Manticore Headphone Option Experimentation/experiences
midalake replied to GB_Amateur's topic in Minelab Manticore Forum
Ya, those ole corded headphones look better and better every day! -
I don't know. There are other hunters that have experienced numbers of all kinds with gold and the Deus2. I have not acid tested it but it looks real to me. Probably the added silver to make white gold? What is 10k white gold mixed with? White gold is generally alloyed with silver and/or palladium. A common composition for 10 karat white gold is 41.7 percent gold, 47.4 percent silver, 10 percent palladium, and 0.9 percent zinc.Dec 6, 2022

YET>>>there are new machines produced today that cannot do this. -
Understanding Threshold
midalake replied to AhNibblet's topic in Metal Detector Advice & Comparisons
Second off>> Not all thresholds are created equal. Not many machines work like a Sovereign GT. It will take some experimentation regardless of the machine! -
Fisher AQ Limited Is Now Available
midalake replied to The_Stalker's topic in First Texas - Bounty Hunter, Fisher & Teknetics
I remember when the designer of this machine was touting it on the forums. He CLEARLY stated that he had two advanced platforms above what the first Impulse was to be. Anything other than an entire new platform will be a disaster. I suspect this is already a disaster. -
Nice HONKER!!! Question> Equinox correct? Can you not tell those stakes are ferrous?

Anyone Pump The Coil Up And Down On Targets?
midalake replied to Medina's topic in Minelab Manticore Forum
Does not matter what type of ground or water I am standing on. NEVER going to pump my coil to tell me what is in the ground. -
Larger coils are more sensitive to EMI and mineralization. In my experience I have to run a point or two less sensitivity as compared to a smaller coil. To see if it is EMI keep your coil several feet off the ground and see if it is still noisy. If not, then minerals are the problem. Experiment with different IB and recovery speeds. Also try different detection modes. A recovery and Iron Bias of 6 each might get you some more sensitivity.

Top Notch Quality On Boarderline Sand Scoop
midalake replied to kac's topic in Metal Detector Advice & Comparisons
Looks like a nice scoop! But, a scoop at 5" requires good pinpointing, especially in the wave wash. I know this would be too small for me. -
Humm. I am wired with headphones through the bonephone connection. Thought I have tone differences between PWM and Full Tones???? But I am running speakers......not piezo speakers.

Drag When Detecting In The Ocean W 11x13 Coil
midalake replied to 619_805_okie's topic in XP Deus II Forum
Yes, it would be. If one puts a tape measure to the 9" Deus2 coil it actually reads more like 8 3/4. Even though it is a DD coil it still loses a little coverage at depth. A 10X5 coil would be more forgiving on coverage! -
I would not mess around with the cheap Bones Phones. I would get a pair of Tony Eisenhower waterproof diving headphones. Contact here: tony@idigbeaches.com

Drag When Detecting In The Ocean W 11x13 Coil
midalake replied to 619_805_okie's topic in XP Deus II Forum
Carbon fiber is just about indestructible and zero flex. Steve now has a replacement. http://www.stevesdetectorrods.com/list.php?Brand=1 BEFORE Steve had the replacement made, he helped me put together a shaft with my own custom mount that I built! -
Drag When Detecting In The Ocean W 11x13 Coil
midalake replied to 619_805_okie's topic in XP Deus II Forum
Did you ever put the 12X15 Equinox coil in the water??? Yup, quite a treat. The stock rod for the Deus2 is inadequate for any water hunting in my opinion. I replaced my stock rod with a custom CF rod. I was not wild of water hunting with a 9" coil. My past opinion was a coil that size was too small on a salt beach. After the last three months of working the Deus 9" , I have no plans of changing to a larger coil to hunt in the water. If I had a choice, it would be for a 10" coil for in the water. -
Just to reinsert the causes and effects we are talking about DEEP fringe targets. At the beach I hunt fringe targets of all metals will not give numbers on a routinely daily basis. My method is to investigate in another mode [like others do] I usually raise the sensitivity to look at that one target and also take a scoop off if needed. It is amazing how many of these are iron. Even in the two-tone program I hunt in, Iron wrap-around is a fact with the D2. The D2 is a good tonal machine until you have fringe targets that do not lock. I have had iron grunts with deep nonferrous and no iron grunts with deep ferrous. What really is disappointing deep nonferrous gives zero hints it might be nonferrous. ALWAYS choppy, ratty, bitey broken signals [just like deep ferrous] My only hope is that I can get the D2 to throw a number. I chase WAY more ferrous targets at the beach than with the GT Sovereign, Equinox, and although not enough time on the machine I suspect the Manticore would be added as well. [it is not even close] And of course,>>>someone hunting land my not see what I am experiencing on a black sand salt beach. Of course [2] No machine is perfect. But the D2 does make the Equinox look like an Ace 400 in the moving wave wash zone.
