I'm not Steve,  but my personal opinion is because the mode switches allow you to use them with any headphone wiring configuration in any of the regular production headphones.  Features: stereo L/R volume controls,  locking mode switches,  high quality coiled cord,  very comfortable leather earmuff that significantly reduce background noise.   I have used the CTX version with Whites V3i, XLT; Fisher F70,  F75; EQ 600/800 & multiple Tesoro,
