  1. At fixin to be 61, you give me good hope. I’m not worried about my old Jeep.
  2. The 8” Concentric separates almost as well as the smaller DDs. The value of the Concentric is that it really calms the iron down and allows you to run smoother with lower disc and/ or higher gain. I have always thought the DeepTechs were a very good value for the money.
  3. DeepTech machines don’t get a lot of attention unfortunately. The only USA dealer that l am aware of is Richard(great guy) at Backwoods Detectors. Just today, l saw that DeepTech posted on Finds that they were sponsoring a Tesoro Memorial Hunt in Belgium. This struck me as a very smart idea to capitalize on the large following of Tesoro users to introduce them to DeepTech analog detectors. I hope it is a success and we have a similar event here in the USA. Steve H had said if there was enough interest in DeepTech he would consider adding a sub forum for them. I would like to see that too. l have the Vista X and all the coils for it. It is an excellent machine. You can use it as a general purpose detector but it’s strong suite is running in iron and/ or mineralized ground. That is why l got it & what l use it for. It is easy to run if you have an understanding of basic VLF operation. Unfortunately, many today only know turn on &. go and look at the screen. I really think learning the Vista X has helped me become a better detectorist overall. It is a fun unit to run and it will pull keepers every other detector misses out of worst ground you can find. It is also very EMI resistant. They have a good USA service center up in Maine.
  4. I certainly agree with your thoughts on the LG30. It and the LG24 are a big step in making the Legend an extremely well rounded outfit. If Nokta will introduce a couple of Concentric coils(LG18C&LG23C) I would call it near perfect. (and maybe add a second C Disc slot,,,, and a true motion AllMetal mode,,, and 🤔😉)
  5. We are a passionate bunch for sure. Just look at how much we can post on detecting shovels.🧐. Thanks again Jeff.
  6. That says a lot for Nokta’s success and future commitment. Congratulations in advance.
  7. Can you guys who have responded give a little more insight on how Prospecting audio behaves? I am still trying to understand NASA Tom’ s description of it being akin to motion all Metal mode on older detectors. Is it like Pitch or VCO?
  8. You might check with a farm tractor/implement repair shop. They probably have some worn discs in their scrap pile.
  9. Jeff, Thank you for the test comparison . There is a lot of good info in you observations. My East Texas iron ore based red dirt is not as bad as your soil. It is normally 3-4 bars on the Legend’s meter depending on moisture. I use M3 often. In Park it is noticeably better dealing with Al trash than M1 or M2. Your multiple testing since getting your Legend bears this out. What l have also noticed is that M3 is often the best choice in wet ground as Nokta stated due to it’s soil moisture subtraction. Where M3 seems to fail for me is depth in my higher mineral red dirt. M1 is noticeably deeper. I wonder if the soil moisture subtraction is the difference? Take away the mineralization and M3 is a little deeper. It’s not the weighting, it’s the mineralization. As Steve H reminds us, soil is what matters more often than not. Our own testing in our own dirt is the best gage but l learn from others too. Your well rounded efforts are appreciated.
  10. His reply required some thought on my part. After re reading it a couple of times, l think that True All Metal mode, as on the T2/F75/AT Max etc isn’t offered on these latest SMF introductions but something that approximates it is. The practical use for this capability hasn’t really shown itself yet. Evidently there are a few lesser known SMF detectors that do have a true AM mode like the latest Rutus & Atrex. Seems like a practical thing to have on a high end detector to me.
  11. A few weeks ago l posed a question on Dankowski’s forum about true All Metal mode on modern SMF detectors. In answering, NASA Tom replied that the Manticore, while in Prospecting audio Theme, was close to true All Metal, not just a different audio choice. I found this to be quite intriguing. He also stated that the Equinox 900 dp audio is a quasi All Metal with the Iron tone processed but the non ferrous tone a raw AM feed. There is bound to be a practical application for these capabilities that new users have not hit on yet. Like others here, I keep a good true All Metal detector for “ special “ use in spite of its other limitations. I sure wish true AM motion mode was more common on SMF detectors, especially my Legend.
  12. This is a great how to example that shows the value of real site testing to learn for yourself how to best set up & run on your own ground. All the written info & secondhand experience available to us nowadays is a valuable jump start, but until you get out there & test for yourself, it doesn’t become real & applicable. I have done the same type of setup using the Tarsacci as the lead. It is surprising to see what you just thought you knew & other things you hadn’t even thought of. Thanks for the post.
  13. What Sensitivity levels have you been trying to run? What GB numbers are you getting in that soil?
  14. The Root Slayer line is what l have used the last 5 years. They are great. Most all of my sites are full of roots & the notch works extremely well. I can’t imagine how you could break one of these without trying. Thanks to you guys, l just went to their site and ordered 2 more. A spade for sandy ground & a floral model for manicured lawns.😉
  15. I assume you are thinking about your fresh water lake sites. I have a permission that is an old swimming park. In wet weather season the ground is a layer of white water sand under the sod with a iron ore clay base at 12-14 inches where the coins mostly rest. I have dug a lot of corroded Nickels & Cents there at 12 inches with a good signal response.
  16. Yep, different tools for different application. Fields or manicured lawns. Roots or rocks or sand.
  17. This little book is one of the most well written detecting guides that I have read. Still very pertinent today. I am going to print it out & put a copy in my reference library. Thanks for linking it.
  18. What type of ground conditions & what kind of targets. What type of site?
  19. That sure is a beautiful old homesite with the Daffodils blooming & paired Cedar trees. It always makes me smile to see flowers planted long ago by people long gone still bringing joy to what was left behind. It kind of puts things in perspective.
  20. Some assurance that the next generation of MDT will have improved this & better that & new whatever. Convey to Dimitar that there is a core group of users that appreciate his work in pushing the boundaries of detector performance in difficult ground and hope for Tarsacci's success.
  21. I slow down in busy ground so I can hear each target instead of a continuous din.
  22. To me, a lot of that big iron is worth digging on an old site, especially if you are already halfway there.
