  1. I really enjoyed reading this. It inspires me to plan a trip there with my kids.
  2. Nice nugget! I always move on and then go to back and try a different approach even when you think you have the last nugget from a patch. You never know when the moisture content or emi changes just slightly enough for you to hear another one. Low and slow, different walk pattern, and confidence.
  3. What a great nugget! Congrats on your find.
  4. Funny chap! I can just imagine him finding a multi ouncer. Actually, I bet he acts like that every time he finds a nugget! That was entertaining for sure.
  5. This is a pretty nice piece of property. http://www.landwatch.com/Sierra-County-California-House-for-sale/pid/2401700 Gold is nearby and on property.
  6. I found big one at around 15" during the ICMJ hands on. Thought for sure it would be a nugget, but no love just another musket ball. It was just a whisper and when about a foot deep I started breaking up bedrock and got it out of the hole the magnet didn't pick it up, well...the next one will be yellow. I did find a tool that makes musket balls several years ago. It's likes a pair of pliers, but in reverse. Squeeze it and pour the lead into it and then open it to get the ball out.
  7. That's why I chose to hf this specimen. It did not look good on the outside, but the continuity tester told me it was all connected and the specific gravity test confirmed how much gold was in it. That was the topic of my article in ICMJ.
  8. This is what it looks like after the hf treatment. Sorry LipCa, I couldn't find the after pictures this morning.
  9. I am in Northern California and had a similar specimen hf treated. It was on the cover of ICMJ several years ago (along with an article). I took it to a guy that owns a chemical store and he put the specimen in a clear container with hf and I took it home. He put the container inside another container to make it safer to transport and store. Although he said he would keep it at his shop and I could stop in anytime to check on it, it just seemed safer staying with me (it had just under 4 ounces of gold in it). I kept it in a really safe place (away from pets, kids, and wife) at home and even though the container was leak proof, I wore rubber chemical gloves every time I touched the container. It took couple weeks to eat all the quartz. When the quartz was all gone, I took it back to the guy and he poured off the acid and neutralized the gold with another solution. I offered him a few nuggets in return and he would not accept anything. He said he enjoyed seeing the rock turn into something nice.
  10. Will do Chris. Looking forward to seeing you and planning some prospecting trips.
  11. See you Sunday Chris. Maybe I will try and get out to the hands on event Monday if there is space still available.
  12. "Only" found 6.3 dwt! That's a great day for anybody! Nice finds!
  13. Chris, Any idea if there is any opening for the "hands on" for Friday at Gleason and will you be at that part of that event? If your schedule allows it, we can hit up my claim for a few hours (or more) the week prior to or after the show. Wes may want to join in also, but have not talked to him in quite some time. Matt
  14. The was probably no manzanita there at the time the square nails were left.
  15. If the price comes down to a reasonable number, I will buy one and my son will learn the ways of a gpx. Now we just have to find time to get out and prospect!
  16. I have the "hotfoot" for the gmt. Have only used it once or twice. Maybe I will give it a go if I ever get time to go out again.
  17. When I got bad like that the doctor put me on prednizone (sp?)
  18. That sucks, but I have "been there done that" many times and been rewarded with foil. I have also been rewarded with a big gold nugget, Keep on digging.
  19. Dang Steve, I was going to guess that you were on North Lake Blvd East of Fabian Way just past the 7-eleven to take that picture. My in-laws have a house on the lake just below your picture spot. Not to mention the street was named after my Grandfather. I have spent a lot of time there! You can see Cal Neva Casino across the bay.
  20. I found 1 nugget this year for a half gram, but only hunted for a total of 2 hours in 1 trip out. I am planning to get out more in 2016, but that was my plan for 2015...
