For those of you who have had some time with both detectors, what day you…is the Deus 2 a replacement for Deus 1 in iron infested sites? Is it still to early to tell?

I would say that the D2 is even better than the D1 in the irons  , especially when using for example the SENSITIVE mode.  The D2 electronics is more recent and probably much faster than the one used in the D1 ...

I agree Chase,  I have been surprised by the D2 11" coil too ...  It performs very well in the iron trash for such a big coil , then I guess that the 9" will be a killer  ... 🙂

I don’t have enough time to state with any certainty, but what I have seen so far leads me to a similar conclusion. The Deus II was designed to have an edge on the Deus original in terms of speed and sophistication of programs. I believe that was the goal of XP and I think they largely succeeded.

I’m glad to hear this as I’m committed to purchasing one out of the next shipment. I don’t want to have a nagging feeling I should’ve bought the Deus 1 or ORX instead. I think the Deus 2 will really round out my collection nicely by the looks and sounds of things.

IMO D2 does just as good as D1 in iron infested sites and I am using the 11" coil!  I can't wait to get my hands on a 9" coil and am hoping XP wakes up and comes out with a D2 variant of the 9x5 elliptical coil to close the deal.

I am hesitant to jump on any of the lists because I'm not sure which coil to get. If I knew for sure that they were going to make a 5x9, then I would go for the 11". If there is definitely NOT going to be a 5x9, then I would wait for a 9". I wish XP would make an official statement on the 5x9 coil availability.

Well, when asked about a small elliptical, XP says there are too many technical hurdles associated with the size of the D2 internal coil electronics and battery (they prefer the coil to be self contained with no external battery, unlike the white HF coils. I suppose so they can declare the coil dive rated).  Seems that's their position today.  They can always change their mind down the road.  In this situation, the only time you can be almost certain of their future intentions is if they actually announced they were going to provide a small elliptical as an accessory.  As it stands, getting your hands on a 9" coil either as part of a D2 package or standalone before mid-to-late summer is a somewhat remote proposition.

The 9" is by far the coil the most often used on the D1 for inland hunting, at least over here in France  , then I guess it will the same with the D2...

For the beach it may be different , beach hunters probably prefer the 11" coil because it goes deeper and there are less irons than inland .. However I am not a beach specialist ...

My little D2 experience makes me think that it’s better than D1 in every aspect. For example general speed and iron masking talking about iron infested sites. Generally much deeper and really another planet on mineralized soils. By the way I have the 11” and think that with 9” it’s very very fast and accurate. I used a 9” with D1 but I stupidly sold it years ago..

I am a  full time beach hunter and I had the D1 a few years ago.  It wasn’t nearly up to the challenge of a salt water environment so I sold it.  I now have the D2 and it is far and away much better.  In fact, It’s a great beach machine.  So in my case, the answer to your question is a definite yes…the D2 is a most welcomed replacement for the D1 on the beach.

Just the view from my beachy foxhole.
