  1. Every single mode can store completely different sets of audio options. The only one that is limited is Gold Mode, which has no separate target id tones. Minelab Equinox Tones & Advanced Tone Options
  2. I have been doing the best I can to provide as much information as possible while working around a non-disclosure agreement. I would hope that has earned me just a little understanding and forbearance from people when I feel like I need to backtrack a little. For those who have extended me that courtesy, I thank you.
  3. Welcome to the forum! I had the first Gold Racer in the U.S. and I consider it a fine detector. I still own it - one of the few that has stood the test of time with me. However, Makro never sits still and they constantly improve their detectors. With the Gold Racer being over two years old I see no reason to think there is anything a Gold Racer would do better than a Gold Kruzer. The Gold Racer might be a little better balanced physically? The bottom line is I am in no hurry to replace my Gold Racer, but if I do it will be a Gold Kruzer that takes its place.
  4. The basics... Assaying Gold and Silver Ores Here is a website that covers assaying and refining in great detail, probably more than most people need.... Basement Chemistry For The Prospector
  5. A forum member by the name of Condor has made quite a few posts of gold found in the Yuma area.
  6. Only if it contains gold or silver in the first place. Most iron ore contains just iron.
  7. Here are a couple related threads that might be useful.... http://www.detectorprospector.com/forum/topic/1062-minelab-pi-coil-on-whites-tdi/ And http://www.detectorprospector.com/forum/topic/3534-minelab-coil-on-whites-tdi/
  8. Randy Dee suggested this topic and I need practice creating a poll so here it is. One choice only.
  9. Bryan, it was not you. More posts in a similar theme piled on and so this is not about or aimed at any person. I was leery of posting the photo in particular because of the thousand unintended words it invoked. Take 50 bottle caps, air test them with a CTX and post a photo of the 50 caps along with the target id information. All targets have to read someplace, so have at it. Now, when you post those results, does it mean the CTX is a bottle cap digging monster? No. Most would say just the opposite. “But hey, what about that picture of all the bottle caps dug with the CTX?” says everyone else. And that was where this was heading. From here on out I will pay attention to any bottle caps I actually dig and perhaps discuss those, but trying to air test caps dug with other detectors was apparently not a good idea. I should know better - I hate air tests. All that matters is what I dig or don’t dig, and bottle caps have not been an issue for me.
  10. Since the FORS CoRe lacks a full tones audio option that may not be a fair comparison. The CoRe three tone mode mode is as far as it goes. The FORS models also have more of what Keith Southern calls a “bleedy-blendy” audio whereas the audio responses on the Equinox are more digital/discrete? Long story short I don’t have Keith’s skills in trying to describe audio plus I have not used a CoRe type machine in a couple years so I am not much help on this one. I like having a full tones option myself. Other people hate full tones and prefer a more limited tone option, like the CoRe three tone mode. Audio like ergonomics tends to be highly personal so any one type can’t be said to be better than another. It’s a whatever works for you sort of thing.
  11. Exact performance data will have to wait for a third party source or at least somebody other than me who is actually using a shipping production model of the Equinox.
  12. Well, I took a bunch of crown caps found with other detectors and bench/air tested the responses and posted with a photo. And although I have not had an issue digging bottle caps with Equinox it was promptly misinterpreted as meaning I am out digging lots of bottle caps with the Equinox. The post and those that followed have therefore been deleted. Chase, Minelab has tried to normalize target id responses in all frequencies and modes but there may be slight variations. These in turn might be helpful in cross analyzing results in different modes or frequencies, but it will remain for a study of shipping units to determine if there is anything there that is useful.
  13. Well, like I posted on another thread, kudos to Neil and the others for bothering to shoot any video at all. I could be shooting all kinds of video but it simply takes too much of my time and so I don’t. My appreciation then to those that do.
  14. I give them credit for at least trying. I could take the entire day today and tomorrow to shoot Equinox video, edit it, and post it. Maybe drive over to the coast and do a full beach production. And spend a few hours shooting live coin digs. That however sounds like a lot of time to me that I could use doing something more fun, like metal detect. And then there would be the critics. Why bother?
  15. No Paul, not as tippy as the Gold Monster. More like the X-Terra 705 or Gold Bug Pro in that department. The Gold Monster has the 8 AA batteries topside, whereas the Equinox has a lighter Li-Ion battery in the handle. Less weight, lower center of gravity.
  16. The NEL Snake ran really great on my Tek G2. If I had an AT Gold I would be tempted based on what I saw with the G2 but I can’t hekp more than that.
  17. Colorado has a combination of highly mineralized ground and large gold is rare. That being said it would be a more difficult place to get started. You either have to be proficient with a hot 30 kHz plus detector (example - Fisher Gold Bug 2) for small gold on bad ground (a difficult detecting scenario) or invest in something expensive like the Minelab SDC 2300. 18. No go on the 4 AA power stick. With four new Duracell AA alkaline batteries the charging indicator light will cycle with a blip instead of a full pulsing light. It will neither charge the battery nor run the detector. The voltage is right so we are in my opinion just barely below the amperage threshold required for either action to take place.
  19. Gold is a good but not a great conductor of electricity. Copper and silver are better. People assume gold is better because they see it being used in electronics, but that has less to do with its conductive properties than gold's ability to withstand tarnishing or corrosion. From http://www.mains-cables-r-us.co.uk/blog/2011/11/20/the-conductivity-of-metals-used-in-hi-fi/ Even this chart is based on pure gold. Gold alloys have far poorer conductivity than pure gold, and so the difference is much greater for alloyed jewelry gold and natural gold. 20. Gold AND silver - nice! Better yet, I am extremely happy to see you able to speak out on Equinox now JP. It has been lonely out here on the front lines the last couple months. Thanks for the great write-up and photos. Good going on the coins, we make make a coin hunter out of you yet!
  21. http://www.detectorprospector.com/forum/topic/4899-what-is-length-of-equinox-fully-collapsed/?do=findComment&comment=51607 The Gold Monster comes with a three piece screw-together (non-collapsible) rod assembly. However, it does have the same 22 mm diameter upper rod outside diameter and 20 mm lower rod outside diameter.
