  1. Past hour
  2. Nothing wrong with any of that, all for it. I was talking performance as in depth and separation, not which way the find is displayed once found. That’s the key - you have to actually find it first.
  3. I went out yesterday to the Rye Patch placers. Once again found myself going to Bogene's settings. Sensitivity 7 and threshold at -8. This is almost hunting like a VLF. Very quiet until it runs over metal. Ended the day with 4 nuggets.
  4. And that is one of the many reasons i am not an engineer... 🎌
  5. Today
  6. I'd love them to make a new TRX, although it would have to be more stable than the existing one while maintaining the tip only sensitivity. They could have two pin pointers in their range as the TRX doesn't replace the Pro Pointer AT and the Pro Pointer AT doesnt' replace the TRX, they are very different due to their nose sensitivity vs 360 degree sensitivity. Sometimes you want one, other times you want the other. If they had both in their line-up they'd be doing well, manufacturers never put enough effort into pinpointers. Ideally they'd need a pulse pinpointer and a pulse with coil pinpointer like the pulse dive too. Any pinpointer in the future that doesn't have a Bluetooth mobile phone settings app like my Sphinx 03 is backwards old tech in my opinion, fiddling with combinations of beeps to setup a pinpointer is terrible and probably even then should have never been the way to configure it. Keeping a pinpointer down to 1 button to do a bunch of tasks was never a user-friendly option. Who wouldn't want to just open up the app on their Apple or Android phone and have configuration options like these at their finger tips. Once you've had an app pinpointer, it's hard to go backwards. Other than the Sphinx 03 the TRX is the most sensitive handheld standard pinpointer design I've ever used, so in a way, yes, it can be proven Whites tech is ahead of others at something, picking up fine gold nuggets in bedrock, it beats all the competitors of normal handheld pin pointers not speciality things like the Falcon at that except Sphinx which is a Russian brand only sold in their region so doesn't overly count as it's not a worldwide accessible brand. Garrett have the TRX in their hands, they need to remake it and modernize it and they've got a great product that would sell very well if they borrowed some ideas from the Sphinx 03, not just the app either.
  7. Rattlesnakes can be dangerous. In 1936 a gold miner called Whisky Jack dropped his tin cup on the other side of a log. When he bent over to retrieve it he was surprised to suddenly be face to face with a Northern Pacific Rattler. The snake was as surprised as the miner and bit him in the face. The miner died of a heart attack in route to a hospital. I wrote about that true story in the 1936 journal. I was told of this by an old timer who was told this by descendants of Whisky Jack.
  8. Actually only 5 ounces lighter. 12.7 oz vs. 17.6 oz. But still a significant drop.
  9. Here’s hoping. I don’t see anything wrong with hoping someone, anyone will make use of some of the things that were useful like the SignaGraph, multifrequency pinpoint graphics, or polar plot. These things enhance the detecting experience and aren’t necessarily married to the weaknesses of Whites machines. The Deus uses a version of polar plot they call the X/Y Screen. It was popular enough to carry over to the Deus II.
  10. Wow!----I don't blame you.----That's a LOT of weight difference out there on the end of the stick.
  11. Yep along with all of this stuff in Denver “hunted out parks” using the Manticore.
  12. OK, that makes more sense, that Garrett bought White's to keep the brand out of Chinese hands. Steve, you are absolutely correct, except for the 3 models I mentioned (GM24k, TM808, TRX) there is nothing White's had that even matches what Minelab and Nokta have today. The MXT might outhunt the AT Pro but that ain't where Garrett needs to go, and the V3 tech isn't going to help them, either, as it is way behind the competition. The Axiom is also way ahead of the TDI and anyone who thinks the Axiom uses any White's tech is wrong. Maybe Garrett will implement a SignaGraph in the Storm but that's something they (or anyone) could have had without buying White's. Other than that, don't expect any White's tech in any new Garrett releases.
  13. Should have read the 24K manual under ground scan. 24K yes, MXT not quite. At least not in the same sense as the GMT and 24K, both of which have the bar graph display with this feature. The MXT does display a continuous ground number though and achieves the same thing.
  14. Both the MXT and GM 24K had the "Follow the Black Sand" readouts with numbers.
  15. Now we need the gpx coil adapter cord with the chip in it…
  16. I don’t know if you caught my comment in an earlier thread but the Quipple loop ends have a metal synch clasp that my detector picks up when I bend over to get the target. See if you can use something non-metallic. With my detectors the quipple is too long. Maybe I’m doing something wrong? Also, does this setup depend on your belt to hold up your pants - or does it help hold up your pants? My pants tend to slip down even if my belt is pretty tight. Detecting or not. I don’t remember the problem when I was younger…..
  17. That clears it all up!!! Thanks… I clearly missed that class at the Naval War College! 🤣🤣🤣
  18. I received the new AccuPOINT yesterday. My initial impressions are very good. I'll have to see how it works out over the summer to make a definitive statement on it.
  19. Dan, I did some hand calculations that compare the performance of RG 174 vs. RG 179 in this application. Feel free to look them over to gain some additional insights. (lifted from a joke post on a Ham radio antenna help site - nerd humor)
  20. Yes and what UKD2User said regarding the exposed conductor length.
  21. Yes. I think that the only important dimension - and even then, probably not critical, is the amount of central conductor unshrouded at each end. Ideally, the same at each end and each roughly half or a quarter wavelength long. The stock cables seem to have just over 30mm exposed, which is roughly a 1/4 wavelength. I guess if you really wanted to go to town, you'd make the whole thing some simple even multiple of the wavelength (which of course is slightly different in HDPE than it is in air!).
  22. No hair splitting, I was just posting what I re-read on the internet yesterday, because I thought I remembered reading about spiders over there in the past and if you hadn't said there's no spiders over there I would've read your post and moved on. Even over here getting bit by Eastern Diamondback rattlesnake is very rare and the bites that do occur was most likely caused by some redneck or idiot saying "hold my beer and watch this...." LOL
  23. I don't have one, but have heard good things about them.
  24. 😧 Chase.....you and DWerk are far above this Cav Guy on this subject! I'm obviously impressed and very much appreciate the responses. So my understanding of all this boils down to the following.....both rg174 and rg179 will work for my intended purpose as a Deus II antenna but the rg179 might work better. Is that about right? 🙂
