  1. Here are some closeups, has engraving inside st. james, think it was a school nearby but not sure. Ring was deep close to 12" down but beefy enough to hear it well on the 10x12.
  2. Got invited to pick through an older church grounds so I thought I would brush up on my skills with my Tejon over at the local park. Only spent about an hour and snagged this ring. Included is my trash. Set my 2nd disc to break on a degraded zincoln for quick reference.
  3. Here is some amplifiers. I have bought quite a bit from these guys and is a good company. Good support as well. https://www.jameco.com/shop/StoreCatalogDrillDownView?langId=-1&storeId=10001&catalogId=10001&freeText=audio%20amplifier&search_type=jamecoall
  4. Something inline on the audio cord seems like the best way to pursue it provided you can find the connectors. I am hesitant to start ripping a machine apart and whipping out the soldering gun but thats me, I'm gun shy.
  5. Not a bad day out. You should move the car to the good pile :(
  6. Can you reposition the control box and move it forward? On my Seahunter the 8" coil is neutral but when I use my 10x14 it is slightly boyant. Out of the water with control box just in front of my arm cuff it balences perfect, in the water it rises up and causes a strain on my wrist. I ended up putting a velcro arm strap that should help. If I plan on water only hunting I'll move the box in front of the handle.
  7. A volume control would be nice too. For batteries, have you checked out the off contact rechargables like they do with cell phones? This would allow you to completely encapsulate the board and make it truely waterproof.
  8. Nice finds. Ever see a 10x12 widescan for your Tejon it is worth a swing. Really good for relics and coins. Tejon still my favorite machine to use but my gb pot is wearing out :(
  9. Awesome tester. I know if I bought one I would never find another ring, same with a diamond tester lol
  10. That is a cool tester, how does it react on plated stuff? Really cool you found both ear rings.
  11. Will the needles stick to a magnet? Some stainless has too high nickel amount in them and won't stick. Just about any detector with a small coil should work fine.
  12. That Horihori trowel looks like a dagger, some states here prohibit double edge blades so that could be an issue. Gonna try my current digger, it is pretty compact and last time I got confronted was from a maintenance guy that thought I was leaving big holes until he saw what I was using and showed him where I dug (no holes) and he was kind enough to let me carry on. I am thinking more on a non marking digger that won't sound off on pinpointers. The plastic ones out there are pretty feable for turf but do have some ideas.
  13. Part of the big issue with digging in parks is appearance. I may be fine with my regular hand digger but looks even less formidable with an even smaller "pretty" digger. Walking around here with a screwdriver may not look so good either. There is the local college up the road from me where a buddy got tossed out with his spade shovel. There is also a city commons next town over that dates back to mid 1600's. I can always keep my larger digger in my pouch. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Did a quickie test in my yard and it does chip the patina off of copper as well as scratch them. Tested on some clad and clad dimes/quarters will have a brass mark but no gouge, nickels scratch slightly but fortunately the zincolns hole up well haha. I'll give it a whirl if anyone complains about my regular digger to see if it flies. At this size it is I might be able to try carbon fiber. Will have to see if that passes the scratch test.
  14. I was curious about brass and how it does against coins too, why I made this prototype. Will give it a try and worse thing I might ding up a zincoln or 2.
  15. Whipped up this little prototype for places that are really finicky about digging. figured I can make a sheath for it and just take my detector and pinpointer along. Thick brass blade so it doesn't ding the finds. Made for plucking stuff out of the turf, shallow recent drops. Thoughts?
  16. Found quite a bit of jewelry with my Tejon that is 17.5 khz? I would like to see a new AT mf with 10, 20, 30 & 40 khz with an all metal option.
  17. I would ask Nokta, could be just a bad pair of headphones. Shipping kills a lot of products, I had a coil that got mangled up.
  18. There some areas here I don't go to due to the homeless camps. Fortunately come this fall and winter they migrate south. You should check out some the woods hunting. I see in your list you have an Orx, be a very nice machine for that. Look for modern hiking trails and off those you may notice old hunting trails usually thin with hard pack dirt. Majority of my old coins come from the woods.
  19. It could be the connector on the headphones. Check them for any visual damage like bent pins or kink in the wire. Waterproof headphones as bad as they sound, sound better than your regular headphone if they go in the drink.
  20. That's one heavy ring. Poor bugger probably drowned wearing it 😮 Congrats!
  21. That is normal for the Nokta waterproof headphones needing to be on highest level because of the piezo speaker. Audio is similar to my Garrett waterproof headphones as well. Did you ever experience any crackling sound if you had the control box under water? Thinking the connection might not have been water tight and something might have been damaged. You may want to contact Nokta for repairs. I use a small dab of silicone grease around the green plastic edge on the connectors on my MK and use the same grease on my other machines o-rings. Patroleum jelly works fine too.
  22. New Garrett Apex might be a good way to start. Garrett machines are stable and very easy to use. If you looking to get into the water where the control box gets submerged then detectors such as the Equinox, Kruzers and Amphibios are nice but prices go up once you add the water proof headphones and scoops.
  23. Was it iron or bronze? Guy was telling me he and his dad found a ship signal cannon diving off the shore where I was detecting. Not very big but was bronze and weight over 200 lbs. They had a hell of a time bringing it back. Think it sits in a museum now. Came across some sea cables last time water hunting in the river. Wondered if I hit it with my scoop if the lights would go out on the other side of town 🙂
  24. Being 12" wide it has a slight edge on depth over 11 round stock coils. For people with the Amphibio or Kruzer series, this could should prove to be much easier to swing in the water as the stock Nokta coils have ribs that make them tough to move in water. The Amphibio/Kruzer 11" coil weigh in at 540g. Now if they actually show up in the USA for those machines and they actually have one that is compatible to the Multi machines time will tell.
