That's a super hunt! You got a lot of different, great targets. 2 sweet coins, bullets, etc. I'd be real happy with that for the day.

Tried to figure out that back mark but just couldn't match it up. Try and gently rub your finger over the dirt on the covered letters. Don't push deep, just gently sweep side to side until the letter show up. Overdoing it makes it harder to see the letters. Contrast is your best friend.

Cleaning it up will probably not do much good. If you do, start in the fields that are plain, like below the bust. Leave the details alone or you will lose them. That corrosion may be tough to pick away or it may just flake off easily. Use caution.

Thanks GB. The zincs were washed away when about a foot of sand went with them. The one zinc I found was kind of a shock, as it was as deep as the mid 60's layer that was exposed. Just shows you how the beach mixes everything up. We could be so lucky to have the zincs corrode away quickly. They slowly degrade and cause havoc with my Equinox numbers. They find there way down into #'s they should not be, like 9, 6, 5, all great gold #'s. I'm used to the weight of the GPX, it's the constant digging that gets to me. Non stop, and no lunch is what does me in after 7 hours. I've had people move into where I was hunting when I changed machines, so I stick to it until I've had enough. My energy level is a mathematical equation E=GFxS (Energy= Good Finds x Sugar) 😄

I think kac is correct, it's a George III half penny. The newer dates have the style of bust you have. Here's a 1799 that has the high bust. Unfortunately the date is one the reverse side.

Thanks, I should be back at it this coming Thursday. We'll see if conditions are the same or not. But either way, I get the stress release of being on a beach and my detecting fix is satisfied! That was one, 7 hour hunt. For the last 5 hunts combined, I'm nearing 90 silver coins from this beach. When conditions are right, you can get a lot of coins. I remember some hunters in New Hampshire that got 100 silver coins in just one hunt. Early morning and late night hunt. The coins are just deep enough to be out of range of most VLF's but well within the range of pulse machines. If I lived closer, my wife would only see me long enough to feed me 😂 But if I get her a nice ring, I may be OK. Conditions are great here. Usually they get good around October as bigger storms hit the coast, but this time it was late and it's better in Feb/ Mar. Thanks, Mitchel. I'm using the 12.5" Detech DD coil. It seems to be the best choice from all the coils I have. I have the 18"DD but I would have to either get a bungee cord or a side handle for the machine, neither of which I have a love for. If I could find a way to drag the small spade I use behind me, then I would try the 18" coil for deep quarters and half dollars. I just cleaned one of those black cookies and found a very poor Washington quarter beneath it. Not even a date.

Thanks. The GPX has a lot to do with it. Without it I probably would not have nearly that amount. Experience comes with time and of course using your brain 😄 My experience is learned very slowly, unlike some others who learn quick.

Well in this day and age it's a good idea for them. Your existing customers may buy it and if word gets around, you may get some new customers too. Sounds lie a win - win situation.

Those guys hit that place hard before you got there 😢 The walk in pretty much eliminates swapping out machines or coils too. At least you got that ring. 👍

It's hard to hit those places. No one talks about it being drained until someone slips up 😄 I actually saw a huge pond drained in my area and found out about it after stumbling onto a YouTube video of it. Then the snow came in and I missed my chance. At least you got a ring from it. I always try all metal if I'm not getting a lot of targets, just to get a little deeper.

I went back to my silver beach, as I had a fairly good feeling this part of the beach would not change much. It did not and I had a very good day. Spent 7 hours there with the GPX, dug all signals including iron and finally called it quits when my brain said GO HOME! The number of signals in a short span was unreal. I spent some of my time just detecting from my knees, since I could get 4 or 5 signals in very close proximity to the signal I was digging. Most of the time just inches away. Total coin count I believe was 150. 18 silvers, all copper pennies but 1 zinc, so I put that with the trash picture. It ruined my perfect copper penny day and I refuse to put it next to them. 😄 4 Buffalo Nickels showed up, as well as 1 Indian Head Cent, a Standing Liberty Quarter, and a Barber Dime (a rarity on this beach). Also, a nice little locket which I am unsure if it's solid gold or gold filled. It has a 14 stamped on the inside with a maker’s symbol that looks like a variation of Neptune’s 3-pronged spear (Trident). I saw no indication of peeling of the gold, so I am cautiously optimistic I found gold. Of course, with the type of hunting I do, there was lots of junk as well. Got my exercise in for the week and plan on hitting it again soon. Weather was rather nice and sunny, just shy of cold. No matter how old you are, the kid in us still has to play! 🙂

That is the oddest gold ring I have ever seen. I would swear it was plated until you tested it. I'm not sure what would de-laminate a ring like that. My second guess would have been gold over silver (vermeil). It would be interesting to see if the layers are a different karat. That would be a job for an XRF for sure.

So true. I found a nice 10K ring, what I call a panel ring that had 8 sides to it. The coolest ring ever. I dropped it on the tiled kitchen floor, as I was showing it to my wife. It shattered at each connecting point. I now had 8 small panels and no ring 😄.......😭😭😭

I wondered the same thing too. I kept thinking it would be like a 5000, but better on EMI and maybe with a more refined discrimination, and a tad bit deeper. But it may be that in the countries that are the new gold areas, Minelab wanted to continue the continuity of the 5000, so that they would not perceive it as a completely new machine. The 5000 probably produced a lot of gold for them, so they wanted to keep riding the successes of it. I have this odd feeling that the 6000 is the last of that series or that the series has morphed, and we will never see anything like the 5000 again. Will we ever get discrimination again??

I quickly built an old shelf where a fireplace chimney once was. I hid the bricks with a shelf. Only mistake was that I did not make the shelves deep enough to support a large coil. My other coils, I hang on the outside of each end cap. Maybe you can repurpose an old shelving unit without much modification??

My non waterproof machines handled the rain better than the waterproof ones 😄 My DFX was used a lot in the rain and once about 1/2 mile in the woods when it started to down pour. My GPX and E trac did great too. It was my CTX that would leak just looking at the waves 🙄

I've had my GPX hit with those sneaky little waves that come out of nowhere. 😣 It's happened at least a half a dozen times. But one day it will fry that machine and I will be very sad. It depends on your machine. The GPX is fairly rugged. I've dropped it, hunted in light, steady rain, had those waves hit it, and so far it's survived. You do have to use contact cleaner on the knobs though. I once froze one solid. Couldn't turn the knob to change timings. Sprayed it down with the electronics contact cleaner and it was good as new. I have hunted a beach like Badger is describing. It is extremely flat when the tide goes out. There is no wave action to speak of. It just drains out slowly and you just start seeing a lot of flat land. It does retain water, so if you lay your machine down, the bottom of it would get wet. Things sink very deep at that beach. Next time I have a real low tide, I will venture out to the deepest part I can.

I use the Xtreme Surfmaster X3 Stainless Steel scoop with carbon fiber handle. l just bought it and it's very well made. I'm saving that for when I decide to detect in the water. For dry beach hunting I use a short pointed spade. It helps get through the packed rocks better and faster than I can do with a scoop. That is my main weapon of choice.

I don't think it's taboo here, as we have been very vocal on our dislikes about the machine. I hope you are not holding back on your issues with it as someone may have an answer that may help. You must have a very different type of beach than I am used to here in New England. There were some issues with the coil wire not being tight against the shaft that produced a lot of falsing, especially in the water. I don't think Carolina meant any disrespect to you in his comments. I find that I generally run on or near the presets for most time, but do run the ATS at 3 in all metal, when I want to get the most out of it. I do have to change my sweep speed to settle the machine down at that low of a ATS setting. Just some thoughts. I know you are a seasoned detectorists, so no disrespect meant by my comments on how I run it.
