  1. Definitely pick on the clue advice he is giving about the super fine tuning of the gb by pumping the coil, by making the user button in manual. He threw out this tidbit of information when the 7000 first came out. But it is the most important part of this video IMHO.
  2. If Oroville dam were to be breached, this would be the supposedly affected areas in the local area
  3. After I posted, I saw that ?. I forget to look over on the sub forums at times. Doh.
  4. Since the V4 update came out, it has been real quiet on here. Anyone using the update with any success? Anyone figuring out the programs and making any custom ones? I got a custom program from a friend. For iron infested areas. He was explaining to me the Deus was made for European hunting. Of course I knew that. But he further explained that they have wrought-iron in Europe and we don't we don't have so much in the states. So he has figured out a program that is better suited for the iron and steel in the united states. So I am going to go test run it. So if you have any success stories or issues, please share. That is my goal with the Deus this year, is to learn it, and become more proficient with it.
  5. Happy Birthday. I only get tired after 5 ounces. Nice gold.
  6. I purchased this digital microscope off of Amazon for around 25 bucks. It came from China, so it took forever to get here. But it does work on my PC and comes with a program on disc. So if your interested? Get one that is already somewhat local to where you live. Like not China. Also make sure it has a App made for it. I had to search the app store and finally found one that worked after several tries. Also make sure it has a OTG Adapter if you want to use with a smartphone. But it should be fun to check out specimens and gold with it. Here is the app that worked well with it.https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.vaultmicro.camerafi
  7. 1. Know your machine. 2. Know where to look. 3. Spend lot's of hours doing it. 4. Repeat.
  8. I just got everything updated, headphones and coils included. Easy peasy. Went without a hitch. Gonna read up on it tonight. And hit the mill pond tomorrow. Popular swimming spot.
  9. Went for a drive down the Feather River Canyon yesterday. Beautiful day, lots of water everywhere. With lots of water, comes lots of bugs. As the sun was starting to set, the mosquitoes and buffalo gnats were horrendous. So make sure bug repellant is in your bag. Lots of water made for a good scouring of the riverways. Should make for a good prospecting and detecting season.
  10. Im hearing the update will be released later today.
  11. Purchased a small hand rock crusher. Going to crush samples as I find them when detecting and prospecting. I don't know a whole lot about hardrock and pocket gold. So any tips or suggested reading is helpful. Thanks.
  12. No gold to be found. Lol Keep moving on. http://www.actionnewsnow.com/story/34676927/sorry-prospectors-dwr-says-likely-no-gold-as-a-result-of-oroville-dam-spillway-flooding
  13. Bob, thanks for posting the links to the books. The speaker was great. He put on a great presentation. I thoroughly enjoy learning the gold rush history of our area.
  14. Prospecting & detecting is more of a lifestyle choice than anything close to a moneymaking opportunity. Dont get me wrong, selling a little gold when I want a new detector is very nice when the spot price is high. Mine is a personal battle to conquer and become the best I could possibility be at that sport or activity. My motto is " Show me a good loser, and I will show you a loser. " When I loved basketball, I worked hard to be a well rounded player. We won the championship of all of Northern State. I could dunk the basketball like a pro. When I loved fishing, I slayed the fish of all of Northern California. Learned to tie flies and became at expert fly fishing . Prospecting came real easy to me. In the wet placer fashion. Because I had a family of great mentors. But electronic prospecting has been a bit of a challenge for me in the beginning. Mostly because I didn't know the basics and had no mentoring. But when I joined WSPA. I got with a group that emensily shortened my learning curve. (Klunker and C. Porter) I am so thankful for their knowledge. This is a activity I can take with my up into my old age. So no, gold spot price almost has no bearing on me being a prospector.
  15. When I sold my GMT a few years ago, I just threw in the Zip-Zip book. Oh well.
  16. Confirmed with the speaker today . I just love the history of our area and the gold rush. If in the Reno area , your invited to attend .
  17. Andy Sabisch had a full and detailed report on the V4 beta testing and info on release dates on Facebook . This is copied from Andy's post. V4.0 . . . Let's try this one more time . . . . . People keep posting that they are upset at XP for not releasing V4.0 and having the "audacity" of releasing it to dealers while the consumer is left outside looking in. Well, to put it bluntly, the reason the software has not been released is that it is NOT ready . . . not sure what makes people think it is. The fact that a VERY small number of dealers just received the beta software and accessories to test was done intentionally and it was to ensure there are no glitches rather than giving them a leg up on the competition as some have posted. XP is not playing favorites but rather trying to get all the test data they can to make sure it is ready when released. All of the new accessories need to work with the V4.0 software and while some people have zero interest in them, they are part of the updated software. The testing is taking place to ensure the software works with them for the 95% of the people that want at least one of them as well as the 5% that simply want the software update. Personally I am sure that future updates will not be discussed prior to their release as was done when V3.0 - V3.2 was released after this debacle in terms of customer posts. That way there is no hype, speculation and angst when it is not released due to issues that arose. Many of you have said XP should release it and then issue patches to address any issues . . . . . if you feel the Microsoft-way of releasing software is the answer that's fine but XP does not subscribe to that approach. That happened when V3.0 was released followed by V3.1 and V3.2 within a few weeks and they have said there will be no V4.1, V4.2, etc.this time. There have been multiple revisions to the V4.0 code (4.0.XX) to get to the present point and as issues are found they are getting addressed but when the release is made, it will be V4.0. It i still in beta testing at this point and input is being collected from around the world. XP wants to make sure this release is done right period. Not sure how many users you think there are in the States but the U.S. user base is a very small percentage of Deus owners worldwide. Having been at the Gold Rally in the UK where there were 750+ Deus users made me realize that it is truly a worldwide detector that has taken the world by storm . Everyone is anxious to get it but when it is released the number of people that will be downloading it will make your head spin. The last thing XP wants is an issue with the build that requires more recoding, testing and another release. They have more projects on the table and the sooner they can get V4.0 out, the sooner they can move on to getting them into our hands. Personally I would rather have it RIGHT than RIGHT NOW and that is the approach that XP is taking. Andy Sabisch
  18. Heading to Reno to stock up on groceries , supplies, and essentials before the next storm rolls in tonight . I will be home tonight , only dreaming of going detecting .
  19. Congratulations . A beauty. It weighs more on the flip side ! Turn it over and weigh it again , it keeps getting heavier .
  20. I've been filling 20 sandbags a day after work, in preparation for the next storms. Another couple of inches , it would have been in my garage . Praying everyone is safe.
