  1. Past hour
  2. I started to get bummed out reading the replies from the first page on, very happy to see Garrett has a bunch of spare parts available for the Axiom. From coil bolts and washers to skid plates, and the two pieces of the CF shaft. I went over and purchased a couple bolts, a coil cover, and a lower CF rod for my spare coil to swap out. They’re running a nice Father’s Day discount promo this weekend too (FD15 is the coupon code). Here’s the Axiom specific parts: https://garrett.com/store/?s=Axiom Upper CF stem assembly: https://garrett.com/store/axiom-middle-stem-assembly-spare/?s=Axiom Upper Clamp Assembly: https://garrett.com/store/axiom-upper-stem-clamp-assembly/?s=Axiom Lower CF stem: https://garrett.com/store/axiom-lower-stem-assembly-spare/?s=Axiom Lower Clamp Assembly https://garrett.com/store/axiom-lower-stem-clamp-assembly/?s=Axiom Oddly the skid plates have prices that don’t make sense, with the 11 x 7 costing more than the 11 x 13. They’re on the main page under the first link above, I won’t link them individually since I think the prices may be an oversight by the site designer. Thanks everyone for keeping tabs on this.
  3. The fact that the MUU isn't even seeing the 900 is serious. You seem to have done all the troubleshooting and recovery. Did it include trying a different USB port? (both front and back if possible). Otherwise, time to contact a Minelab service center.
  4. I just switched over to the 9 from the 8 and have approximately 60 hours on it, in and out of the saltwater, Florida beaches. I can definitely run the 8 inch about 2 to 3 sensitivity points higher in and out of the water. The 9 still alerts to the micro small stuff. It seems I am getting more chatter on the beach but probably because of an increase in swing speed versus being submerged. I don't feel there is a measurable difference how either one glides while in the water. I actually thought the 9 would cut through better because of its design but to me it does not. For separation of multiple targets clustered together the 8 wins.
  5. Yeah, I'm not happy at all. I've tried everything from hard reset on the laptop to going to the update file and doing the whole properties, compatibility, run as administrator yadda yadda yadda....Minelabs own recovery instructions do absolutely nothing. I've worked on this for about 3 hours and I'm at a total loss.
  6. Today
  7. Tried it today now I have a non-functioning detector. Lost power half way through the update, now unit powers on with blank screen, no sound, and when I reload the update file and open the MUU and connect the unit to go through the recovery steps, the MUU does not even recognize the unit. Screen just stays on "Connect a device to check for updates"....nothing happens the unit just sits there with a blinking green light, blank screen, and no sound. At a loss....
  8. That totally sucks! I would call Minelab as soon as possible.. Keep us posted
  9. I have the 9 as well as the 8. Although I'm not in the gold fields I am looking for gold every time I go to the beach, whether it's a fine broken chain or a 1 oz ring. I have recently switched to the 9 inch and do notice I cannot run my sensitivity as high as the 8. About 3 points lower with the 9. The wet salt sand produces more blow back/ noise with the 9. I am using it primarily because it is covering more ground with every sweep and with lots of people on the beach and in the water at this time of year I'm concentrating more on fresh drops. I would think that in any gold fields that are heavily mineralized, the same conditions I am experiencing here would be the same there.
  10. Title say it all, tried to do the update today, lost power halfway through. Try to turn unit on and the green light comes on and stays on, but the screen is blank and there is no sound. Plug the charging cord in and the green light blinks as it does when charging, and apparently took a full charge. I went through the recovery steps over a dozen times, but after the power loss the MUU will not recognize the unit when i plug it in. The MUU screen stays on "Connect a device". while this is happening the green light constantly flashes but nothing ever happens. I have deleted and re-downloaded the the update file over a dozen times and followed the steps to the letter on how to recover the unit but the screen just stays blank while the green light flashes away, and no sound at all. Tried factory re-set, that does nothing as well. Im at a total loss....any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
  11. Yesterday
  12. Somebody in Edmonton years ago, swept up a pile of sand left over from the winter roads. He ran it through his clean-up sluice and of course did find some flour gold. It got in the newspaper, with the quote "See, Edmonton's streets really are paved with gold." I have often times been tempted to repeat his scenario. Now that I am fully retired, I just might attempt it.
  13. Actually they do have wash plants to get as much gold as they can. These places are all gravel pits, which up until about 30 years ago did not extract any gold. The sand purchased had already gone through a wash plant of sorts. This is what they missed.
  14. That guy pushing in the truck bed is demonstrating the power of negative energy. I'd be more concerned about the person that needs a circle to notice that guy 😁
  15. Where can I see them? Perhaps someone here on the forum has bought an Elite and can say something about it?
  16. Performed the same simple peach tree coil knock tests on the Legend LG15 6 inch coil mounted on the Simplex plastic lower shaft. First test with just the coil without a shaft, second coil mounted on the lower shaft. Unfortunately, the LG15 is equal to the LG24 for poor coil knock. Both Nokta coils are good for coin size targets & relics but not so much for brushy hillside gold prospecting. The Makro Gold Racer with 5” coil wins with the ML EQX900 with the Nox 6” a tight second for hillside gold prospecting. However, the Nokta Legend Beast Mode 2nd ground balance does breaks up the hot rocks. I really like the EQX900 horseshoe button plus the new firmware update with the -1 iron bias. Looks like I am in the market for a new non-CF lower shaft for the Minelab EQX900.
  17. Garrett will have to drop the price of the Ace Apex ($499 US with wireless headphones) in order to have a competitive Vortex price structure compared to Nokta's Score and Legend series.
  18. Nokta released the Legend, it's about as close to an Equinox as you can get without being an Equinox, now the 900's out they're even more similar as Nokta went a few steps ahead in some areas of the 800 so Minelab fought back a bit releasing a closer to the Legend 900 🙂 The extra ID's, the carbon *cough cough* shaft, the better waterproofing... All Legend traits. The Legends probably the best selling detector on the market right now, why? It's not the best, it can't keep up with a Manticore or Deus 2, ,but it's priced right, great value for what you get. Garrett either have to have their own version of a Deus 2 or Manticore which we would all love and want to buy, or if they're in Equinox territory they need to price it right, as in Legend pricing would be ideal for peak sales. If they do that, they'll be successful, two cars, exact same performance, different manufacturers, why pick one over the other? Brand preference. Garrett has a really strong customer base that like Garrett because they're Garrett, made in the US of A! That should be enough to make it a hit detector for them, not for everybody but for them and their customer base it will do well, and keep them in the game. Just don't be greedy Garrett, keep that price reflecting performance based upon competitors pricing, especially Nokta.
  19. where in the heck are you coming up with 827 updates LOL it has had 10 or 11 updates if you count all the Beta test versions and then one update of hardware adding a new carbon fiber mid shaft and new arm cuff design, i do not personally count the updates that were done prior to release to all of us
  20. That dust cover they came out with is crap it moves around to much and half the time you end up pushing the wrong button on the Legend with that dust cover on, i used one on my Legend for about 10 minutes and removed it because of never knowing whether you were pushing the button you were intending on pushing
  21. Garrett needs to produce a machine that people want to use in lieu of everything else that's available. I personally don't want to hear about another low or mid priced metal detector. The market is flooded with them already. So many have been released in the past 2 years I don't even pay attention to them anymore. If Garrett wants to remain a viable competitor, mediocre won't do at this point. It's got to have something that sets it apart from the competition.
  22. NOT IN THE DREAMWIND CANYON JOURNAL : These posts are the result of a conversation with a man named Clint Storm (name slightly altered at his request). I have his permission to write about his experiences in the canyon. Clint explored the canyon alone back in 1980. He is not a prospector or miner but an adventurer. It seems he had heard similar stories about this area from some old timers who had been in there several times and caught the bug to go check it out himself. He actually camped inside the walls of the canyon during the Summer heat and he also knew about the so called secret spring where potable water was available. The first issue he had was with rattlers. One morning he woke up with one of them actually inside his sleeping bag. He was afraid to make a move for fear of getting bit. He said he was forced to lay there in the bag until mid afternoon when the snake finally decided to exit the bag. The temperature had climbed to well over 100 degrees and he was drenched in sweat when he finally got out of the bag. Another time he was climbing a rough outcropping of rock when he heard a thud just behind him. A rattler had struck at his back side and just missed him. He pulled his side arm and shot the snake. He was lucky two times. One night he was sitting in his camp gazing at the stars when he swears something came cruising down into the canyon from maybe a quarter mile to the north. Clint said it was a white glowing disk and made no sound. Then he said the fun started about half an hour later. While he was watching the sky and also the area in the canyon to the north of camp he saw several metallic objects or figures floating through the air about 50 yards away. They looked to be silver in color but at times became transparent. The objects sometimes took the shape of humanoids but also reverted back to oblong shaped things. They floated up the canyon walls and eventually out of sight. He didn't see them for the rest of that night. There's more that Clint told me and I will post it when I have the time.
  23. I got a call from a guy named Clint Storm who claims to have worked in Dreamwind Canyon back in 1980 and man does he have some wild stories about that place. He gave me permission to tell them so I will put them on as NOT IN THE DREAMWIND CANYON JOURNAL.
  24. I've always wondered about this sort of stuff, they extract huge amounts of gravel from the rivers here to use for roading projects and crushed up for grit on the roads in winter, and just general gravel use purposes. In among that gravel is going to be a huge amount of gold, ounce or more nuggets are found in the river even very recently and I can grab a few buckets of gravel and sluice out some flakes of gold in no time. This is my gold from a day running my sluice on the Shotover river. A caption from a news story about the river The world-famous Shotover River was one of the richest gold-bearing rivers in the world, and gold was first discovered in Arthurs Point in 1862. Prospectors, miners and fortune seekers flocked to Queenstown where the river was cradled, sluiced and dredged. The rush was short-lived as gold was discovered on the West Coast of the South Island and many miners moved on. From a news story. Two gravel-extraction operations have been granted consent to extract up to 100,000cu m of gravel per year from the Shotover River between the State Highway 6 bridge and the confluence of the Shotover and Kawarau rivers. In a decision released last week, Environment Court Judge Jon Jackson allowed the consent for Steve Rout Contracting Ltd in conjunction with Queenstown Gravel Supplies Ltd to extract the gravel, subject to 53 conditions ranging from the areas to be worked to water quality, and mitigation measures in relation to noise from machinery. I can only imagine how much gold is being crushed up and put into our roads and wherever we use gravel.
  25. American made trademark was thing of the 60, 70,80s . Big question is why military tech has not made its way into us Metal detector market and answer is simple no money in that .
