  1. Chase, That is a great starter for everyone. You could just copy and paste that answer for anyone who first uses an 800. It is really that simple folks on the settings. Chase or I or Steve could turn on an 800 do what Chase just told you to do and hand it to anyone and say 'go find stuff' and you don't need to adjust it. The learning curve is sound which simply put is a new language. Mitchel
  2. I had to replace my 800 because of a faulty off/on switch. You can, and probably 'should' just turn it on and use it as it came from the factory for the first few trips. Just follow the getting started routine and don't read any of the advanced threads. Many of us have returned to near basic settings after we own them a while anyway. Mitchel
  3. Congratulations Well done. A great coin is good to find. They are my weakness as I hunt few areas that have anything other than clad. You described the area of the find well. It is like finding gold nuggets under the bushes or in other hard to get to spots. Mitchel
  4. I was re-reading my silver cleaning formulas again yesterday and they added a new one on cleaning I had not see before. After you have cleaned this real dirty one with the aluminum foil method of choice let it soak in ketchup! I'm doing that with the watch band I found. Seems to help with some of the color.
  5. I've seen many of their examples now and believe this is a piece made by them. This is my cleaning progress.
  6. We should have known earlier. According to Clay at My Land Matters: Mining is exempt from lockdown Did you know mining activities have been declared an essential industry? Mining is on the US Department of Homeland Security’s Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency's ‘Essential Critical Infrastructure Workforce’ list.
  7. This was next from my research. https://finance.yahoo.com/news/chrome-hearts-lays-off-most-182742911.html
  8. I just figured out it is a watch band with the curve of the metal and the holes for the watch pins. I wonder what watch had gone with this? It is very close to this: I don't see Chrome Hearts on it anywhere but it led me to this: So, I will clean it more and post a picture again. More to be learned.
  9. I have a different theory on why it is there. You showed a picture of a sand pit and a bit of track leading up to it. If in fact it had been a long jump pit the chain flew off of the jumper and they were not able to find it! Athletes love bling. You did a good find. In my experience with some gold jewelry the solid charm and the hozzel sound louder than the chain. As Simon said (Simon Says the game) chains sound scratchy. That has been my experience also with so many surfaces to bounce the signal. The exception for me has been when a chain balls up and it is a very solid number like a ring. Mitchel
  10. May you have more Mays. It is a shame you have to change your normal hunting pattern and find gold as a result. Maybe it is a pattern worth keeping! Mitchel
  11. Yes, better than nothing. Maybe that reduces the 'value' of the content because you can get it on the WBM.
  12. Norm, It's too bad someone can't get that content and host it on another forum untouched. It must have some value. Mitchel
  13. I like what it's worth. I use Beach 1 just about always at 23. We have high mineralization lines sometimes which make me go down slightly but I prefer 23. I will reground balance often because at the top of the slope there is less iron and wetness. What I will do on some beaches is change the speed which lengthens the sound. When I interrogate a target I do it with swings. When I am gridding a productive area I also make sure I don't swing too fast. When digging targets they sometimes get 'lost' but I have to remember that they ARE there and I'll find it still in the hole or it came out previously. Today I was digging in stainless steel scrap which is a bit of a problem. Sometimes you hear the shape and sometimes you hear the metal but stainless is not an iron sound. I got a thick silver braclet today and it was several numbers 28+ which just means to me I have to dig it. I'm also a great proponent of digging bobby pins. Their shape sometimes give a false positive but it can mask a better target or sound like a fringe deep target. I turn up my iron volume but use 50 tone more than any other.
  14. It was a different day and a different beach. The waves had pumped into this beach for a couple of days and it was time to go. I didn't hit the tide quite right but I have other obligations. When I got there someone was on the beach. I thought I'd lost the opportunity but they detected fast down near the water and they were gone by the time I set up to detect the cut. I don't know where they were going but they were gone and I did my thing. I located a penny line and dug a few of them and then I went in both directions for a bit before discovering my first quarters. That was a good sign and I was the only one around. It's a grid beach when objects can be found. Five days ago I had been on this beach and I couldn't even find any of the sailboat salvage items. I just kept working it with the limited 2 hours I had. Near the end I found a Wheat which is like finding hen's teeth on these beaches. I would have stayed a bit longer to finish the cut but about 300 yards in front of me someone had shown up. Normally this would make me very agitated but I just kept on trying to hear the good stuff mixed in with the salvage and then I got a high pitch variable at 28-31 and thought it would be another quarter. Down about 5 inches I dug up what looked like a piece of chain. Then I looked closely and it was jewelry. This is 3.7 ounces of .925 SILVER! I think it is the heaviest piece of silver I've ever found. It is chunky templar stuff. There has to be a couple of links (watch) missing because it is not very long. It's value is in the weight and now determining it is a band. It was a good couple of hours.
  15. Huntington Beach is like Simon's beach right now. The targets just 'happen' to be where they are. There is no real 'run out' as can be and I've seen cuts on this beach that might be 2 feet high. The last time I was out the conditions were similar and a local came out and he couldn't find a 'patch' either. The cross was just an extra. You are right about additional objects. I circled this spot and went slow but it is a pretty light little piece. I couldn't find any more on that energy line. If it was a ring or a bit more weight I would expect more.
  16. I got up early this morning and tried to sneak out to a local beach but I was stopped. My 2.4 year old son came out and I just couldn't leave. Most mornings lately we've just headed to the park to feed the squirrels. He has gotten good at feeding them by hand either a walnut or a peanut. Today the tides were right and we were 'marine layered in' with a light mist so it was time to drive to Huntington Beach. That is about a 40 minute drive in light traffic so off we went. This was my second trip with him to this beach since the lockdown was over. The first time I found just a few coins but less than $1 in change. This time we went past the little playground and on to the beach. I let my son determine the direction. He headed north. It was a great day for him because it was a large, flat beach at low tide and he could run. That he did and I was swinging behind him. We went up into the dry sand and those were my first targets, just a couple of pieces of foil. After 45 minutes I had nothing! We went out on the wet sand and did a little bit of learning of the alphabet. I got a few letters in and we sang 'ABC' before he was off to the south. We were going to go in that direction when he saw a little kid in the distance and off he went back toward 'ABC'. I lagged behind and saw the other little guy was with his parents but about that moment I heard a little signal near the 'ABC' and I dug it. It was my first wet sand signal. Meanwhile my son had found a play buddy. It turned out this little guy was younger but his dad was an older guy like me out with his first and only son. 😀 They both had a good time for 20 minutes or so before the parents had to go. This picture looks back towards the south and the Huntington Beach Pier and back to 'ABC' where I found the target. As I got back near the location I found it I put it down on the sand and took these two pictures. It is just a little cross/crucifix that is 3g and .417/10k. I didn't find any other wet sand targets. Sometimes you have to forget all the knowledge and all the clues and just let someone else lead. It doesn't have to get any better than this. Mitchel
  17. I began reading a story about a mining company that has purchased a project in Victoria. That article is here: https://www.benzinga.com/pressreleases/20/05/n16132404/nubian-signs-binding-letter-of-intent-to-acquire-advanced-gold-project-in-victoria-australia I don't know much about this area so I did a search and found a lot of research already done by someone here: http://www.firstpr.com.au/daylesford/00-daylesford-general/ I hope it gives you some idea of how extensive research can be and why it makes sense to tag along if you can do it. Mitchel
  18. I know a club that has a dredging claim in Nevada! Comstock Gold Prospectors has a claim that is east of Rye Patch. The shore is claimed but their claim is in the water holding area. I think it is shallow but I don't know the specific details. https://cgpgold.org/
  19. Thanks for letting everyone know your choice and for showing your finds. If you post up often here you will be able to look back in a couple of years and see what you have found in the past. You have lots of beaches. Get the goodies before someone else does. Mitchel
  20. When you are new how do you have any idea what an 'untouched ugly' bit is?
  21. I think they are bundling, dealing and moving out old (heavy) inventory before the great tsunami of new detectors coming out. Their price and features will change everything. Once you've seen the pretty new ones it will be pretty hard to put your mind back on the old klunker! (Pun intended.)
