  1. I'm reading mine thru for the second time now. It has some good information in it to remind me of how it all fits together. I wish he would write an Advanced level book for the Legend or any SMF detector in general. I have Andy's book also. It is good also but very basic. Enjoy the rain. Hope you have a nice fire to sit by.
  2. Very nice run there. The ring looks like Boy Scouts of America.
  3. The reply from NASA Tom to my post about True All Metal on a SMF detector was interesting regarding Prospecting audio. If it behaves similar to a Threshold based true All Metal channel it may explain how Sensitivity could be run higher. That is good information to know for Manticore users. I may repost my question here on DP for the more general answer I was hoping for.
  4. Soil texture & moisture play a big part in neat plugs.
  5. The LG35 is a great coil and can be used in a Park setting effectively running Pitch tone, just not in the thick trash. Keep getting out there & posting. Maybe your scoop has a decent warranty.
  6. You have been given very solid advise in all of the previous posts. Dirtfisher also knows what he is talking about. I use a very similar C Disc pattern in 4 kHz Park that works very well. My Tab notch is 29 -34. High coins can down average to 35 if close to Al trash so you have to dig by tone not TID. Lower Sensitivity to mid 20s, Recovery 6 or 7. Use the 6 inch coil if you have it. Get the new LG24 if you can. Scan slow. Screw caps just have to get dug. Large can slaw sounds too big. Lift your coil up to tell on it. 2 tone would be easiest to start with.
  7. 25 years ago I had what was considered a top of the line detector, the Garrett Grand Master Hunter CX II. I still have it & have compared it to what is considered today's best. There is no comparison, especially around any iron. The old hunters got the easy stuff. That is not everything or even maybe the best.
  8. My sentiments exactly. And the finds look like what I normally come home with. I really like the glass & pottery too.
  9. I just finished re reading these Usage Notes that I have now printed out for my Tarsacci notebook. It really reinforces things you know, often from a different perspective so it sticks in your mind better. One thing the Tarsacci does when set up & running well for the site conditions is processing down those iffy signals after a few sweeps. This isn't discussed much but Keith alludes to this behavior in the stated notes. When set up right, the machine will hit on a deep/ iffy target with an initial high chirp, not the more rounded "sonar" tone. If it is small iron/nail/wire just falsing, a few more sweeps over the target will process the chirp out. If it is a solid target the additional sweeps will let the detector identify it as ferrous or non ferrous with the proper tone. The detector needs a good look at the target AND the surrounding soil matrix. 2 or 3 sweeps is usually enough to know what you have under the coil. Don't just zero in on the chirp, take in a foot or so around the hit to get the full picture. In heavy nails modest settings work best & are plenty deep. This is more important if you are in Disc Mode because you don't have the the All Metal channel's ramp up/down like in Mixed Mode. If you are hunting in heavy nails this processing down the signal will save a lot of digging falses. It takes a while to see that you CAN trust the MDT to boil down/process out the immaterial falses AND to see & lock on to non ferrous items in a jumbled mess of iron. Take the time to give the machine a good smooth look at what is under the coil and it will surprise you. This is the part that is "not like a VLF" performance. When you have carefully & repeatedly gone over a good site with your best VLF unmaskers, pulling small good targets out of the nails down to 4 or 5 inches till nothing seems to be left, the Tarsacci can come in & hit the goods that are 5+. For me several surprises stand out to include a brass curtain rod ring 10+ inches down in the heavy nails of a 1900s house site. And that was with pretty modest Sens & TH settings.
  10. I hope they keep making improvements Via periodic updates. I personally would like a second C Disc available & a few other things like a LG 18C & LG 23C Concentric coil. A version of a Long Press Noise Cancel would be great too.
  11. As you increase it, the ground response is reduced. You have the Stability control in Beach mode & the Ground Suppression control for Park, Field & Gold field modes. M3 also works well on the inland modes.
  12. Have you tried to use the new Ground Stability adjustment?
  13. Your finds are very nice but the local countryside is what is so impressive. Very special place. Even nicer that you have a solid friend to share in the adventure. Thanks for posting.
  14. Thanks for the detailed reply. I appreciate hearing from someone that is experienced with similar hot dirt conditions like I have. I have done the same thing using the Tarsacci to find the targets for testing the settings on the Legend. It has really helped to fine tune what works best. Did you do better with the new coil & Dimitar's settings? Was that the New Zealand bad dirt coil Keith Southern has referred to?
  15. Comparative field testing detectors in difficult sites is one of the best ways to learn for sure. Did you ever run the Tarsacci on that site?
  16. Those look nice. To make any second deeper plug it might work well to have the horizontal handle able to slide up the shaft some distance, You could use a keyway or some sort of stop to lock it for rotating the head. Neat tool.
  17. It has been very helpful to re read the Tarsacci Usage Notes linked into this thread. I have them printed out now.🙃
  18. I'm not really sure what you are describing. There is no normal reason the unit should freeze. The Settings button should clear you back to the Detect screen after any attempted adjustments. No normal need to hold the Power button down to restart. Try a proper Factory Reset by going into the User Profile menu then holding the Pin point button until FD appears. This should always been done after any Firmware download install.
  19. Yes, Tone break has nothing to do with the Disc profile(A, G, F or C). My point is that for each Tone # (2, 4, 6, 60 or Pitch) you can have different Tone Breaks, volumes & frequency. This is not talked about much but is a very powerful ability. This is in addition to having 4 User Profiles.
