  1. The signal is too processed on an Equinox to tell these differences. I am speaking for myself. I find the pinpoint mode on the Equinox one of the worst features. For many reasons. I do all my pinpointing for removal in the horseshoe mode.

  3. While I have no experience in dirt. All my readings tell me 18 kHz would not be the best for silver.
  4. This is the biggest design failure I have ever seen in detectors. For an extra 50 cents of plastic.
  5. Don't mess around when you get the new one. Get a quality stiffener and epoxy it to the ears and coil. HH

  7. For some reason on wet sand I am getting this done to incredible depths and the faintest of audio. The reliability factor has been high. Also can run 23-24 sensitivity most days. I also have been running the threshold on a position or two. While this does not create a true audible threshold, it seems to enhance deep targets. Jeff, I think you said you were restricting the lower iron bin. Maybe since deep targets both ferrous and nonferrous do not come out of this bin, restricting it might have consequences with hearing the right sounds? I don't restrict the bottom bin. Can anyone remind me what FE6 would be in F2 settings?
  8. OK. I have thoughts. So I have done some testing of F2, but still hunt in FE. After a whole year of testing FE6 and FE4 there was no difference in targets that were dug. I am going to guess that there may be different reactions in different modes do to frequency weighting? I don't know this for sure, but is plausible. So when hunting in beach 2, when it comes to very deep targets I have learned to identify them as ferrous and non ferrous by the telltale fact that a ferrous target [at depth] will double ring/ and or breakdown as you work around the target. So I am convinced that things like Black Sand and Salt Water have a distinct effect on the Equinox ability to show a correct VDI number at depth. Throw in a little EMI, it is even worse. I am working in FE because I found F2 does not double ring on ferrous as crisp. To see how well this works, when I had deep targets I thought were nonferrous I then switched the Equinox over to Discrimination. All of these fringe deep nonferrous Never even registered in discrimination. Not even a little beep or tick of a sound. Personally I have not made a connection to higher IB numbers masking targets. I fully plan to work on this more when back on the machine.
  9. Hi Jeff When you say you hunted in Zero Discrimination do you mean horseshoe mode?
  10. Chase is correct. To strengthen the coil correctly the coil support MUST be epoxied to all surfaces it touches. You will not need a warranty for breakage after the coil support is correctly installed. It won't break! For the record. I had a coil break, and I put a coil ear and epoxy repair on it so I could finish my trip. Minelab did have pictures before the repair. They did send me a new coil.
  11. Ice, Ice baby............. Especially before sleeping.
  12. I know you haven't had much feedback and their is a reason for that. Minelab has put much effort in my opinion to starting points that are very accurate for different modes. For the whole time the Equinox has been out there have been very few people that can re-write the script on their setting recommendations. Where the difference boils down to is the specific site conditions. High black sand, EMI issues, Heavy mineral content, moving salt water, high target concentration, personal choices with what one is looking for [to name a few]. Get to know your machine with some of the recommended settings and then acquire the knowledge to fine tune your location. Dave
  13. Wow. 10 hours. Good for you. I could never do 10 hours without serious issues the next day.
  14. I use third party wired headphones. Because: Third party headphones are better quality than Minelab. No connectivity issues The WM08 was not compatible with the third party headphones I use.
  15. The chain at 8 rang solid with hard lock. In fact I was in discrimination mode and never switched to horseshoe to center the target. So hard to tell depth at the beach! It came out 1 scoop. Doubt it was over 3". But again, hard to tell depth.
  16. I don't have any pics. But I am 5-6 gold chains [no pendants] with the Equinox so far. Range has been 1-8. The thickest one rang, 8.
  17. I did not see crazy people who do not want you detecting, on the list???
  18. I concur with all written above. Heck, I have two 800's because one is just not trustworthy enough. πŸ˜‚
  19. WOW, all sincerity. Get lotto tickets for the next drawing!!!! Great Finds!
  20. The Minelab bolt for a water hunter is junk. The first time I took it apart is was slammed full of sand. Almost a tablespoon in total between the two. No thanks, back to standard plastic bolt for over two years. .
  21. I would not be too hard on your self! The coil ears fail EVERYWHERE because of MFG. DEFECT! Too much pressure will also crack through the bolt holes as well. I know there is only one fix. As guys still break coil ears with stiffeners regardless if their attached with hokey zip ties or not. BELOW, it the only pure fix. 1. Take any coil support that is not made of infill and epoxy it to the coil and coil ears making it as one. 2. Make a custom set of side plates and epoxy them to each side for further support. I have 7 months of full use time on my 11" coils already without issue. 7 days a week 3-4 hour hunts, that's about 760 hours of use. In the worst environment possible , the pounding surf of the Pacific ocean. I have recently completed my 15 Minelab coil. Each coil ear is now 1/2" thick.
  22. I am having this problem right now and heading for a MRI this week. Checking for a fractured something or other. I stepped on a really pointed small rock I never saw coming. Took it right in front of the heel. Was just checking on inserts. Kind of like Joe, thought I was over it, but 4 days of beach hunting put it back on fire. I do doubt this is "vitamin" thing as I regularly take the necessary stuff. Flaring tendons are a "B" to deal with.
  23. Guess I am not quite getting it? Are these waterproof? If not how would it help broken cracking cables? Once it is on/applied how would you know if you had a further cable cracking problems?
