Who Has Had Issues With Their Gpx 6000?
schoolofhardNox replied to Goldseeker5000's topic in Detector Prospector Forum
I felt really bad when mine was DOA. I thought everyone was going to think I was crazy 😄, as Minelab is a much better company than that. But things do happen, and unfortunately even the biggest companies can not control quality like in the old days. -

Oh no............... I hope you dig less and find more than me 😄 I also hope you live far from New England 😆 Besides digging a lot, you will develop Popeye arms (well at least one arm), get strange looks from people for your harness, and eventually you will have other detectorists approach you as you dig to China. If they could put the GPX in an Equinox body, I would be out of business. Seriously, I hope you do well with it and look forward to seeing what you get after the Tarsacci has it's run on the beach. Once you get the hang of it, you will fall in love with it. The machine is a work of art to me. -

I primarily use pulse machine. Multi frequency is second option only if conditions allow it. If enough sand is removed and some clay is exposed, then multi frequency discrimination is the fastest way to find gold and silver. All other times Pulse machine. Only need 2 machines for WW3 😄 -

True. My luck I would find one so corroded that no one would want it anyways ☹️ -

Super patina on that IH. Solid, even patina. Great coin. A little tooth picking and soft tooth brush on the remaining dirt and that's all I would do to it. Nice find. Why didn't you find an 1877 like that? 😄 -
Beach Season Has Begun

I bring enough sand home too 🙄 It doesn't seem like I dig that much until I get home and start to sort it out. I have a belt with 2 home made pouches on it, along with my pin pointer. One pouch is for trash, a screwdriver (for prying rocks loose) and a toothbrush (for unclogging those tiny slits that the Garrett pinpointer has for speaker holes). The other pouch is for a drink, an old vitamin container with a slice cut out of the top, so I can just slip the coins in. Also somewhere is a 9 volt battery in a baggie just so I don't have to go anywhere if the pinpointer dies. I also throw trash in this one too if I get a lot of big stuff. I usually empty them about half way through the hunt, when I do a bathroom visit. Each pouch has a plastic insert in it so it last longer from all that sharp iron I dig. It's no beauty by any means, 😶 but it gets the job done.- 206 replies

Beach Season Has Begun
schoolofhardNox replied to schoolofhardNox's topic in Metal Detecting For Coins & Relics
Beach hunt # 6 is over! Not much has changed conditions wise, so I hit the same area I did last week, just expanding it a bit. I must have been working a newer layer, as most of the clad coin dates were at least 10 years newer than the last hunt. The chance for silver goes down quite a bit, but you still have to dig that deep clad, just in case. No gold this time around, but I did get 3 silvers - a Mercury dime, Roosevelt dime, and a war nickel. The ratio of copper cents to zinc cents was great. The amount of iron and aluminum dug was not so great. 😄 Also dug a Buffalo nickel and a transit token. Lots of work for just a couple of good finds, but it’s worth it if you consider I wasn’t at work and I got to view a beautiful beach. Keep digging!- 206 replies

Great beach hunts. Nice going. Always a pleasure when the good items are closer together than walking long distances to get them. But you dig a lot more holes when targets are plentiful. Love seeing the gold and silver everyone pulls out.

Knowing When To Move On
schoolofhardNox replied to Detectorist Dan's topic in Detector Prospector Forum
Not a gold hunter here, but I would think that if you have a lot of free time, then hunting old patches is not a bad thing. It can also be therapeutic to visit places of fond memories. But if you are limited on time, then hunting new patches seems a better bet, even though you may strike out a lot. But hunting new ground also has a sense of adventure and can recharge you so detecting doesn't get stale after a while. I hunt my same areas a lot because they can renew themselves, where gold hunting can produce again generally only if you physically remove layers of dirt (discounting new technology). So to stay or move would be a choice that involves how you think and feel internally and not so much if the area is still producing gold. The is no logical reason to keep reworking the same patch just to get scraps, yet a lot of people still do that. So maybe it's more of a philosophical question than a logical one. I say this because I will be detecting the same beach I always do next time out 😆 -
Hi, I use a 12.5" DD coil from Detech for coin hunting on beaches. I have not tried it in fields as much, but when I did, it worked fine. The 15" ultra sensing sounds interesting. If you buy one I would be interested in knowing how you like it.

It was probably just riding the line between 3 and 2 bars. If you did not let it sit, it probably would have remained at 2 bars for a long time. That's how mine worked as well. It ran at 3 for a while, then remained at 2 for the longest time. Lithium batteries kind of run that cycle is my guess. I don't believe there is anything wrong with it.

Beach Season Has Begun
schoolofhardNox replied to schoolofhardNox's topic in Metal Detecting For Coins & Relics
Thanks Joe. The ring's engraving says '63 and most of the copper pennies were Memorials, So I'm guessing it was lost in the late 60's early 70's. I was just happy to see gold that wasn't plated!! This spot seems to be riding the silver / clad line, which makes digging deep a lot harder when you only get a clad dime 🙄. The 1902 V nickel shows me there is still another layer down there beyond my reach.- 206 replies

Thanks, but please do dream of me winning the lottery too! 😄 Sometimes you get that monkey on your back and no matter what, every ring is going to be junk. I had 4 or 5 rings already and some looked really convincing but in the end they were all junkers. That must be some wedding to keep you busy till the end of the month.😵- 206 replies

schoolofhardNox replied to schoolofhardNox's topic in Metal Detecting For Coins & Relics
Thanks. Thought it was going to just be a clad coin day. Yeah, sometimes if they are not in the direct waves, they survive better. Never real good though 😄 The wedding band has a '63 date to it, so 1963 it is. But the design looked older to us too. Not really a style I was familiar with.- 206 replies

Beach Season Has Begun
schoolofhardNox replied to schoolofhardNox's topic in Metal Detecting For Coins & Relics
Beach hunt # 5 is done!!! Decided to hit a new beach that may drain well at low tide. Got there to a pretty big crowd of people still enjoying the 70-degree weather. Looked fairly sanded in, so I pulled the Equinox out for about 2 hours and got some change and other bits. I didn’t even dare bring the GPX 6000 out here, since this beach is old and loaded with iron. You would be digging junk every 2 feet. Not wanting to waste my only day for detecting, I decided to pack up (something I rarely do, as I hate losing time to traveling), and hit my favorite silver beach. Glad I did. Not much at the beginning, as it was sanded in like everywhere around here. Usually by now, we get some beach erosion. The tides are not pulling much sand away so far. So, I shifted gears and tried to find a section of the beach that I maybe could squeak out a wheat or stray silver. I gambled well, as it ended up producing a lot more than I was begging for. 😄 I started by hitting an old spoon, then some older green/red clad and then some silver dimes. But the finding of old lead always gets me going, as it has been there a long time. So I was at a layer that could produce more silver. But I wasn’t expecting to hit a gold ring. 14K wedding band, probably lost in the late 60’s/70’s. Also got a tiny sterling religious charm and a surprise 1902 V nickel. A much better day than I was expecting. I used the GPX 5000 for this beach for about 6 hours and then called it quits. I was tired of digging through packed rocks. So, it looks like I will be heading back next week to see if conditions allow me to continue. Most of the coins came in the last 3 hours of the hunt. As always, I’m grateful to be at the beach enjoying the sight of the waves and the warmth of the sun.- 206 replies

I would think that Fisher, like everyone else is reassessing itself. Going forward companies have to be relevant and streamlined. Any company having old outdated and under performing models will eventually fade, no matter how big they are. I think Fishers best bet it to release the new, solid AQ and revamp their whole line up and find that niche that would make you want one of their machines. Business as usual won't cut it anymore, no matter what industry you are in. Just my thoughts on it.

Recent All Nighter Delivers The Goods

Great hunt!! It's hard to quit when you are finding gold like that. But digging hundreds of coins as well as junk, really takes a toll on you for the next couple of days. But you have to do it or miss a great opportunity that doesn't come around very often. Worth every cramp 😄 -
Maybe she is blinded by the light off of all those diamonds and can't find her way back. 😄
