What rotten luck. You have just bought the heaviest detector on the market and your back goes out. Most unfortunate timing.

My X coil is now a permanent fixture on my QED. Just can't believe it runs so smooth.

Could be gold in the same area. There often is.

You need some help as your settings seem to be all wrong. No way should you have a GB of 100. That is way out. I suggest you get some help as you seem to be totally out of your depth. It is not so difficult, but you really need some advice. -
Great scenery John.

Has Anyone Else Been Harassed Whilst Prospecting?

You must be joking! Do you mean that we must develop some type of gantry to enable us to swing this monstrosity? What about the responsibility of the manufacturer to provide a user friendly product? The problem is that lack of competition has led to this situation where the manufacturer who has a technical advantage does not need to compete. They can be as lazy and slack as they like, and have a 'like it or lump it' attitude and get away with it. Get rid of any critics in favor of 'yes men', and cruise to a world beater reputation. Any competition can be dealt with by farcical legal action designed to overpower by way of superior finances. Every dog has its day.

All this is totally unnecessary. Instead of palming of some cumbersome converted military mine detector with minor modifications onto the prospecting fraternity, and a message of 'kiss our arse in gratitude', and then coming up with a pathetic truss to support the weight of this ill begotten monster, they could have designed an ergonomic prospecting specific detector. I just can't believe the way this cynical opportunism has been accepted by the detector public without so much as a whimper. They say that you get the politicians that you deserve, well that must apply to detectorists as well, and if so, we must be a bunch of suckers.

Yeah, madtuna, when I was younger it was bearable, but now it is just an avoidable pain in the buttocks. Duel speakers, Really?

If you are happy to be trussed up like a Christmas turkey then go for it. All you need now is how to do the little bugaloo figure eight dance and you are away. How easy can it be?

Interesting that the little bit was found on granite bedrock.

Dave 63, if your QED has the latest DSM ground balance which ranges from 0 to 300 then it is unlikely that you will achieve a proper ground balance below 200 and more than likely you will ground balance between 220 and 230 depending on the mineralization in your area. I suggest you start at 220, and if your detector makes sound from ground upward as you raise it, then increase using the upward arrow until you achieve a balance. If it makes sound going down then decrease using down arrow until you achieve balance. The factory preset is way off since the DSM has been introduced and has caused some confusion. -

I have used a QED PL1 with early software on the beach in Vietnam where it turned up Russian coins, but no jewelry unfortunately. It behaved very well, and moved from dry to wet sand without a problem. The locals were most intrigued as I don't think they had seen a detector in action before. That PL1 is still in Nha Trang where the owner uses it mainly at night so as not to draw a crowd of onlookers. -

Wow Simon, you continue to spin me out as to how you have mastered the QED. You have a number of detectors, but like myself you have found that once you get the hang of this detector it answers most of the things that you require from a detector. I had a QED customer come to me today who had problems with ground balance. Once I had explained to him that the new GB system was from zero to three hundred and that the old average was now up to 220 or more and demonstrated this to him, the QED purred like a kitten. He is now happy with the way his machine is operating. -

Steve H. Q & A With Dick Stout
Reg Wilson replied to Glenn in CO's topic in Detector Prospector Forum
Well I gave up the smokes years ago (all sorts), but giving up my home brewed beer and whiskey may be a bit more difficult. I gave up smoking cold turkey. One day I just thought "that's enough" and stopped. No relapse, and no nicotine gum. Just stopped. I try to keep the booze in moderation, but may one day have to give it up completely. My Apprehension is that people I have met over the years that neither smoke nor drink can be as boring as bat droppings. Especially those that are reformed, and the ones that tempt me into committing strangulation are the ones that have turned to religion. Should I reluctantly decide to climb upon the wagon of boredom Steve I shall prevail upon you for some words of advice. Seriously. -
Thanks Adam, and yes a book is nearing completion, although we (my wife and I) keep finding more anecdotes to add. We hope to have it finished later this year. Will keep you advised.
