Joe D.
Wowzers!! I agree with Mike H.! It almost looks to be hand shaped! But the close ups of the texture are puzzling, as if it was beaten into shape between something to get that texture! Need some expert gold geologists to take a wack at it! If that is a natural, never before seen shape, collector's will pay a premium, i'm sure!!??? 1
Jonathan Porter
That is an amazing piece of gold, I’ve seen similar looking stuff here in Australia from Georgetown up in North Queensland, but nothing as impressive as that, not by a long shot!!! One of a kind for sure and fantastic we got to share the experience thanks to having the camera rolling. I was amazed how bright and clean it came up just with a bit of water splashed around. Though one is so folded that if I unfolded it it would triple in apparent size. Not a doubt in my mind it's naturally occurring gold, which has far more range in appearance than most people realize. In this case what we are looking at is commonly referred to as ribbon gold. https://thegoldmuseum.com/index.php?main_page=page&id=3 https://www.pinterest.com/goldnuggetsales/rare-gold-nuggets-specimens/ Google Images 8

Glenn in CO
1 hour ago, Mike_Hillis said: Very nice. It has the pre-fabricated look to it, as if it was hand fashion into some banded item and then lost and the elements has their way with it. Could be a historical find. Definitely a natural find, what is really unique is the thickness of the specimen which I have not seen in a ribbon type of gold specimens. The largest I've found wasn't even close to that size and thickness was very thin.
Popular Post matt
What a fantastic find! Congrats to the finder. I might have missed the weight of it? Brings back memories of my find. Not quite as big I don't think, but still over an ounce (just under 2 ounces actually!) of folded up leaf gold. I found several ounces of smaller pieces over the years. This find was actually on the cover of the ICMJ around 10 years ago (July 2011 issue). It was very deep as well. As soon as I hit a layer of undisturbed cobble, I figured I was onto a nugget. I'm pretty sure it was around 20" deep. The overload of the coil had me thinking it was a multi pounder as many had been found in the area. Found with a GPX5000 and (If I remember correctly) Nuggetfinder 9x13 coil.

AussieMatt
I've seen examples of similar leaf or ribbon gold from North Queensland but nothing that size. There are also smaller bits found around Central NSW. One piece I seen found looked like jewellery with natural chevrons on it. At the time it was found I'd never seen anything like it before. The areas where these have been found in NSW seem to be leads that have been subject to movement, i.e. uplift, that presses the gold out under pressure. I've found a couple of specimens in one particular area where the gold was wrapped around quartz rather than in quartz also I believe formed by pressure from the elements? p.s. very nice piece ? Below you can see the gold "wrapped" around smooth quartz. Another piece I found is a better example but I've now sold it so probably shouldn't post photo's of it now. There's also an example of a partially pressed out piece found within inches of the specimen. We've also found pressed flat & folded bits around the same area but I don't have any photo's on my phone.
