  1. Ground balance and noise cancel are local only i.e. you are only doing them for the Search Profile you are in. All other Search Profiles stay where they were. If you change one Search Profile to ground tracking, you have not changed any other profiles, just the one you are in. It is very important when in bad ground and switching Search Profiles to ground balance etc when you switch Profiles. Important Tip - Global Vs Local Settings

  3. Welcome to the forum, and congratulations on first silver with Equinox!
  4. Just a reminder that on this forum it is best not to speak about or for others and about what they may be thinking, what their motives might be, etc. We are all quite capable of speaking for ourselves and it’s generally best if we do exactly that and leave others out of it. No responses required to this, just a friendly reminder. Thank you!
  5. Nickels can definitely vary from 13, especially because target id numbers vary slightly between Search Profiles. Deeper and older nickels can read lower than 13 due to mineralization or surface corrosion. 12 a possibility for sure, with 11 and 14 especially more rare. I have been treating nickels the last couple hunts as a target of opportunity however, and so have concentrated very much on only digging what I call a “hard 13” while in Park 1. Where I have hunted recently bottle caps reading 13 are extremely rare. Like just one the last couple hunts. The only real trash target at 13 is the square tab and maybe pencil eraser holders. My last hunt I was running sensitivity 21 or 22 in Park 1, zero iron bias, and recovery speed 7. Many square tabs feel weak at recovery 7 as I rotate around them, being both thin and rectangular. Still, some shallow ones hit hard enough I am still digging a few square tabs while recovering nickels, but they are screwdriver popping shallow so no big deal. I have not played with frequency options yet. A lower single frequency should still have solid hits on nickels while making the square tabs even weaker.
  6. I am very to hear of your loss - nobody should have to live through that. Metal detecting always brings me peace and I wish the same for you.
  7. You can plug the booster either into the GPZ directly or into the WM12 module. Either will work, but plugging direct into the GPZ is going to result in better audio quality since there is always some loss employing wireless audio.
  8. Like Chase said. The power charge cable doubles as a USB cable. This will allow Equinox to hook to a computer to use a future version of XChange2. Page 67 of Owners manual: ”Software Updates EQUINOX Series detector have the ability to accept software updates via USB and XChange 2 (Windows or Mac OS compatible).“ I do expect we will see a bug fix update at some point, once enough time has passed to be sure all bugs are found. Around end of year maybe? No genuine knowledge on that though so don’t quote me!
  9. Chase gave an excellent detailed response. Mine is the same but will make it super short and in rough order. Do the automatic noise cancel. If step one does not work, try reducing sensitivity a few steps. Each drop in sensitivity has quite a large effect on EMI. If you have an 800 you might want to try manual noise cancel, but if auto did not work this is usually just a fine tuning step. Try the single frequency options. Lower frequencies are usually more susceptible to EMI. This can have a massive impact and will usually fix all but the worst problems. Some Search Profiles may be quieter than others so trying each of them in conjunction with the above steps may help.
  10. I have one. I would only use mine in relatively flat or rolling terrain, with wide open spaces. I think for me at least the chances of extra depth are minimal compared to just having better ground coverage. It’s an expensive coil, so you have to be doing lots of detecting to make it worthwhile as a secondary coil. There are a few people who use it as their primary coil, but frankly it’s just too much weight for me to be my full time coil. The main problem though is I hunt sagebrush country and so the large size is not practical for the spaces I hunt most of the time.

  12. I don’t currently have an AT Pro but have had one. Only reason I can see to keep it is you can get coils and waterproof headphones for it now and not yet for Equinox. More generally I go through a lot of detectors. Sometimes one is obviously going to replace another, and I sell the one that is going away immediately. Sometimes I just don’t know how it will shake out, in which case I keep both until the issue settles itself. Any detector gathering dust I don’t need. My advice is if money is no issue keep the AT Pro for now, just in case. Once you have used a Equinox enough you are sure you are comfortable, let the AT go if you choose. That’s the safe way to go about it.
  13. No worries Darryl. I am a bit grumpy today. You have far more right than I however, having waited so long to get a detector, and people posting some pretty amazing finds almost everyday it seems. I will give you this though - you got me to post twice now when both times I said I was done!!
  14. Wow, absolutely stunning find! I would sure be curious to find out what it grades at if you care to share that at a later date. The main problem for your son is he could metal detect the rest of his life and never make a better find then that! Congratulations!!
  15. Good on you Skate for trying so hard to help people find lost items!
  16. My comment was not aimed at you Darryl in any way at all. When I address people directly I do so by quoting them or addressing them in my post, as I did just now. I did move your post here because I do not want any new threads started on this subject matter. My post was just one last time trying to offer a tip that could get people a machine faster than being number 42 in line someplace.
  17. I can tell you all right now it is a fact that many smaller dealers have very short lines with people able to get 800s on the next shipment. The largest, most obvious outlets have the longest lines. That’s my last tip and comment on all this.
  18. Actually nearly all complex detectors have issues or weaknesses from an engineers point of view. I would not worry about it at all unless you are actually having problems. The tracking is no good in highly mineralized ground. The fix is to try and fudge manual ground balance via a combination of LocTrac and Offset. Not the best solution in the world though. A functional ground grab button as per MXT Pro would be much appreciated. Again, only an issue for a very few but I just happen to be one of those very few. As an aside my Bigfoot coil does not really work as well with the V3i as the DFX it was designed for due to this. Frequency skewing at 22.5 kHz is one issue that I basically overlook. But the BigFoot also does not handle ground as well on V3i as it did on my DFX. Since I am only hunting shallow stuff with it though I overlook that also, but not as easily since the coil tends to be noisy now.
  19. Ha, ha, I am done trying to modify detectors to make them into something the manufacturers should be doing themselves! My Garrett ATX tear down and rebuild was a direct poke at Garrett trying to get them to do a lightweight “Garrett LTX”. It was kind of fun but took way too long (my fault) and so I am sticking with factory made from here on out. I actually tried to get a QED early on but nobody was interested in selling me one so I gave that up.
  20. Does not apply to non-detector items i.e. pinpointers, coils, carry bags, etc.
  21. I am anxious to get my hands on the larger coil. Not for depth, but for ground coverage. Normally I would never use an oversized coil in parks because of the increased risk of target masking. Currently I use a 3” x 17” Bigfoot coil to cover huge sports fields while minimizing masking with the narrow coil width. However, the Equinox 12” x 15” combined with lower sensitivity and faster recovery may make a decent coil for jewelry hunting in sports fields. I will be giving it a good go for that use whenever I can lay hands on one. EQX 06 Double-D Smart Coil The waterproof 6-inch round Double-D coil is very sensitive to small targets, and perfect for finding treasure in high trash areas. It is also ideal for detecting in difficult terrain. A protective skidplate is included. Part No. 3011-0333 EQX 11 Double-D Smart Coil The waterproof 11-inch elliptical Double-D coil provides good all-round performance for general detecting. It provides a good balance between sensitivity, weight, and ground coverage. A protective skidplate is included. Part No. 3011-0334 EQX 15 Double-D Smart Coil The waterproof 15 x 12-inch elliptical Double-D coil provides maximum depth for specialised treasure hunting. It is also great for wide ground coverage in open spaces. A protective skidplate is included. Part No. 3011-0335
  22. Very nice hunts Cal, really appreciate you posting. More and more I see results that are duplicating what happened to me with Equinox on sites where I was not having much luck with other detectors. Its nice to see I was not imagining things. I am seriously not trying to pump Equinox up either by saying it has been a long time since I have seen a new detector producing so well for so many new owners on their early hunts. It’s way past being just a lucky few now but a real trend, especially with gold finds. Been some real terrific coin finds also. Should be lots of awesome reports coming up in the next month as the next wave of machines gets delivered. Those of us with machines already in hand - hit those easy obvious areas now. You might be surprised what that little park just down the street still has left in it. You know, the one everyone gave up on twenty years ago!
