  1. It would be interesting to hear the details of the find. I "assumed" that this specimen was found in a trash infested area where the discrimination of iron cancelling could be put to use. I used to hunt an area with large specimen gold, but the discrimination on my "half decent detectors" did not cancel out the signal from iron like these new detectors can do. Some really good patches couldn't be hunted because there was just too much iron to deal with. It would have taken months to clear out a small area. My eq800 arrived yesterday so I have not had a chance to use it yet, but the Gold Monster can hear good targets among the bad while in discrimination mode. We have found quite a few pieces of gold using this iron canceling discrimination. My White's GMT could not do that and it's considered a half decent detector. My GPX5000 wouldn't be able to be used in some highly trashy areas at all because of the amount of targets would just overload the machine on every swing but there was gold there. It is neat that this new detector did find a nice large specimen. My comment was directed towards the assumption it was found among iron trash using discrimination. Next time, I won't assume...
  2. I would think that the Gold Monster using discrimination could have found that specimen also.
  3. Great idea! Let's make it happen in the next couple weeks. I have been over this area with the gmt and the white's small coil and the hotfoot coil many times. A gold bug 2 has been over it many times. I am amazed with the tiny pieces we are finding with the goldmonster.
  4. Wes, The Gold Monster with the 5" coil is amazing on tiny gold. We found 3 pieces yesterday. Two that are so small that they won't even register on my scale. Matt
  5. Mine arrived today. This is great and will really help me in the field. Thank you. I really appreciate it!
  6. Get a 600 for your trip and then sell it when you get your 800. At least you will be able to have a detector for the trip. PM me and I can give you a tip on how to get a decent price on one.
  7. Who knows how many Cabelas received, but it doesn't sound like it was a lot and they probably don't do pre-orders like the specialty dealers. They received their allotment and listed them for sale on the website. The other dealers has pre-paid orders to fill.
  8. I haven't been out detecting in over a year and probably twice in the past three years. Last time out was with a new to me SDC2300 with my 9 year old. He thought it was too heavy so I got him a Gold Monster. Now he is 10 years old and we finally got out today for a couple hours between soccer and basketball games. Being an avid prospector and mainly an electronic prospector for many many years, I dropped all prospecting to spend time with my kids. It almost feels like I don't remember how to do it anymore? But like riding a bike, it all came back as soon as we arrived at our hunting grounds. What settings to use? Having only read Steve H's thread on the Gold Monster I figured we were good to go. I was right. Six targets and four of them yellow in a two hour hunt. Nothing big, but that doesn't matter. We had a great time. First target with the new detector was gold! Nice way to break it in. We hunted in discrimination mode and figured out this machine pretty quick. Targets that repeat back and forth were the answer. The size of the target versus the signal response are amazing. I trained Slater for the first two targets on how to recover targets and now I feel we can go out and he can do this on his own. Digging all targets is always the way to go, but to go out and use a machine that only sounds off on non-ferrous targets was great for a 10 year old. What a great, easy detector! And it finds tiny gold! We took a bunch of pictures but I am only going to post the picture of the little gold nuggets on the coil when we got home. No smiling face, but I can assure you he had a BIG smile! I think my smile was bigger though...
  9. Nice looking piece with the pure white quartz.
  10. I don't recall anything in the video about the use of mercury or the potato being used for the removal of mercury. You are correct that potato have been used for retort, but I think this was a video for melting gold into an ingot. Probable still good advise to do this outdoors.
  11. No "off topic forum" please. This site is about prospecting and nothing else.
