  1. Jim,many thanks for your reply, that all makes alot of sense, will probably keep the 7.5'' DF coil on the TDI and also carry the Coiltek 14x9 on a spare full stem for a quick change over when i require some additional depth and coverage.
  2. I have a question regarding Whites DF coils on the TDI Pro or 'sl' and other variations,i am aware the difference between say a DD and Mono coils etc,but how would the experts describe the DF coils as in the stock and 7.5'' DF coils are these classes as 2 Mono coils within one another or have i got this completely wrong. As far as i can tell both the inner and outer coils within the coil case operate complete independent from one another, anyone have knowledge on how one would describe these DF coils,of course i could be totally wrong and would like some help from the electronic whizzkids 🙂 Many thanks
  3. Gerry, outstanding article,i can see that the small 6'' coil snagged the gold nuggets but what interested me more was the amazing ring haul was that also snagged with the 6'' coil as well or the 11'' coil. The 6'' coil never comes off my Nox and although in theory the UK is not renown for gold nuggets but beach detecting is still a favourite pastime for many folks who live near the coast,as i live so far inland beach detecting is very infrequent for me,but as we are slowly being allowed back out again after strict lockdown regulations then i may take the Equinox and small coil back down to my fresh water ford crossing which has always been a haven for mums and kids during the summer months and yes you get it the young mums have grannies old high value lump of ice on her pinkies and they fall off into the cold water. The rings that i have found most have been handed back but some have been lost maybe decades ago and the owners or next of kin have moved away. Once again great article.
  4. Jim,the Sadie was always on my Radar here in the UK as so many good reports about it but as its not a common use coil as such because of the lack of nuggets they are rarer than 'rocking horse poo' and the cost of shipping one over is crazy high. But i do have a 7.5'' DF coil which i have had since i bought the TDI Pro but only used it may be twice, but as its mounted on its own bottom rod i changed it over onto the Pro and what a pleasure it is to use, light as a feather but it could well stay on the machine ongoing. We especially in England have had some pandemic laws slightly relaxed as from the 13th May so this will allow us to go out again and do some pastimes including detecting but not in large groups etc, only say on ones own permission and if its totally fine with the land owner. But it may well be the ideal time to try the TDI Pro out with my substitute Sadie coil the 7.5'' DF coil lol. Nearly all my many machines and rest assured at last count i had 25 detectors are mainly running smaller coils these days in the 5-7'' coil size, the largest current everyday coil that i use almost everyday is my Deus HF elliptical one,all my others Nox are running 6'' coils. Thanks again for the input and your thoughts about using smaller coils on the TDI,batteries are all on charge as will be out detecting for the 1st time in a couple of months on my own permission/s with full blessing from the the landowners.
  5. I have never used the 'sl' TDI version so cannot really give a opinion, but i do own what was possibly the very last TDI Pro that came into the UK,it will never be used for nugget hunting but was mainly bought for relic/artifact/hoard hunting and its ability to use not only the stock coils ie 7.5'' and 12'' DF which i own both, but also after market specifically designed coils and also GPX Mono coils which can be bought brand new very cheaply and this option is the one i use the most. Also the same time that i purchased the TDI Pro i also bought a brand new backup battery as well as i could see the batteries 'possibly' becoming harder to find because of transportation issues, but as long as i keep them both in tip top condition i cannot personally see me every having issues with them, long time users of many years standing are still using the original ones without any issues and also i guess it may well be possible if ever needed to get one rebuilt. Favourite combination coil wise is the Coiltek 14x9 Mono the main reason its ultra lightweight and also the 10x5 folded mono made by Miner John and for really deep hoard hunting the 18'' Detech mono and 20'' Jimmy Sierra Mono coil.
  6. Gerry,i forgot to mention that i do own and use a Hipstick as well especially on say a big heavy rig like a TDI Pro with a 20'' Mono,so thanks for that suggestion about the Swing Arm. In one of your other posts you mention about using the Horseshoe on 'most' of the time with a decent threshold as well, that is also what i found was deadly on the Equinox as well. Thanks again for your tips and tricks.
  7. Gerry, outstanding article, although in theory here in the UK we dont nugget hunt as such, but we do of course have other very desirable gold objects ie artifacts, coins and jewellery and yes the Equinox is more that capable and probable the best non PI detector for the job. Mine is basically only ever used with the 6'' coil these days, mainly because of the results of a couple of bike accidents back in the 70s,when i do use the larger coils on not only the Nox but any machine i have to use a full GPX harness as that is the only way that i can detect. Thanks again for a terrific read and the images.
  8. Its a amazing bit of kit in theory, but i doubt that its cheap but surely one must be able to buy a similar but much cheaper option online ??
  9. Regis, decent video, will look forward to when you get out again on the Thames foreshore as that is of some great interest as i have never done that before.Have all the gear for larking but no idea 😀. Well done,i have a decent size garden that i could detect but my wife would not be all that happy about it,so just confined on my decent size test garden lol.
  10. I had 2 Honda ST70 monkey bikes brand new back in 1972/3 tremendous fun and ultra reliable, wish i had never sold them as they are very desirable these days.
  11. Glad you did not get injured, this may seem like a stupid question and folks will probably laugh at me but what the hell is a 'Rokon' and what the hell is a 'Gila Monster' because i ain't got a clue 🙂
  12. Never used a Vanquish,so cannot give a specific reply, but irrespective of what ever machine i use i would never solely make a decision to dig just by what a TID on a screen tells me.Audio is so much more reliable and also at greater depth as well.If a detector gives some sort of a audio signal even if i am not sure about it has to come out that way i wont miss anything decent. Unless its for a specific project then i would dig everything and certainly never rely on a screen.
  13. Well done on closing the spammers door, actually its been around for a long time,i was a moderator years ago on both a big US and UK websites as well as owning my own.It was not uncommon for new members to join and look as if they are respectable new members but after a while they also use to go back onto older posts and amend them with live links back to other websites. Its was and possibly still is the case of SEO and building backlinks from high profile website like 'detectorprospector' the main aim was to gain backlinks from high profile PR sites as that was often seen as the holy grain of getting your new website higher up the rankings. A few years back Google for what ever reason decided that they no longer want to use the 'Page Ranking' system so although its still not use as much the still try many methods both legit and not so legit.
  14. Outstanding finds and great pictures, not good news when you have a close encounter with a snake though. Well done
  15. I have never used that specific made Coiltek coil on my TDI Pro but i do use a Coiltek 14x9 mono and that stays on the detctor almost all the time,i will highlight the fact that mine is the 'non' Whites TDI version but the GPX version which 'does' work straight out the box on the Whites TDI and they work very well as most of my coils that i own for this detector are the cheaper and easily available GPX coils. The other main coil that i also use is the Minelab GPX 15x12 mono coil, that is slightly on the heavy side but i only use it for special occasions on say pasture sites, but got most of my large GPX mono coils dirt cheap brand new for the same price as say one specially made for the TDI range. For real large targets ie coke can size and above i use a 18'' Detech GPX coil, that once again i bought brand new for peanuts as most folks want DD coils for the GPX,but work exceptionally well for my needs on the TDI Pro.
  16. Steve, some excellent information, thanks for the link. Absolutely love my TDI Pro and wont ever part with it,it does take a little while to tame it but well worth it in the end.
  17. Would be interesting to see if you could get your hands on a Nexus with a similar coil and do a side by side test !! that would be interesting, just my opinion of course but i feel the Nexus could just have the slight edge as its ability to increase power into the coil.Of course i cannot confirm or deny that but that is the advantage of the Nexus machines that i use is that both the SE and MP especially the latter the increase in voltage is what i feel the machine is all about, very similar to the old Nautilus detectors but even higher voltage i think.
  18. Interesting video although one could not fully understand the text but have a good idea from the audio, not sure what size coil that is but it looks similar to the dual 9'' coil that i use on my Nexus SE and would think although i have never done a similar test would think they would perform the same.Of course the Nexus with the large coil is mainly for extreme depth on large targets and never really found the real depth of the machine but on hoard/artefact size items then that is when these machines earn ones keep. Also have the Nexus MP with a selection of coils which can be used for both detecting small single small items right upto large haord container size targets. What size double 00 coil is that on the Predator ??is that the large coil that you can use or can you also use larger ones as well ?? on the Nexus SE the largest if i recall is the dual 20'' coil but that is a specialist use coil for real deep military/hoard targets. Well done on the video.
  19. If the site is littered with non desirable targets ie iron etc then possible the best way forward would be by using the smaller 6'' coil and swing methodically slow and low. On some of my sites which have alot of nails and other habitational rubbish a small coil is the best combination,i would use Park 1 or 2 and use AM mode and dig everything over 2 that way you wont miss anything decent.,but in trashy site situations small coils in my mind are the only way forward.
  20. Steve, outstanding information and that is basically exactly what i am looking for.only thing that slightly concerns me doing this is how the coax cable will stand upto constantly moving but will give it a go and will update you. Tremendous help and advice as usual.
  21. As the title suggests i am after one of the chest harness's for the TDI Pro that was made by Jimmy Sierra, alas i missed the opportunity to buy one when he had his closing down sale. Its a very slim chance that i will locate one but always worth a try,i am of course open for other suggestions and other makes but not aware of other specific chest harness's for the TDI Pro. If anyone has one or can direct me in the right direct or even a alternative option it would be most welcome. Many thanks
  22. As usual outstanding and useful information,i have never used the 'sl' version but i do own and use my TDI Pro,mainly use it with small coils and i totally agree with what you have mentioned about smaller foot print and the ability to GB the machine better and quicker.I also have much larger mono coils ie upto 18'' and 20'' for deep relic hunting, albeit the larger coils rarely come out to play but i bought them brand new when Jimmy Sierra closed down his website a few years back and got a selection of brand new larger coils for basically the same price as what i could pay for a much smaller coil and even that was including shipping and all taxes to the UK as well.
  23. Jim,some terrific finds, still have and use my DFX which was one of the 1st batch here in the UK,still one of my all time favourite detectors and given me 1000s of hours of enjoyment, although i have a large collection of coils for the detector the main 2 that i use are the 10x6 like yourself and also for depth the 12'' Hotshot concentric coil but never been a fan of the stock coil. Wont ever part with it but it has always found me some terrific finds over the years and after my T2 has found me the most gold coinage, slightly on the heavy side so dont use it as much these days. That US plate thingy looks interesting !!
