  1. Sweet! Always great to get out in the fresh air...great hunt!
  2. i split my time between local beaches and parks. If beach detecting is your gig. I'd lean towards a SMF (simultaneous multi-frequency) metal detector. You mentioned the Deus II, but there's also the Minelab machines (Equinox, Vanquish & Manticore) and the Nokta Makro line. Minelab, Deus and Nokta Makro dominate the market for SMF machines, but are not the only ones. Single frequency detectors can be noisy and inconsistent on the wet sand, but some (like my Tarsacci) will work. Do your homework. The next most important tool would be your scoop. Don't skimp here. Get a strong (but lightweight) scoop. Xtreme, and T-Rex are some of the most mentioned names, but there are more. Carbon fiber shafts lighten the load-if you can afford it. As far as pin pointers are concerned, I don't use 'em at the beach (I just move the sand around with my foot until I isolate the target), but I know some that do. Finally, you should buy a finds pouch. I use a waist belt pouch that is big enough for trash and treasure. Good luck!
  3. Metal detecting isn't for everyone. Before you go out and spend a bunch of money, why don't you rent or borrow one from a friend and give it a try for a few days? I've known people who give up after just a few weeks because they hadn't hit the mother lode, while others have been at it for years and are happy pulling a few bucks out of the ground. It takes, patience, persistence, a strong back and a little bit of luck. Whatever you decide, good luck!
  4. Wow, what great beach erosion!
  5. Welcome from California! My mother-in-law lives in Ormond Beach...would LOVE to hunt Daytona!
  6. Sweet! Nice to see someone out there finding gold at the beach!
  7. Impressive...the most I've ever owned at one time was five. Started to get the evil eye from the wife. Now I'm down to a manageable three😆
  8. Nice hunt...anytime you can get out and swing your coil is a good day!
  9. Congrats! I'm going on three years and still haven't found one...a lot of costume jewelry though!
  10. On the heels of Tom's comments, I hunted Seabright Beach which is just across the way from the main Boardwalk Beach. I arrived a few hours before low tide and could clearly see that the King Tides pushed the surf all the way to the steps that lead to the street (about 200 feet). There was a lot of debris left from the storm surge, but surprisingly, there wasn't much in the way of cuts or scallops. At that point, I might have driven to another beach, but traffic was so bad driving up to Seabright, I decided to give it a shot. There were a lot of targets, but mostly recent clad. I did find some costume jewelry-a ring that I thought might have been gold, but there weren't any markings inside. I'm going to try another beach further south tomorrow and give it a shot. In the meantime, here is a picture of what I found.
  11. Does anyone know if the Simplex headphones can be used interchangeably with the Legend? I bought a Simplex a couple of years ago and am thinking about picking up the basic Legend detector without the headphones if they are compatible. Could save some $
  12. I have used gel knee pads that I bought off of Amazon (I think the brand is NoCry). Cost me about $25. I only use one for my left knee and it has served me well for over 3 years. Definitely keeps the knee protected and the gel padding is surprisingly comfortable and can definitely extend your hunting time! Whatever brand you decide on, I highly recommend you get one!
  13. I love Rehoboth! Dewey Beach is pretty cool too! My Tarsacci, once I got it dialed in, is an absolute beast at the beach! It's so quiet. I sometimes need to pass my coil over my scoop to make sure its still working! Sounds like its treating you well too!

Your post seems a bit contradictory. I would not describe any of the three machines you mentioned as "less complicated". All three of these, should you decide to purchase one, will take quite a bit of time to learn. If one of your goals is to grow into the machine, and you're willing to be patient, you'd be happy with any of them-they are all great, but if you're looking for something simple to start off with, you'd probably be happier with something that you can just turn on and go. I'm sure many on this forum could advise you on that. Whatever you decide, happy hunting and good luck!
  15. Great hunt(s)! The beaches in my area are pretty well sanded in, but I'm itching to get out!
  16. Congrats on retirement! I still have a few more years to go, but I'm looking forward to spending more time out swinging my MD'er!
  17. Your hunts look like mine. I'm also a Cali guy. I guess the only prescription is patience! Keep on hunting!
