  1. I think I'm getting the same but like to keep a full charge before I head out. Headphones last a while though. I stopped using my Minelab Pro Find 35 with it because it just drives the MKK crazy at 14khz. My old Whites Bullseye works fine. Actually like it better because I put a toggle switch on it and there is no 2-3 sec calibration to go through that gets annoying if your coin shooting because your constantly turning it on and off. Am thinking of the external battery pack but that could be an issue if I get the waterproof headphones because they use the same port.
  2. Back on the one cent is in pretty good shape, majority of the ones up here are all blown out and look like copper colored electrical box slugs. Nice run!
  3. My AT Pro is aging, so I was looking at the different machines and ended up with the MKK because the coil options, s handle and recovery speed. I almost pulled the trigger on the Nox but the 11" coil would be tough to navigate in much of the patches I hit and has no concentric coil. I looked at the Deus and Orx but neither are truly waterproof and also coil choices limited. The Tejon works great but the 10x12 is a horror show with bottle caps since there is no iron audio and it is also fairly weak on deep silver. I still use the Tejon in really trashy parks with the concentric as I can just tune out those caps. Of the machines I have the Tejon has the smoothest audio, ATP 2nd. The MKK takes some getting used to and bit of learning the audio nuances. That 7x11 coil on the MKK when using 2 tone, 4 tone and deep mode rival the depth on the ATP with the Nel Big. That simply blows me away as it opens up areas I couldn't effectively hit like the old foundations and between undergrowth and trees. That bulled was in the 12" mark. I think the MKK was overshadowed by the Amphibio with larger coil. Definitely a sleeper machine as I suspected and an excellent relic machine. I figured out that the deeper modes it is easy to kill the chatter you may get by simply upping the discrim. Seems it chatters on the iron and mineralization so very easy to quiet the unit down. One thing I'm not crazy about is the battery life, days outing you can easily run it down and need to recharge compared to the ATP with an RNB that gets close to 40 hours! Thanks!
  4. Busy learning the Multi Kruzer and been picking up some nice stuff that was missed. Silver ear ring was from local park as I was looking for gold ear ring a lady had lost the other day. Today I found an old bullet, mid/late 1800's was about a foot deep. Running the MKK at 14khz 4 tone and just kicked up the disc to 15 and gain to 95. Amazing how deep that machine goes! The beat up quarter is 80's I think, also pretty deep for some reason. Prize for the day was the Sterling St. Christopher Protect Us pendant. I'm not a religious but almost seems like a sign of some sorts in these days. The pendant was pretty shallow in hard pack gravel path. Machine works really well for relic hunting in the woods. The smaller coil with incredible depth is perfect for these parts. So far the 14khz seems to the best frequency for coins and relics. The 19 khz is excellent in 3 tone mode and shallow trashy park hunting. I found not much difference in depth between 5 and 14 khz yet but find the vdi a little vague in 5.
  5. You can look on Mcmaster Carr, www.mcmaster.com Lots of cool industrial stuff, use them occasionally when tinkering. Other option is put a bid in on the building and specify you want all the parts included hehe
  6. Pewter is 90%+ tin and used widely in novelty castings. There is Lead free pewters which have a dull gray and the lead free also known as Britannia 8 which are much shinier and don't dull out. Both are pretty corrosion resistant. Many of the novelty castings were done in organic rubber molds on a centrifugal casting machine. When Silicone molds came along the working temperature was much higher allowing these castings to be much cheaper out of zinc and zinc alloys like zamak which were often plated after. The zinc castings deteriorate in the ground just like the zinc pennies do. So quick edumacated guess that casting is probably 70-80's or maybe younger.
  7. Shield badge might be zinc, pewter usually holds up very well as tin is pretty corrosion resistant. Could be a club pin. That ring looks good, 925?
  8. Yup looks like a musket ball, those were out before the 3 ringers. I have found quite a few up this way too. Probably impossible to prove or determine if it was Washington related unless maybe it has some wooden teeth marks hehe.
  9. Garrett M2's are very comfortable. They have a model with angled 1/4" adapter, price is very reasonable. https://www.bigboyshobbies.net/garrett-ms-2-headphones I also use their lightweight stow away ones which are nice but have a bad location on the volume switch. Waterproof ones they have do not have a volume switch, might be other brands that do if you need waterproof ones.
  10. If you run the concentric try using the MK in 19khz and 3 tone mode. Also drop the gain down 70 or less and it should be super easy for park hunting. My Tejon is just shy of 18khz and I use a concentric of similar size in parks. Walk right over flat without skipping anything good.
  11. Quickie update on settings I tried. I blew off couple hours from work, thought it was Friday Doh! I hit an area that I had gone through a few times with both my AT Pro with stock dd and Nel Big as well as my Tejon with both the 10x12 dd and 8x9 concentric. Surprisingly I was able to pick through the tons of iron easily. Pulled a few nails from tiny ones to a big spike because I had mixed targets with coins in the same small plug I make. I have been using 3 tone as my base setting then will toggle to the 2 tone to check for any small iron and gain bit of extra punch. The 3 tone is quiet as a mouse in some of the most miserable areas and not missing a descent hit. I think I'll give that same setting a try at the trashy park nearby but just drop the gain way down. 3 tone settings: 14khz Normal (default setting) 85 Gain 3 disc 4 notch (think that's default) 2 fe vol 1 isat 2 tone settings: 14kzh Normal 85 Gain 0 Disc 01 Notch (think that's default) 2 fe vol 1 isat I swapped back to normalized vid because I was forgetting what to dig and what not when I changed frequencies. Think my brain is getting too old to keep up lol
  12. Start a reality tv series and get some network to foot the bill 😉
  13. Welcome to the forums, seems like you have a couple of hours under your belt 🙂 For the knob, old plastic can be fragile. If there is no set screw on the side then it is probably just pushed on and the shaft probably has tines. You could test some mineral oil and see if it reacts to the plastic. If it doesn't then maybe put a couple drops on the shaft with the knob facing downward and let it sit there for a day or so to creep in. Personally I would leave it alone unless I had a spare to replace it with.
  14. I use the large dd in open fields, meadows and some woods hunting. I use the 8x9 concentric in high trash areas like parks and ball fields. DD coils in general will put flat iron objects up in the copper/silver range whereas the concentric coil will be much lower below aluminum where logically it should be. Just a quirk with dd coils in general. I do like the dual discrim on the Tejon. In a park I will put the first disc at the foil line and second at the pull tab. This makes coin shooting pretty easy for me. Nickels, medium gold rings hit in the same range, most square tabs hit at the high line of nickels and usually have a longer sound vs a nickel and sometimes a slight pop less roll depending on orientation. At least thats how they sound here. I use the default audio pitch as it has a bit of range to it rather than user set that is flat. The pinpoint works good to better judge size and depth.
  15. Only thing I don't like about the Tejon with the 10x12 is bottle caps kill me. I just can't hear the difference on that machine with quarters and really have to split hairs with the 2nd disc. Not an issue with the concentric.
  16. So far comparing to the AT Pro. The AT has easier audio and better tone roll if run properly with proper iron discrim settings. The MK has incredible recovery speed. I think if I tone it down in the high trash it will be easier to use but still neither machine has the smoothness on tones as the Tejon here. Recovery speed helped me snipe out this clad and what looks like a part of a cuffling or button of some sorts. Looks like either cloisonné or enamel filled over copper. No sign of plating and all copper suggesting it may be fairly old. I still fall back on 3 tone for the most part and switch it to gen without tracking on just to get a good audio on size of targets if I need as that is similar to the Tejon pinpoint mode. The 9mm round was in the local park, looks like someone had shot it into the ground. Fun family place to hunt :0
  17. Blew off work for a little bit today, was too nice out so I hit local puddle and skimmed over the beach area. Found the machine runs good at 85 gain but can get a little chattery with the emi around. Depth wise I would flick on the EUD and see if I got a better hit or not. Running it at 19 kzh with SP vdi so i can get more numbers to tell what is trash. So far 3 tone seems to work good in high trash areas for me. I like how I can hear the bottle caps too, little trick I used to do on my AT Pro was to get the nose of the coil to the edge of the target and see if I got any iron grunt or not. Technique works very well on the MK as you can leave the iron audio on very low. At 19kzh it reminds me of the Tejon on how hard it hits bits of aluminum and lead. I tend to dig those anyways especially the faint ones as they could be braceletts or thin rings. I still find the Tejon much easier in really trashy areas with the 8x9 concentric as I'm so used to cherry picking ranges but getting used to the MK.
  18. When you say your soil is poor is it just heavy with iron? I run my Tejon in various grounds with both the 8x9 concentric and the 10x12 widescan. Ground balancing is much easier with the concentric but oddly the 10x12 did well at the beach, better than the concentric. I couldn't ground balance the 10x12 on damp sand so instead I tossed at 50% (1 1/2 turns from 0) and it didn't false out at all which surprised me even with the gain at max (not overload). Depth wise it would be similar to any other vlf out there. I would think the Vaquero would do well out there, maybe better in tougher ground with the same 10x12 dd. Tejon and Vaquero both have the HOT circuit for that extra punch. I don't know if the Lobo has the same or not.
  19. Bet your going back looking for that one that dropped, I know I would go nuts thinking about it. Doing great out there.
  20. In gen mode you may have trouble in high trash/hot rock areas as you need to use isat and tracking on. So what may happen is you might auto tune out small targets. I did try gen mode in an open field and do like it. For the most part I keep going back to 2 or 3 tone modes but that was in the woods with tons of nails. Some old foundations I briefly poked around. Weather supposed to be warming up here so I'll get more time in.
  21. Top one looks hand crafted and engraved. Pretty cool find.
  22. Did you try setting the vdi to SP mode by holding down the - & + buttons same time? At 19khz you will have more of a number range on the low conductors like pull tabs, square tabs etc. Seem the normal mode is based off of the 14 khz and uses same numbers of targets across all 3 frequencies. Lastly they say that running the gain above 80 slows the recovery speed? I think I'm too new to tell the difference on that.
  23. Welcome to the forums. Check the local want ads or craigs list for one?
  24. Got my MK in on Fri and got a couple hours in on it in some well worn grounds. The area has tons of iron and I have a couple suggestions. Toss on SP mode for the VID and set to 19 khz. Kick the disc to 6 or so. You may need to up the disc if the iron is bigger. SP mode runs a wider spread between the numbers as it reflects actual vid for the frequency rather than the standard same scale for all frequencies. It seems to make it easier to tell targets apart. If the ground varies a lot and coal and hot rocks an issue and they are too close to disc out then toss the machine in Gen mode and put on tracking 01. I actually love the gen mode on this machine, very smooth audio and can really hear the target size. Still lots to learn here but I have found an old 70's matchbox car, some clad, a small plated zinc jewelry box key (no box 😞 ) and a brass garden sprayer. Only issue I see with the dd on this is bottle caps so your 9" concentric will be great on those. Did a quick test on a 14 bracelet 1.7g and it hits it pretty good at 6" air test which is more than my AT Pro and similar or slightly more than the Tejon with 10x12. Can't wait to hit the local swim holes with this. I can't get over how deep that 7" dd goes.
