  1. That is an absolutely amazing site! It seems like there should be volunteer organizations that could monitor and protect historic sites like that and work with the land owners to help provide security while increasing the property values at the same time. I know that's a lot to ask of people these days.
  2. I snagged one off of Kellyco last night and now they're out of stock too. For what it's worth, I've had one on preorder from another vendor for quite a while. When and if it comes in, I'll sell it here (on the Classifieds) unopened for the regular price it cost me if anyone is interested.
  3. For anybody looking for the 10x15 coil, Serious Detecting is showing them in stock, as of the time of this posting. Serious Detecting
  4. Just touching base on this topic. I have aquired the necessary hardware and software to test this idea and discovered that it can work, and while my limited initial testing does not yet show if it will be accurate enough to aide in target identification or discrimination, I am hopeful that it will benefit hearing impaired detectorists, which is my main goal in this study. I will try to post more information with some photos and video of the equipment and testing in a few days (as time permits). I also believe this will work with other detector types and brands as well and be very inexpensive to impliment.
  5. I usually hit a local park on a weekday at about 8 or 9 AM. Since it's been warming up that's usually warm enough for me by then and mostly just a few dog walkers and joggers around. Since we can't dig plugs where I live, I do the "screwdriver" method and nobody has ever complained about holes or marks (because there are none that they can see). Most people just wave and some are curious and ask questions. Many of those are interested in how to get started in metal detecting. Many of my area parks are not entirely safe at night, so I opt out of night hunting.
  6. Even though there are obvious limitations with anayzing audio signals from detectors, there are definitely implications that could benefit the hearing impared in this hobby. I'm about chest deep into this now and working on some possible useable solutions. As I make initial builds and testing, I will post my observations. I will also post all of the instructions and list of parts and where to find them so that anyone can make it or help in the progression of this idea. I'm also trying to keep the builds as simple and cost effective as possible so everyone can to do this if they want to.
  7. Thanks Chase, I thought that was a long shot. Long shot #2... Can you use Bluetooth headphones and wired headphones at the same time on the Nox?
  8. Does anyone know if the Nox will pair Bluetooth to an iPhone?
  9. Do your AirPods pair directly to the Nox or through your iPhone?
  10. Although I don't speak French, I was able to follow along and the charting at the end showed all the coils falling in ine where I thought they would for depth. We have our first comparison. Thanks El Nino77!
  11. On the Equinox, an iron target can hit strong enough or low enough on the VDI scale to "wrap around" to the high end of the scale and briefly project high tones and numbers from 38-40. For example, over a large iron target you can see a -8, then -4, then 38, then -7. The EQ is trying to interpret all of the conductor information it is picking up with each swing and if it "senses" a lower conductor component in a target than -9, it will shift the number and tone to the other side of the scale at the highest conductor side, hence "wrap around". In sites with a lot of iron, I have noticed this happens more with faster swings than with slower ones. I have been fooled many times by this, but when I see a hit in the high 30s, I just have to dig it, even though I know it's probably iron... and it usually is. 🙂
  12. I preordered one weeks ago and can't wait for my dealer to get them in and sent to me so I can start putting it through the paces. IMO, it's an accessory that's been needed in the Equinox arsenal, and I for one will use the hell out of it. I love my 6" coil, but I work a lot of trashy areas that need that seperation and a little extra coverage at the same time. To me, it's another useful tool in the bag and I'll make whatever compensations, if necessary, to use the right tool for the job, just like I do with all my tools. Maybe the 5X10" coil isn't for everybody (how many things are?) but I'll be happy to give it a go.
  13. Ditto what Steve H said. Steve G worked with me, while he was on his vacation, to make me a travel shaft with the counter balance. I was having a little arm fatigue from the 11" coil and dreaded using the 15", so he worked out the right amount of weights for each coil for my particular size and swing and it has been a game changer for me. I initially used the weight for the 11" coil and my fatigue completely went away. Then I tried the 15" coil with the same weight and it works great for that too, so I didn't have to use the extra weight packet for the 15" at all. I did a 7 hour hunt with the 15" a couple of days ago and no arm or back pain at all... my knees however, well that's a different story. 😉 But it's been about 8 months or so and I've had zero problems with the shaft or counter balance, and I love that I can just unscrew the counter balance with the 6" coil and it's light as a feather. I appreciate a quality product and Steve G knows his stuff.
  14. Well I may have changed my mind... I've been using my Aukey EP-B33 Bluetooth earbuds for the last month or so and now I'm liking the sound better than my ML80 phones. They're clearer and crisper to my ears and the good targets really sing out. It may be because 60+ year old ears have some hearing loss (can't imagine why 😉) but the 3 EQ setting built-in to the Aukeys lets me quickly dial in the sound so those low conductors come through nicely and all the tones sound better to me. The only downside is you have to do a Factory Reset on the Nox to get them to connect when changing phones, so now I just use my AUkeys and use the ML80s to keep my ears warm. 😄 Aukey aptX LL Bluetooth Earbuds
  15. From the second photo group, the lead part and shaft appear to be oval. Just making a guess here, but it resembles a writing instrument or perhaps a cutting, carving, or light chiseling instrument. The slit on the lead tip may have held an ink well scribing tip or possibly a small blade. It may even have held a needle for making tribal style tattoos by hand. If it was very old, I would expect the lead to be more of a white color. It's a puzzler. Cool find, though.
  16. Hi Tim, I don't know if this will work in your area, but I noticed my 6" coil performed much better when I reduced the sensitivity a bit. I don't know if it gets overloaded at normal sensitivity (18-20 in my mineralized ground), but when I knocked it down to 15-16, it seemed to focus better and cut right through the trash layer and got me 3 rings ( 1-gold, 2-silver) in a very trashy area. Of course I wasn't trying to hunt with it or go super deep, but I had been over that ground with the 11" and felt there was something else there and the 6" pulled them out. So try reducing your sensitivity a bit on the 6" and see if that helps.
  17. Yep, I figured that, but the sooner they drop, the sooner they ship, then the sooner they run out, then the sooner they back order, then the sooner they ship round two, and then Christmas! 😄
  18. After looking at the plug you have, it looks like the same plug. Why not just disassemble that plug and put it on your Pelsos?
  19. Do you have access to a multimeter? If you do, you can trace the exposed red, white, and yellow wires to the part of the stereo jack they are connected to. The Tip of the plug should be the Red wire, the Ring (next to the tip) should be the White wire, and the Sleeve should be the Yellow wire. But it may be wire completely different. You can also use the multimeter to check to see if the plug has a short or disconnected wire which could be causing a problem with the connection. PM me if you need help with that. Or it might be easier to just get a new plug and put it on your phones. Equinox headphone plug
  20. The pole attaches with a single bolt. Mine is nice and tight and light weight. I had one with a stainless steel handle and it got heavy and hot in the Florida sun, so I got the carbon fiber travel handle and never looked back. I also installed a grab handle just below the joint and use that to pull up with and I never worry about the pole breaking. Here's a link: MOTUS T-grip and here's another one: Raptor Pull These things make the pole so much easier to lift and pull the heavy wet sand. HTH
  21. Traditionally with stereo headphone connections, the Red wire is Right Positive (+), White wire is Left Positive (+), and any other color or bare wire is (-) ground. Of course some manufacturers ignore that.
  22. What about something like this: CKG Travel Scoop I got a CKG like this but with a slightly smaller scoop to use on vacation to the beach and it works great for me and easily packs into a suitcase.
