flakmagnet
Had a friend raise an interesting theory; why didn't ML come up with x-type coils for the 7000 and instead is letting NuggetFinder come up with them? They thought it pretty much confirmed that it means ML is readying a new version/upgraded GPZ-type machine, lighter weight, better ergonomics, up-to-date electronics etc. There certainly is no reason to think this weightlifters detector will remain the way it is when, as Steve and others have been saying, there are lighter, more compact, real world usable detectors out there now (QED for one). Thoughts?

Thoughts? 100% correct FM... the prototype new version Z machine was mentioned to several dealers at the last Minelab dealers conference earlier this year. Expect to see it written on the next investors statement in 2020. If the hype is only 50% correct, we will see a mad rush similar to the SD2000 days.

Not one has mentioned hearing what you posted. Do you have a link to a written statement showing the above remarks?

Thoughts? Id go with that theory Flak. This beast of a 7000 was fun for awhile, but I sure look forward to a lightweight edition. Our backs cant take this much longer!

It would mean 'Death of a Thousand cuts' for a Minelab dealer to put that in writing anywhere.....its major no-no on a biblical scale. Apparently a small group of Oz dealers 'surrounded' an un-named ML exec at the dealers conference and asked if the 7000 was to be replaced 'soon'... a 'yes' was offered, along with an undisclosed timeline. The 7000 is overdue to be replaced and sales of the 7000 have declined as practically everyone who could possibly afford such a ridiculous price now has one. The exec said that the price for the new unit will be even more ridiculous but that it has truly amazing capabilities based on current testing of the prototypes. Ive heard this 'rumor' via 2 of those Oz dealers now...same story so there's some truth to it.
WesD
I sure hope only half that rumor is true.
mn90403
My rumor source would discount the super high price detector in development in favor of a high sales volume unit which will help to keep the dealer network thriving. It would be extremely hard to sell a detector weighing half the weight of a 7000 for twice as much money! I'll buy a better coil for my 7000 in that case. This is where having a coil aftermarket could impact a new detector release.
fredmason
Two people or a million saying the same thing does not make it true!

So to get twice as much money it would need to be twice the weight?
