  1. I'll keep an eye on Aptx-LL earbuds and headphones, and I'll post again here. It will show up in unread posts every time. It only lasted 2 or 3 days.
  2. Haha Joe, it's feed/seed corn or for ethanol. Unless you get it early, it's kinda tough. ? The bird is a mockingbird, they have taken over. Built nests in my porch ferns, drove the Bluebirds and crows out, threaten everything that comes near em. They attack too. ? They do get rid of flying insects tho. It did look cool when I took the pic this morning. There are Eagles here, but I'd be nervous if I had the dog with me. If you're heading up this way feel free to pm. ? ??
  3. I'd get me a nice wide beam boat and motor for river hunting. Maybe one with a platform so I can just sit there and detect and scoop from the boat. ? I think 8 grand would do it. ? No gold here.
  4. Those gloves are nice. Would be a good air layer too. Amazon has a ton of stuff for reasonable prices, my ballistic nylon came from there, used it for my water sifter: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B06Y3QK95Y Got some left. Maybe I should make my own bag. ?
  5. Took me 2 seconds to find this cloth on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Durable-200gsm-Kevlar-Density-100x30cm/dp/B07CV6GQL1 It's Aramid. Tough stuff in its own right. Another quick search found these: https://www.amazon.com/Tac9er-Tactical-Gloves-Large/dp/B079FC8BDF come to think of it, the cloth I have is ballistic nylon OD. Still really tough. HTH
  6. Summer in the USA, the fields are planted, the ground is turning to concrete, the rivers and beaches are either off limits or full of people and boats. Some boats are on the beach too. ? Heck you have to mow or bush hog your own spots to detect! I've been refining the amount of stuff I carry, trying to make it as light and simple as possible. For the Summer I have it down to this: Calces365 bag with the mesh on the keeper pocket and the trash pocket, it drains out the sand/water from your finds. On the belt is the Carrot, and a Doc's deep bag for my composite trowel, a brass wire brush, and a Kong rubber Frisbee for dogs that rolls up for putting the dirt in. Makes it easy to clean up, and isn't too big. When rolled in the bag the trowel fits right in. One knee pad, and the best warm weather nitrile gloves I could find, they are 5 bucks at Lowes. I can use my cell phone while wearing them, sorta. They will save you from cuts and poison ivy. The only other thing I might add to this rig is a 9mm MOLLE mag pouch with a spray bottle for the silvers but I don't find so many of them. ? If Doc ever reads this, the trowel bag could use some mesh on the bottom to drain water and sand, may modify it soon but I'm not good at sewing. Got some spare OD Kevlar though... ? Edit: Please don't think that I'm pushing minimalism in any way. That's just my preference, the whole point of this thread is to show what ya carry, and tell why in some cases so others can get ideas for possible substitutions. The bigger the better. Lots of people browse this forum for ideas. Gear is a big part of what we do. I've seen some pretty big rigs, and totally understand them. Remember I just walk out my front door to detect and use a modified off road golf cart! ? I can bring a lot of stuff if I want.
  7. Welcome Lesgold, with that artillery in your possession and a few good spots the future should be shiny. You have a lot of "mates" here who appear to be heavy hitters. This site focusses on on the details, it has made me much better than I should be. ?
  8. Looking forward to it. They did turn the fields this year, but right now there's a bit of a corn problem. ? The 10x5 will be almost a requirement in the fall! New farm permission and possibly an old farmhouse down the road in the back pocket for then. Today we celebrate our Independence, happy 4th to everyone. ?? I'm off to the beach very soon, hoping to bring back the gold.
  9. Were it that I could. ? I've dug some but they are much more rare than relics. I think this area was not very wealthy, even now people are frugal to the extreme in this area. It's not that people don't have money, they just don't lose it! ? The other possibility of course is it has been hit hard for the easy targets. The largest denomination I've ever found was a Mercury dime not counting clad, and even that is rare. The only real stunner ever found in my presence was when Chase was here, he dug a Standing Liberty quarter. Most of my coin finds have been pistareens and half Reales, along with wheats and IHPs. I like relics, there are a lot of interesting things in the ground.
  10. Perfect day for a trip out back to the hill over the river about 200 yards behind my house. It's unusual to have a day in July that the temperature doesn't get over 80 in Virginia, but today was just that. Strong north breeze. The river was full of boaters and jet skis, so that was out. I swear the Coiltek 10x5 is awesome, I've been over this area before. Lots of junk today, some really big metal I didn't photograph, but this was what remained, the ratio of junk to finds was kinda high. None of this was masking anything however. Nice old hatchet head, is there a market for these? So far I've dug 3 axe heads and this one from this hill. Of course the obligatory mason jar lids. Finds were kinda cool, worth a post anyway: First thing I dug was the pendant, it's cast metal of some kind but not precious, The more I cleaned it the more black it got. It was a 22. .32 ACP live round again, the second I've dug here. Maybe I'll find the pistol ? Brass buckle of some kind, stamped, late 1800s to mid 1900s. Maybe a purse decoration/clasp or something. Brass cap, not sure what for, and a small adjustment wheel I found with some watch parts. Think I found some of the watch a while back. One piece said "made in USA". The most interesting to me was the thimble, it says "Coolidge And Dawes". It was a political campaign thimble given out in 1924. It was a 20/21 so I think it's copper with plating. It was right near the edge of the cliff. This is what it looked like new. The are a lot of nails and iron bits at this site, as well as it being a dump, there was a house here long ago. The 10x5 seems to really be able to sniff out the small stuff. Its ability to "sort" in high trash is an asset.
  11. Great find! They get really fancy, some have a Knight's head on top. Templars... ? Any other stuff aside from the silver Rosie or all clad? That's a heckuva place you have there. 4th of July will keep me out of the river, too many boats.
  12. Get ready for a shock... ? Thought I'd pretty much killed a small spot and dug all kinds of stuff. I wish you the best luck!
  13. I've only ever found 2 mercs and a 1857 Trime. Oldest was 1917, and it has a big black stain on it. Found it with the Trime. The other is a 1943. Put the '17 on a snake chain with a bezel, I often wear it for good luck. Hope I find a Barber. They're some pretty coins. Congrats. ?
  14. Awww, I was just gonna use your name in vain! ? The plus + is there and the tones are on center. Learned my lesson early on. ? Ordered a second pair today as a backup.
  15. Just in case you missed this $10 deal, you can often get these for $25. Today they are $25 I think for everyone. Usually $50. https://www.amazon.com/Paww-DualSound-Resistant-Sweatproof-Ear/dp/B07KVFNWM3
  16. ? Glad for you. You're not gonna want to take it off. Hope everyone gets one soon.
  17. American clad quarter is about the only US coin about that size in mm, 24.26. Could be a British half cent. They were around 25mm. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halfpenny_(British_pre-decimal_coin)
  18. I got it too, thankfully already got one. They're out. ?
  19. Thanks for the ID! The backstory of what I find is often as fun as the finds. I hope this sort of stuff is interesting here.
  20. Finally got around to investigating this odd piece of iron I dug a couple days ago. At first I thought it was a leaf spring, then "Lensed" it, and some sword crossguards came up. Couldn't find an iron one, and this one has a slight curve in its length as well as its width. This morning I took a wire brush to it, and lettering appeared: It reads "iron age". Looked that up, and found this: In the early 1900s there was a company that made farm and garden tools called Iron Age. This must be a part of one of these tools/machines. Usually I don't investigate iron I dig, but I'm glad I did this time. ?
  21. Had one of those days myself in the river. Unless I go deeper there isn't much going on. Tried beach 1 underwater today, the 10x5 sees things a bit differently.
  22. Very cool concept. Wish the farmers here would drag for nails ? Are you going to post finds from this trip? Sorry to read that it was too hot to hit the mining camps.
  23. Nice treasure, FlyDog. ? What was the bracelet ID?
  24. Heh, an ominous precursor of the current state of confusion, or does it make sense? An "unsexed" ID means the animal was spayed or neutered, thus making it possible for it to serve wine at orgies. It also saves ya 5 bucks. ?
