No can`t recall that DS, my first Garret was an A2B, unfortunately I buggerised around with a RB7 & 10 for years when I should have gone with Garret, got gold but that was because it was laying around like mushrooms. Luck of the draw in those days, the Garetts were like hens teeth, had to order way ahead.

How can an old man hold a 70 pound nugget in 1 hand? Heck, I can barely lift a 50-60 pound 5 gallon bucket of gravel with 2 hands?

Maybe its a replica made of foam? I heard it was sold to a Las Vegas casino for a million dollars but only a replica was put out on display for security reasons...the stuff that dreams are made of for sure...at least he didn't clean it with a hatchet like them dudes in Africa...here are 5 photos..looks like an old Garrett Master Hunter ADS TR detector...

I got a mate who was there that day when Kevin found it, Also his nephew is a member on prospecting Australia,

Kevin is gone now bless him, but finding that nugget must of been a monumental day in his life, and it is still the biggest nugget ever found with a detector.

Cool, does your buddy have an original photo perhaps? I don't think we had digital cameras or cell phones back then?

yeah I got a copy of it on my PC, with my mate and a guy he went detecting with and Kevin and the Nugget, It was only 12 inches deep in the ground.

There were replicas made that were some type of light metallic alloy and coated gold paint. I bought one for $270 from a detector shop around 87-88. They weren't too heavy. They were really well done with original looking pock-marks ect.
For some reason they stopped being made, maybe due to an infringement somewhere.

You still see them every now and then. Most are a slightly smaller version.  
My girlfriend stole mine off me when we split up, she probably thought it was real. Come to think of it, she thought New Zealand was joined to Australia by a land bridge so I can't blame her.

To get my fix when ever i pass through Vagas i will stop in the golden nugget and look at the Hand then i'm good to go out detecting in the desert wilds of the southwest

The Nugget is/was on display at the Nugget casino in Las Vegas. Its very well protected behind very thick plexiglass. My first visit to vegas GPAA show in 2008, I went to visit it, man what a chunk of gold.
