  1. Absolutely brilliant video, thoroughly enjoyed it,not only was it superbly made but you could tell from it Steve's passion and honesty was amazing.......one of the best videos that i have seen for a very long time. Thank you for producing the video and thanks again to Steve for sharing your passion.
  2. Have been watching these stocks and gold in generally,i feel that most of the current activity of price rises is due to the uncertainty because of the current Pandemic and gold has always been seen a relatively safe haven in situations like we are currently in.
  3. Will follow your progress with this machine, interesting to see how it performs on roman sites, certainly has something magic about it,but i will still wait for folks who have many ours of UK time under the belt before i would even think about pulling the trigger on one. They do sound interesting machines and always willing to add space in my man cave for another machine.Trouble is i am running out of space as as i all ready have a obscene amount of detectors that cover almost all my needs. Will certainly be following this post Dave on your progress.
  4. A very good video, must admit i have never had any problems with bottle caps as such as i think most caps would be found on the beach and because i live so far inland and only detect farm land,so bottle caps are a rarity for me and cannot recall the last time i dug one up.Ring pulls are also not a problem as such either probably dig up just say a couple a year if that. I guess its the location that you detect in that dictates bottle caps and pulltabs,if you detect near or on beaches and high traffic areas like parks etc then the amount of caps and pulltabs will be so much higher than say in the middle of a 100 acre field right out in the sticks. Shotgun caps, roman nails from hobnail boots and military buttons by the 1000s that we find on alot of fields are our biggest problems i guess and the biggest problem in recent years is 'green waste' its when farmer get paid to spread what we are told is organic waste and that is spread over fields, this is so far from the truth as it often has highly toxix waste like chopped up pcb board, medical waste including needles and other non desirable items as well and many a decent high productive field has been rendered useless as every few inches metal waste triggers the detector off and you cannot detect the decent stuff hidden underneath the waste. You folks across the pond have problems with bottle caps and pulltabs but we have the green waste issues.
  5. Gunnar, some great finds, although i dont own a Orx i have used one a few times but my main machine is the Deus and has been for many years but the elliptical coil on is a deadly combination on trashy roman/saxon sites that are littered with the nails from the hob nails from the romans shoes. Target separation is amazing with the ultra fast recovery from the XP machines, well done on some great finds.
  6. I bought one of the 15'' coil brand new for £60 which at the time seemed a remarkable bargain, but after just 1hrs use its the biggest load of rubbish i have ever bought coil wise for my T2,a couple of my favourite artifact hoard hunting coils that i use on the T2 are my SEF15x12 for its size that pretty lightweight, gives great depth, ground coverage but also still found me some single silver hammered coins at depth. The other large coil that i also use is the BIG NEL 17x15 that punches deep but mainly on golfball size object and above but it is very deep but slightly on the heavier side hence why i prefer the SEF 15x12 coil as its so much lighter. The SEF15x12 coil when used on the T2 in AM mode gives great depth and often my main pasture machine after the Nexus MP and 14'' coil. A couple of other machines that i also use for real deep hoard/artefact hunting is my Fisher TW-5 twin box and the TDI Pro with either the 18'' Mono or 20'' Mono coils on,but the deepest by a miles and that is of course subject to the size of the target is the Fisher TW-5 twin, the larger the target the deeper it goes its rarely used but for the price i paid for it almost new makes it worth my while keeping it in my massive array of detector and coils.
  7. I took my GSP (Germany Shorthaired Pointer) out with me once and she was a total nightmare, all she wanted to do is chase the rabbits and pigeons so did not get much detecting done that day,so she stays at home with the wife while i go detecting.
  8. The only real one that seems to do a decent job is the Nokta/Makro Invenio Pro.
  9. Sven,a terrific write up about this unusual machine, must admit it sounds exactly like both my Nexus machine, this is just from reading your initial review and also from my observations as well that although these have amazing depth and most folks tend too run them almost flat out but then the machines run very erratic as well. Like your i have multiply large coils for this type of machine but the best results in not only hitting small target as well as larger deep targets but the smaller 8x6 DD coil at 'minimum' sensitivity gives me amazing depth and the machines run as smooth as silk.No question about it these are deep machines but not as daunting or un-reliable as most previous owner have found them and sold them on at a massive loss. A great read as usual.
  10. Tony the only thing that was changed and i will admit it was not me that changed it but the coil plug was changed so that it worked with my 'original' Crossbow Pulse, the designer and builder of just 13 Crossbow machines was George Overton who with Carl own Geotech1 forum,i bought the coil beand new from a Dealer who had a sale here in the UK,i approached George asking if this Mono coil would work and the challenge was accepted. He changed the coil plug which is basically straight forward after working out which terminals to use on the plug, one other thing i will highlight that he also did was i think he added some resistor just inside the control box which connected to the terminal this was so that the coil and control box could wok together in harmony for a better way of putting.I could find the exact details and calculations that George Overton used and the exact same alterations had been done when he also got the 14x9 SeaHunter coil up and running as well.......both work exceptionally well but my favourite is the the small 8'' SeaHunter Mono coil. If you need any other help/advice or what ever dont be afraid to ask,i mainly use the Crossbow Pulse as a hoard/relic hunter as the design of this machine was originally made for depth on largish items rather than say fine timings for small gold jewellery. For small gold items i use my TDI Pro and especially my Mirage Pulse with a small 5.5'' Mono coil which i also did at one time have on my Crossbow.
  11. Must admit i have never used the WS4 headphones, only headphones i use are the WS5 full cup ones which i use about 95% of the time as i want to cut out as much external noise as a can,on occasions when its really hot and dont want sweaty ears i use a set of over the ear Sennheiser wired headphones direct into the control box.Very light weight and at least you dont have horrible ears after a long days detecting. Was out all day yesterday and boy oh boy was it hot and yest i forgot the small headphones so only had the Full cup WS5 heaphones and was not a pleasant experience for sure.
  12. I use the 8'' Garrett Mono coil on my 'Crossbow' pulse works exceptionally well, also have the 14x9 coil as well, both work well but the 8'' is my favourite out of the 2.Very good depth and also good for smaller targets like jewellery etc.
  13. All my LF coils have the internal battery in the coil case but my HF elliptical does have the external battery in the bottom rod which if i am honest i like the latest setup works exceptionally well. Well done on getting your new Orx
  14. Cannot recall off the top of my head what the stock dual 9'' coil is but almost certain its something like 6.8khz,its because of this low freq its ability to go deeper on say pastures site, they also did dual 6'' coils as well for this machine and this is the one that i have always wanted but never found one,i think Georgie mentioned that the mk11 dual coil would work but would need the coil plug changed over as one is a push fit and the mk11 is a screw fit. All my coils for the MP model are low freq DD coils the only one that is a HF coil is my 11.5'' Concentric coil which runs @24khz,that coil is ultra lightweight and thinner than some mobile phones.Mainly use the SE with the large coil for say pasture and relic/hoard hunting and the MP with the 8x6'' DD coil for normal ploughed and rolled, its a small coil but does goes deep for its size, the main reason being that you dont as such get problems that you normally get with large coils from the ground matrix.......i rarely if ever use my larger coils on the MP as i dont personally like them. They are aimed or seen as more of a specialist detector brand rather than say the everyday use detector,i use it mainly for waht it was designed for pure raw depth and that is the only time i use them really on deep pasture.
  15. Thats a decent YT video,as we are allowed back out again for the most part in the UK will be detecting both saturday and sunday so will probably take my Deus and the Nexus SE with the dual 9'' coil on,its a very unusual analogue detector but must admit it does work exceptionally well once you have mastered it,its phenomenally deep and still pretty good on smaller targets as well. The other Nexus i have and use is the latest analogue Nexus MP that is more complicated setting it up and once again does take time, but i have had mine possibly 4 years and have finally mastered it,most folks give up after a short time duration and sell these machines at a loss, but once the penny finally drops they are 'ultra deep' possibly hitting GPX depth territory and with the large 30'' and even 40'' coils on could possibly go even deeper and of course it has the full discrimination which the GPX is more rudimentary.Of course this is just my personal opinion. Once again well done on your video and look forward to seeing some more.
  16. A nice find, the 6'' coil it stays on my detector 95% of the time, its extremely light and because its so small as we are approaching harvest time soon in the UK you need a small coil to get in between the stubble rows and this is when this small coil really earns its keep. For its size its also pretty deep as well, also use it in AM mode but for me i prefer Field1 it just suits my sites better. Well done
  17. I would also take the Equinox over the ATX,the ATX is a heavy old beast and not very popular here in the UK,infact i have only ever seen 1 being used, but i do see 100s of Equinox's being used for inland, fresh and salt water its that versatile.
  18. I had read that getting a licence is both pretty hard and expensive and with alot of caveats attached as well,i can fully understand about them being protective of such sites like viking etc.You guys do have alot of interesting history very much like us here in the UK,although we do have some detecting guidelines that we need to adhere too at least we can detect. Well done and hope you find a decent detector and find that viking gold hoard.
  19. Welcome to the forum,is detecting actually allowed in Sweden ?? i am aware that you do require a special licence to detect and even then that does have some clauses attached on what you can or cannot do.
  20. Outstanding finds and well done to the finder, was that found with the 11'' or 6'' coil on the Equinox ??
  21. I cannot offer real advice about approaching home owners as its not really the done thing here in the UK,all my personal permissions which are farmland have been gained through the 'word of mouth' method. If you show that initial farmer/landowner that you are responsible and respect the land and fill those all important holes in,also one vital think is make the offer of showing them what you have found. Once you have gained the trust from the 1st land owner this could be just say a small field or parcel of land this could lead to large acreage that you had not been aware of that they owned.Land owners/Farmer are a very close knit family and once you have gained the trust this more than often leads to many more permissions as well.Of course this close knit network can also work the other way as well, you leave gates open and possibility of animals escaping and leave massive holes so that animals/livestock couls get injured you can also loose that trust and loose alot of permissions. Apart from one initial face to face meeting years and years ago,all my land that i can detect on which is a fair amount has always been gained from the 'word of mouth' method. Good luck and hope you find some places to detect on.
  22. Thats a nice setup that you have made,i carry all mine in the boot as us Brits call it lol, mine is always covered up in the rear of my 4x4 and out of sight of possible thieving scumbags looking for another fix.I have a substantial amount tied up in detectors and also all the equipment but if it was stolen then although covered by insurance i doubt that i would get the true value back. My reasoning is that if i am say on one of my permissions i park up and could walk prehaps15-20 minutes to the field/s that i am detecting on,it only takes some nosey person to look through the window and see some expensive equipment laying 'uncovered' in the back of the tuck and it would be gone in seconds.Hence the reason i keep everything covered,of course if someone want to break in and look around then they would of course find them. But always better to take some precations.
  23. Steve, thanks very much for that quote,it does mean alot for sure,as this was a Equinox thread/post i only basically mention how i use my Nox. But as it was also i guess covering small target/s like say small gold chains and other small gold items in general,i will also mention how i use my main everyday machine the Deus, how its setup with some of the settings and how i also use it.I use solely the HF elliptical coil running 80khz all the time on farmland, and as you have been over to the UK our main targets that we are after are the silver hammered coins both full and cut halves and quarters and you can relate to how small these are, celtic gold hammered coins are even more sort after. So this is why i run my HF elliptical coil in 80khz this is basically the territory of the ' It's a great coil as the old famous Gold Bug ran less than 80khz, and was revered for it's gold finding capabilities' and as most of our finds are in the top say 8'' of soil then i hardly miss much. My style of detecting over the last few years has become so slow and methodical that even snails have over taken my swing speed,i also go that slow that it looks like as if my shoe laces are tied together, but it works for me,methodical swing speeds and slow forward motion are the key as my finds rate has just exploded and just by doing a few simple changes in not only settings but also how i use the detector as aswell. In a previous post i mentioned that i basically run my sensitivity on my Nox down to say 14-15,i rarely mention how low i go with my Deus as folks often think i am joking but most folks run the Deus at 90+or- but on average mine is run down as low as 55-60 as the norm and even on bad ground down to 40-45,folks may disagree with me on this one but it works for me.
  24. Thats a very nice and unusual find, those types of coin memorabilia had been pretty popular back in the 70s as we have a couple of them, they had been given to workers of big corporations to commemorate major milestones in the companies history like say 100 years that type of thing. The couple that we have had been given by family and friends and stuck in draws or boxes, they also had US coinage i am assuming with the date that the company or institution key dates like say 100 years from 1875-1975 of course coins from the 1800s are hard to get in bulk, but you could buy rolls of these new coins and keep them nice an shiny by preserving them in that acrylic and it was the in thing at the time, did not cost alot too make and kept the coins like new, often made for paper weights that type of thing. Once again well done on a unusual to see find these days.
  25. No two identical settings will provide the same results, the main time and targets that i guess i would use this type of combination and also targets would be slightly more biased towards coins and gold artifacts rather than small or micro jewellery.Gold hammered coins like celtic gold staters which the 1/4 staters are relatively small but not as small as say a gold ear stud or that size item. Also as i detect mainly farmland or inland in general gold jewellery ie chains etc are certainly harder to find than say on a beach location or swim hole,so the bias is more towards gold coinage both hammered which are the most desirable of targets rather than say a gold milled coin but of course coins are going too be slightly easier than say gold chains especially 'fine' gold chains. It all depends on what you are aiming for target wise and anything that can slightly increase the odds in your favour must be better than say random chance,as we all hunt different targets the main denominator is of course 'gold' but hunting for gold nuggets in Aussie land or Arizona is vastly different to say other gold jewellery or gold coinage. Certainly a very interesting topic that we can all learn from.
