  1. Glad to hear your out and about doing well, hope you find a big one in the Oz Land. Thanks for sharing !
  2. Give me gold and silver any day, a strong U.S. dollar maybe a good thing for import prices. cheaper foreign goods for us. A high dollar is bad for exports manufacturers. but in these turbulent times when everything just doesn't make sense its not good. Look at the prices of consumable goods, food and fuel are going up,up. Should we still be buying cheap Chinese goods? We have never seen such a bad economic convergence globally making this the biggest global bubble ever. IMHO the biggest economic butterfly effect is emerging one bigger then the one that destroyed the German economy under Mr. Mustache. Start stacking...
  3. 🤐 forget it, I'll just shut my mouth.
  4. That's pretty cool considering its form New Mexico, do not hear much about New Mexico gold mines or gold finds. Nice piece.
  5. Sorry man but I am honest and reality is when you dig some nuggets you just fall in love with them all. To say one is my favorite from the other is simply be a lie, so I posted these placer ones. Just don't even ask about my crystalline ones.
  6. No such thing as favorite gold nuggets just like children, they are all so unique and different. Here are just a few of my favorites nuggets.
  7. Excellent work guys!! Congrats on your new claim, hope it pays of with a bounty of gold for you.
  8. That is a great count anyway you look at it, and took a lot of work to find, congrats for the great effort.
  9. Nice Reese , been really enjoying reading about your adventure up north. I been camping in my backyard and didn't realize how many animals are out making all kinds of noise, freaking coyotes get the local dogs yipping and yapping, but with the heat sure feels nice to sleep outside. I can't imagine all those critters in your area and grizzlies!! Think I am going to beat the heat by visiting the California Mineral Museum to see if they have any new acquisitions of gold specimens and nuggets . The gold vault holds some of my local specimens I have found over the years for the visitors to see. The heart within the nugget is cool, its a keeper!
  10. Haha, sorry but that's freaking funny. I can't tell you how many times I got signals under cow patties, but you gotta dig it, not one produced a nugget, some produced aluminum trash like foil they may have swallowed. Look at it this way Reese, you won't forget this crap. 😉. Nice gold by the way..
  11. Sorry to hear of his passing, R.I.P. condolences to his family. https://newsregister.com/article?articleTitle=richard-(rick)-scott-herron-1964-2022--1658957371--43808--obituaries-new
  12. After reading your nice story I have decided to take the ole trusted Whites MXT to do some relic hunting. 🙂
  13. Totally agree, I was a Whites guy for a long time, when I made the switch to Minelab my world in detecting changed. My nugget count sky rocketed, gold that was unreachable became reachable, sure I found some small nuggets with my vlfs, but nothing what Minelab sniffed out! Like I said many times before I still use the 4500 and I am happy with it, one day I'll upgrade when I am ready, I could have done it years ago, I value money and I have other places where its needed like my family. As far as I am concerned the fact this 4500 still works from day one 13 years and never had to have it repaired say a lot about Minelab quality. Thank you Minleab !
  14. I have been sitting on the fence for way to long 🙂 but having a second detector that does what it claims would be a great asset. Just need to figure out what mining equipment I will put up for sale. Anyone in need of a commercial 5 bank drywasher? 🙂 Droughts not going away, plenty of small gold to be found..come on now...lol.
  15. I totally get your perspective Steve, I remember in one of your old post you mentioned how you enjoy the latest new tech, be they detectors, computers, and such. I understand why you would want to get rid of some of the older detectors and get this new one. I have a spouse and 3 children and my first priority is my family, although I have been serious about the search for gold for well over 30 years and have had some darn good success at it. I think I have found my find of a lifetime 3 X and joined the pound club to boot. The future may give me a 2 pounder, we are always chasing that next thing that will find us our retirement nugget, and if that means buying the next and possibly the greatest new detector to keep that dream and hope alive , then its worth it.
  16. Your point well taken and on that note reminds me of a conversation I had with a geologist and the former owner of the Colorado Quartz mine here in Mariposa. We were talking shop in my shop about detectors, he was looking to replace a few coils for his Fisher Gold Bug he used in detecting specimen gold in his mine. He said he has about a half dozen detectors including P.I. and vlf machines, with various size coils. He has even had his Fisher gold bug modified tweaked to be hotter , more chatty but a bit more sensitive to the crystalline specimens that are found in his hard rock mine. As we know one detector cannot do it all, having an option to choose the one that works the best in the environment your hunting is ideal. I certainly feel I have exhausted the abilities of the 4500 on all my patches, I have used coils from the sadie to the 20" Mono and feel confident I have dug up 90% of the gold in those patches. So whats my next step, perhaps a new Garret Axiom, 🙂
  17. Very nice! Which beaches do you hunt in Ventura?
  18. I am a bit surprised why anyone would sell, trade or rid themselves of a perfectly great detector and a new one like the GPX 6000 for the new Garret Axiom, its not as if its going to get you the gold of all a sudden because you have a new detector. I suppose I am old fashioned, frugal, cheap call it what you want, if it ain't broke why fix it. Finding gold takes way more then a detector, you need access to gold fields, you need time to learn the machine that you have, and a lot of time behind it digging thousands of pieces of trash. I am sure the "New" Garret Axiom is a great performing detector, I watched the videos and it sure gets the small stuff!! I am not knocking it at all and would love to have one, but hanging up ole Betsy ML 4500 just doesn't feel right for me, she still sniffs out the mosquito poop, the deep lunks she has found many times, if it aint broke, why replace her. Just a thought I had this morning wanted to share, a rolling stone gathers no moss.
  19. Dang small gold and very good sound response!! Looking forward to more field results. We may just have a serious U.S. made pulse induction detector.
  20. Welcome Jerry, Use to live in Ventura county, moved to Valencia for a bit and done some prospecting in the are. San Francisquito Canyon is an area of interest, did some panning near the old dam that failed back in 1928. Check out the dry gulches do some testing and look for old workings, Piru creek is another area, but even in those days when I was living there Piru has signs of no prospecting allowed, I dont see why metal detecting would be prohibitive, check with the rangers , maybe ask some questions if you can detect or pan. The fun part of getting into this hobby is the research, dig deep into the history. You are not far from Mojave Randsburg district and the surrounding areas have plenty of gold to keep you busy adventuring. You can always go south and visit the East Fork of the San Gabriel's , found my first 100 gold nuggets down there up in the dry gulches and ravines. But the best bet on the East Fork would be panning and sluicing you will always find gold using this method, nuggethunting up in the old hydraulic workings is a bit hairy and difficult do to the steep terrain. I would recommend joining some clubs, the Orange County 49ers has some great claims 1-2 hours away from you, one in the Kern District, Lake Isabella area and up in the mountains of Keyes district is loaded with placer gold..good luck with your adventure, research, network and you will be in with 2 feet very soon.
  21. We need more young folks in this hobby, what a great way to experience the outdoors. So many today hanging in their bedrooms playing video games. It would be fine if they balanced it out with some outdoor activity. I grew up reading treasure books, old pirate tails, and watched anything with those themes. It fed my adventurous spirit in me, glad I grew up in those days, today I'd be distracted by video games like so many. 😃 I always share my hobby with those that find it interesting, show them some gold you just never know who you will inspire to buy their first detector.
