  1. Thanks! Yeah, that vaper hit hard at 30. I thought I had a silver half dollar for sure. 🤣
  2. I took a short trip to an older park before work hoping to find some older silver coins, but found these instead. Not exactly what I was looking for, but I'll take it. 😎
  3. I am just guessing here, but I can't imagine the coils are reporting stereo encoded signals to the control pod, so I would surmise that the audio signal to the headphones is dual mono. In that case it shouldn't matter which way you wear them. Try them (the headphones) on a test target and then flip them around. You'll be able to tell if it's a stereo signal because each ear will sound slightly, but noticeably different. If there's no change in sound, they are dual mono and can be worn whichever way you want. As a side note, imagine how much more accurate detecting and pinpointing would be if detectors reported stereo infomation from the coil. You would be able to tell which side of the coil the target was on and zero in on it with precision. 😎
  4. Yep, checked mine today in some high weeds and small trees and I bumped the coil many times but did not get the falsing sounds. It may be something loose inside your coil.
  5. Something like this? Bluetooth Speaker None of the ones I looked at said if they're APTX-LL so I assume they are not.
  6. I haven't noticed that with my 10x5. I rechecked it with sensitivity at 16, 18, 20, 22 in my back yard and it doesn't do that on mine. I can't go higher than sensitivity 22 because of EMI in my yard. I haven't searched fields with stubble, but I'll check it again next time I go out.
  7. Just a quick follow up on this... About a month ago I posted a question asking which would be a good "starter" detector because my wife had expressed an interest in detecting. I needed something easy to use, good quality, and lightweight. The overwhelming response recommended a Vanquish model, so I bought a gently used V540 with 12" coil from a nice member here and got an 8" coil and other essential accessories for her birthday. I figured if she didn't take to detecting, at least I'd have a nice backup to my Nox. I tested the 540 after it arrived to check it out and I must say, I was quite impressed. It hit deep coins and separated good targets from iron in my highly mineralized soil very well. It's a great turn on & go detector. So I cleaned it up and wrapped it all up for her birthday. We finally got to go out detecting Sunday before last and after a quick rundown of the basics, I set her loose. After a little over an hour of finding mostly old trash I hear a yell from across the field. I look up and my wife is holding something up that has a familiar glint in the sun. She hit a ring on her very first time detecting! It turned out to be Titanium, but a ring is a ring and now she's hooked on it. She loves her Vanquish so now it looks like I have to look for another backup machine.
  8. Ditto all of that! Got so bad I joined other forums... they're just not the same. I sure missed the ol' DP Forum and all you folks!
  9. Welcome back, Steve!!! I think you were missed just a little bit. 😁
  10. I'm thinking from a key chain. It looks like some spinner wheels I've seen on cars. I looks like a Chevy bolt pattern on the hub behind the spinner. 😎
  11. I thought it might be part of a marksmanship badge or medal, or the top part of a Civil War/Spanish-American War era medal. I did find a Spanish-American War era Marksmanship medal from the Pennsylvania National Guard. It's not the same, but it may have been from a similar medal only earlier vintage. Here's the link: Spanish American War Era Pennsylvania National Guard Marksman Medal 1899 Bronze
  12. I took the liberty of making a recreation of what the artifact may have looked like. Maybe this will help.
  13. The US military did not adopt the crossed rifles insignia for the infantry until 1875 and the crossed rifles with the Federal Shield design was not used until 1881. I like to see the back of the artifact if that's possible.
  14. I love cases and have a few nice rifle cases for my detectors, but the few times I've flown with my detectors, I just break them down and put them in my regular luggage and take the contol pods in my carry on. So far I've only had one TSA agent ask me a question about my Nox controller and all he wanted to know was if it was a 600 or 800. ...We are everywhere... 😎
  15. LOL, I tried going with just a screw driver for a day, but after running back to the car every few minutes for another tool, I decided that wasn't going to cut it. Then I went full assault pack, but that got me some funny looks, so I got the smallest pack I could find (6"x5") and crammed eveything into that. No weird looks since then. I just look like the eccentric old guy in the park with the weird waterbottle holder and funny looking walking stick! 😄
  16. Here's my Park Pack. I prefer a shoulder sling bag because belt rigs tend to slide off me after a while. 😬 I carry a water bottle, roll-up dump bag for trash, a small tackle box for good finds, probe, modified weed puller, a towel and knife and bulb shovel (in case I need to make a slit in the grass to dig a deep target), a small flashlight, and my F-Pulse pinpointer and Cache Pro Elite pinpointer (to discriminate deep iron targets). It's a small, light rig that doesn't scare park goers or parks dept. personel. 🙂
  17. That's and excellent idea to reduce the vertical profile to reduce drag in the water. Well done!
  18. Thanks for the heads up, I snagged a pair today. We'll see how the compare to my Aukey earbuds after they arrive. 🙂
  19. My guess is possibly bearings or the rollers from large wooden sliding doors like on a boxcar or barn.
  20. I think they may be starting to roll into the US. A friend of mine, who ordered it in March, received his this past weekend. 👍
  21. Cool looking rig! You're going to love that coil. I haven't taken mine off since I got it. I'm only hunting parks lately, but it's a sniper in the park. 🙂
  22. Thanks Jeff, I'm in the Springs and a member of PPAL. You know our Club Pres, Dave, who owns Sunny Mountain Prospecting. 😉
  23. Thank you all for your very informative input. I think I've decided on the Vanquish 540 and since I'm use to the Equinox, it will make it easier for me to get her going in our mineralized soil. There are several dealers selling a 540 Pro Pack that includes the V12 & V8 coils and ML80 wireless headphones for the same price as the Apex, a little less than the ORX, and a little more than the Simplex+, so that just makes sense to me. Plus, if she doesn't like metal detecting, I'll have a nice back-up for the Nox. 😉 Thank you all again for your time and help!
  24. My wife has expressed an interest in getting into metal detecting and I'm trying to decide which would be better to start out on. She is at retirement age, like me, but small framed (short and sweet). Detector weight is a consideration and she has never detected before, so easy to use and light would be best. Would the Vanquish 540, Apex, or Simplex+ be a better choice? Which would you recommend and why? Thanks!
