  1. The Z Link receiver unit has it's own volume control also. I set it to get the right Pinpointer volume and then adjust the headphone volume. I keep the main detector volume set close to maximum.
  2. I use the 1/4" Z Link transmitter & receiver set up with wired Killer B headphones on my Vista X. Also the Z Link Garrett AT Pinpointer. I could use the MS 3 headphones but the Higher ohm Killer Bs sound better on that detector. If you need 1/4 to 1/8 you can get a short adapter.
  3. The Garrett Z Link system is a bit more money but it is excellent.
  4. I would just like to have something in print. A thread on Advanced NM operation on this forum that NM actively participated in would be great.
  5. It would be nice to understand some of the underlying function. I know it is kind of getting into the weeds and many don't care to. I would like to see NM give more in depth operational discussion. A supplemental guide beyond the basics in the owner's manual. The detectors are so capable. I want to know how to run it at it's best. Perhaps Dilek will see this and chime in.
  6. On the Anfibio Multi (and I think Kruzer & others) there is a definite step in sensitivity between 39&40 Gain and again between 69&70 Gain. Is this a change in the Internal Threshold? In a way this would be the inverse of the way the F75 adjusts sensitivity according to Mike Hillis. Regardless, it is a very good set up in difficult sites. Most NM users know about the difference in response speed between 89 & 90 Gain on 3DI. This is different. I had read about these steps in a forum post that quoted Alper of NM. I can't seem to find that post now that I want to re read it.
  7. I find it intriguing that it supposedly can use the nail & Iron contamination of a site to differentiate the non ferrous. It seems to be able to see the contrast between the two and use that to advantage.
  8. A probe is handy for sure. They are not hard to make either. I have two that stay in the Scrambler with the digging tool arsenal. Get on an old house site and find the privies & dump sites. It is a easy & positive way to confirm what my CX II Bloodhound 2 box sounds off on.
  9. There should be more bottles there. If you make a ground probe you can feel out spots where there might be a concentration. Maybe nothing real old but still interesting & fun.
  10. Being in a fire might give it that lump shape and change it's property to corrosion.
  11. A place on the river like that will have a little of everything from years of use, including some nice surprises . One you will not like is quicksand. Be mindful of soft ground underfoot. I know from experience. Check for targets a bit down stream also.
  12. In addition to the Iron, how mineralized is that soil you are in?
  13. Not a bad day at all. It will be interesting to see if on old glass or pottery shards show up in those fields after a good rain, Arrowheads too.
  14. I purchased the F5 used with the stock 10" elliptical concentric coil. I would like to get a 10" elliptical DD to go with it and also the 5" round DD. Used would be fine. I just question a used coil off a First Texas 19 kHz unit. I know I can purchase new coils from Teknetics for the Greek series or from Nel.
  15. As far as compatibility between the F19/G2 @ 19kHz and the Greek Tek series @7.69kHz that seems a big jump to be optimal. What I am trying to figure out is what 10" DD & 5"DD will work best on my new to me F5 @ 7.69kHz.
  16. Try hunting the path the bulldozer followed pushing to the ravine. Small items probably dropped out along the way.
  17. Do as much research as you can on that Horse Race track to unlock that site .If you can find the hot spots thy should be very good producers, Aerial photos may help along with existing or past roadways. Try to figure out how it was laid out; entries & exits, grand stand, parking & concession areas. Don't overlook the less public areas. There was lots of non respectable activity going on also. Official bets were paid in hard money and it got spent often at the same site. I have been hunting half of a never detected half mile oval track from the late 1880's to mid 1920's for the past two years. Lots of quiet ground with small to mid size areas of concentrated targets. Race tracks were all out roaring spots in their day. Mine even has an out of the way corner where the working girls resided. Some very interesting finds to be made.
  18. I purchased the new Viper coil for my AT Max and have run it thru my Test garden. I think it will do just what I had hoped; a little deeper than the excellent 5x8 with near matching separation coupled with the ground coverage of the stock 8.5X11. Very stable & sensitive.
  19. Thanks for the replies. I have read the info that Mike Hillis has posted and that let me know what to expect. He is very knowledgeable. So far it is what I had hoped and I really think it will fill a spot for me in addition to being a learning tool for setting up any detector for more challenging conditions. I hope to be able to get another coil or two in DD. It is my first Fisher unit.
  20. I got lucky at the recent East Texas Treasure Show and found a nice used Fisher F5. I specifically wanted to try this detector because of the separate Gain & Threshold controls along with Target ID and the running Ground Phase and Mineralization scale. I hope it may prove a less powerful but versatile companion to the Vista X at a lower kHz frequency. I am surprised that I can not seem to pull anything up from the past in this forum on it. Any comments from those who have used a F5 would be appreciated.
  21. For anyone close enough, the annual East Texas Treasure Show is being held this weekend in Canton, Texas. More info @ tamdc.org. I have attended the last 2 and they are a good show. I hope to pick up a couple of items this year and spend time visiting with some interesting people.
  22. Thanks jasong for you above post. That helps explain why some combinations of detector/headphones sound better than others.
  23. To a large degree I think best headphone choice is relative to the individual. I have wired backup headphones for both my AT Max and Anfibio Multi. The audio of the AT Max has no Bass tone at all and sounds very harsh with My 150 ohm Killer B's. The Garrett MS-2 sounds very nice with plenty of nuance for the tones, basically just like the supplied MS-3 wireless headphones. The Anfibio sounds good with either the lower ohm MS-2 or the high ohm Killer B's. It sounds best with the Factory Blue wireless which I wish had it's own volume control. The Vista X has noticeably better tone quality with the high ohm Killer B's. It sounds flat with the Garrett headphones. Like so many things, each makes up their own kit to suit themselves. No one size fits all best.
