  1. That might be perceived. But just because the default discrimination beach modes might be slightly quieter to EMI, do not expect better depth performance as compared to Horseshoe mode. If in horseshoe mode Jeff, shallow targets which double ring with minus numbers, that target is ferrous 100% of the time. Non-Ferrous targets do have the ability to double ring. But it will be a very shallow target with all positive numbers.
  2. I see when he switched to Beach 1 the EMI was less. I think the test is a fair one. EMI be darned. Two detectors in the same spot same target. One lost. I have heard that Deus2 pretty chirpy too in some EMI tests. I would bet that I could of heard that ring in horseshoe mode on the Equinox and made a 100% ID of a non-ferrous target.
  3. Let's cut to the chase Jeff. The Equinox got it's ACE handed to it in this test!!!!!!!!!!!
  4. It seems as years go by, that some are obsessed with having an exact Tid number . Which I think is a mistake. Mentioned before, but I only hunt in one tone at the beach. But my personal accept mode is anything +1 and greater. If there is one thing to be learned on the Equinox it is, numbers cannot be trusted. Especially in: Mineralization, EMI, Salt Water contact, Depth, trash, and some days just because. How will the Deus do on Tid? I suspect it will struggle in some areas too.
  5. One item I picked up. The tester said the Equinox was at 23 sensitivity, And the Legend was "maxed out" on sensitivity.
  6. Do preset beach programs already have discrimination values on the Deus2? There is no all meatal mode on the machine? Thanks
  7. As a long time hunter, performance is #1. Weight is of the machine is WAY down the checklist.
  8. I think that is a very reasonable assessment for many of us who have been detecting a while. If I were to put in 5, four-hour beach hunts I could tell the basic strengths of a machine. But to truly master it, would take much longer.
  9. Yes, for some of us who have been around for some time understand this but for new people is needs to be mentioned. I think your example of interference/noise is a perfect one! If you are not moving your detector the interference is EMI. If you are moving your detector and you have interference it is Ground Balance issues or too much sensitivity.
  10. Then one needs to be proficient enough to know the difference between Ground noise and EMI.
  11. In your case, that extra sensitivity is going to find you more! No doubt about it!
  12. I am going to go out on a limb, that from this point forward in history it will be very difficult to out do/out smart factory preset modes in most cases. With today's processors and more complicated processes, there are just too many built in issues to overcome for a button tweaker.
  13. Not bad, considering the EMI that is present. Which no doubt is killing some depth.
  14. Sadly, I called this over a year ago. A friend of mine really wanted one and I talked him out, now he thanks me all the time. I have not all lost hope though. The developer stated he had two other versions above the one released. I would bet that if we see something from the boys at Fisher on this platform it would be much better.
  15. It is one thing beach hunters notice that the Equinox runs quieter in the tracking mode. I am not surprised. Were you able to up your sensitivity at all in any of your different spots?
  16. In the early days of the Equinox, I ran GB 0 at the beach. Because people said "you could". In those early days I chased numerous ghost signals. I now rarely do I get a deep ghost running in Tracking GB. Wish I could help more but I feel ghost signals with the Equinox just happen. Possible it might be ferrous targets that are very degraded with large halo effect. Then when one digs the whole item just disappears?
  17. I don't doubt it. The Equinox at sensitivity 24 is quite impressive! Good work.
  18. Hi Luis. Please keep posting any saltwater examples. Coins? WHO CARES!! Why was this not a gold test?
  19. Well, no advantage yet...........still waiting.
  20. I know Steve! I was just kind of visualizing out loud. I always try to stay out of dirt settings because I just don't know. But it is nice to know what everyone does and why. Kind of where I was going. I am glad you posted that info of the difference and when I get a second will read it, probably twice.
  21. I have noticed that in any mode with Minelab's in general that large ferrous or surface ferrous hits can interrupt the detection ability briefly upon moving on. Does not seem to be an issue with non-ferrous hits of the same proportion. It was very noticeable with the Sovereign BBS units. But only slightly noticeable with the Equinox platform. I have an aluminum scoop and sometimes I swipe it at the coil to do a little reset, per say. But yes, I do think constant banging iron has an effect. And one needs to know or slow down.
  22. So I just returned from two weeks of beach working. Our area was hit with a hurricane 1 month ago. The beach I hunt normally has a moderate black sand issue for about two blocks. Then for the next mile not so bad. After this hurricane, the black sand portion of the beach was worse, and concentrated deposits were found in numerous other locations. It was highly noticeable in Tracking GB. I guess my point is: not sure how I could of successfully do a manual GB on this?? My choice was to slow WAY down, and to alter sensitivity a point or two. Most of these concentrated areas of black sand were 10'X10' to triple that size. I do have high confidence in the tracking GB mode on the Equinox. Some have alluded to the tracking GB ignoring/skipping/ or cancelling a deep target that is looked at repeatedly. Or miss it in the first place all together. I have found this not to be the case. In my experience it is possible if one is too aggressive on swing and quick repeated engagement on a deep target. The ability for one to determine what it is can be an issue. This is why coil control is so important with the Equinox. When this happens I usually back off, do a noise cancel and reengage the target. But again, this is only for the faintest of targets.
