  3. I bought a equinox 700. I haven't used it yet. Felix.
  4. Pretty much solely based on the discussions here I now ordered a Rutus Versa and their headphones, as a first detector. I do like the fact that they're manufactured in EU also, but availability is really bad in general, even here. They are not making it easier for themselves, compared to other brands. Been through the entire distributor list and many of them don't even have Versas or don't carry the headphones, not to mention both of the coils. Several web links were broken, most of the existing shops were in a local language only, with very limited shipping destinations and paying options. If not for you guys I wouldn't even have been close to considering Rutus. Ordered from the German distributor, they clearly had only 1 (one) in stock, as they're now out-of-stock. To be fair, it shipped the first weekday after ordering and is now back in stock. Also good website, shipping all over Europe and plenty of payment options. I wish they had the smaller coil listed also.
  5. This is a list of top 10 countries that hold gold. Top 10 Gold Holding Countries How many Olympic swimming pools is this? haha
  6. Still not 100% sure about the 10x5 coil on the Nox,before i purchased this coil i mainly used the 6'' coil especially on trashy roman/saxon sites and it does work exceptionally well but its the ground coverage that lets the 6'' coil down. Must admit although i like the Nox its the coils that i dont think are the best,a 8'' or 9'' option like the Manticore would be nice.
  7. Forum loads good,.......but sometime slow when loading page and very slow when clicking on " next unread post "
  8. Still way too slow for me but like I said am getting a specialist in to look at the system, so please hang in there for a bit longer.
  9. Still getting one specific error reporting but it is very specific to Invision and I have a support ticket open with them to check it out. So not 100% yet but getting there, fingers crossed.
  10. I was wondering why these past couple of months the site was loading / moving like a three legged horse. It feels quite snappy now. Thanks for the hard work you put into this site Steve.....glad is was down but not out !
  11. Steve.......you should have checked the flux capacitor. Regards, Doc

  13. The Garrett Storm is a new metal detector from Garrett, set to be introduced in 2024. Speculation is rampant on what features this new detector will have but there has been no official information from Garrett in that regard other than to say that this a totally new series from Garrett, employing technology previously unused by the company. Garrett has focused on a marketing campaign using the term "A Storm Is Coming" to build anticipation for the new model release. Garrett also registered the website domain a-storm-is-coming.com (link below) to provide information on the new detector when it becomes available. An introduction is scheduled for June 18 for those that signup in advance. Actual detector availability will probably be latter 2024. More information will appear here as it becomes available. "Adventure awaits in the fields on the beach and even beneath the waves. There's a storm on the horizon. Garrett's new arrival will deliver new technology and versatile new options, not just minor changes to an existing product. This is a completely new detector series - its power will be revealed soon." 14. Welcome to March 30th 2024! The forum had a database meltdown that required loading a backup from 3/30/2024. All posts since them are gone, and all members who signed up after that date will have to register again. I can understand why you might not want to but this is my first forum failure since 1998, so maybe give it another try. We had lost the years of accumulated post "likes" and the good news is those have been restored. Knowing which posts got the most attention over the years was very valuable in zeroing in on the best information. I have upgraded the database software to the latest version and turned of all the third party plugins that were running in hopes of avoiding another meltdown. One plugin in particular formatted the thread titles so each word had the first letter in caps. It looked nice I think, but it was out of date and unsupported. So I shut it off and thread titles will be whatever people put in them. Might look messier but I want to get the forum as close to vanilla operation as possible. There was a plugin for "Member since" under your avatar and one that allowed me to bump topics - both gone for the same reason. We are now just running plain vanilla Invision in the hope that it wil prevent whatever caused the previous database corruption to occur. Main lesson learned is I will be implementing automatic database backups to replace my haphazard and ultimately lax manual backups. No more rolling back two months if another meltdown occurs. I apologize to everyone who had posts go away, and members who have to register again. Thanks for your patience and for supporting the forum. Steve Herschbach P.S. Just before this happened the forum went to not allowing user name for login since everyone can see what your user name is. It got set to require your email on file and password to login. I have reverted this temporarily to allow login with user name, but do update your email on file and start using that to log in. If you made that change in the last couple months you need to do so again. Also, if you have Newsletters turned off under notification settings I can't email you. I sent everyone an email for like the second time ever, and 28% of people had it shut off. Just saying. I won't send you anything ever unless it's super important, I promise.

  16. I once hoped this forum would recapture some of the magic of the old days at the Alaska Gold Forum. It is obvious now that is not to be, with almost no posts here anymore about gold dredging. It makes sense as I gave that up in favor of metal detecting myself over 25 years ago, and without me driving discussion about dredging here the idea was doomed to failure. By and large the main posting action on these forums is about metal detecting. I got curious where if anywhere the dredgers ended up at, and a brief search of Google results has me thinking the TreasureNet Dredging & Hi Banking Forum is now the place to be if you have an interest in the subject. Looks like lots of good posters and posts there. Not much has changed in the dredging world from what I can see except the dubious fascination with whiz bang magical mats. I doubt anything will change here as regards gold dredging so best bet for those interested will be to head where the action is, and as far as I can tell TreasureNet is the only place getting any substantial number of new posts on the subject on a regular basis.
  17. The headphone update provides "wireless audio connection stability improvements"
  18. The octagon..reminds me of some tokens I’ve found...are you sure it’s a button? strick
  19. TampaBayBrad, Yeah, that's why I put the side note about updating the firmware on the headphones. Most overlook that part of the process. One would assume that if you update the Manticore, the headphones would need updated too. I can't say for sure though. John
  20. I bought a Nomad a few years back and didn't like the narrow blade which takes longer to cut a plug and does not scoop dirt well. The big Root Slayer with the wider blade looks nice but it is heavy and expensive. I chose the Floral mainly for its lightness and its ability to cut plugs quickly and efficiently. Tree roots can be a challenge sometimes. Serrated edges would be a nice improvement.
  21. I will never forget that day I was twelve and was at my Grandparrents home with my family. We were all watching the Ed Sullivan show when the phone rang.Turns out that it was my older brother calling from Crescent City California. He was a patrolman for the local police department and called to let us know about the imminent tidal wave. The following weekend we all drove up there from Ukiah to see the massive destruction first hand.
  22. Yikes, yeah the wind got really brutal. It was warm, around 67, but ya wouldn't have known it ? yep it's all yours now. I put most things I find in display cases, I have quite the collection now, and common objects like shotgun head stamps and bullets, especially buckshot, get round filed. The larger brass that's identifiable goes in a box. If I ever get up there I could bring the box... ?
  23. Thanks VL, I'm beginning to wonder if it's time to cut and run for the year ? a recap would astound me, I think. ?
  24. Thanks JCR, Another possibility for all these different buttons and no coins could be that it was a training spot for the militia around 1776. ? There is an account of one being raised in this area. Could have been active, like combat training, which could explain why buttons fell off. Shame we will probably never know. ?
