  1. Tones or ID, ? initially I considered tones was the go, then I took the RC on my Deus and put it in a wrist band (mobile phone one) on the left wrist so as it can watched more closely whilst swinging. Now I go by both tones and ID, be even better if I could mount the CTX screen on the wrist, as its Fe & Co ID with target trace seems much more accurate to me. I am talking about park hunting where the less digs the better. Also not having a Nox as yet I am off thread a wee bit but it sure is our individual hunting styles that make ones MDs weakness another's strength and vice-versa.
  2. From my viewpoint and I suspect a lot of MD users viewpoint, the SDs, GPs, GPXs gained a lot of purchasers because after-market coils were available, eg. it appears the 4500 has had a lot of sales on the back of the "new age" coils since they closed the performance gap somewhat with the Z, sales I suspect not just brought about by the price drop. Be good to see that with the EQ and of course the GPZ or any detector, I am particularly keen on NFs SDC coil being a goer. Also of course as Steve points out, a manufacturer cannot let these aftermarket accessories deter users from purchasing their product.
  3. Could be just the water ...........................now I`ll never be able to admit to the same once I`ve an EQ. Off on a bit of a tangent, something I`ve not got my head around reading the manual is there a screen that shows the GB "ID" of the ground and the current position "ID" you have the GB in, allowing you to manually adjust the GB to the grounds "ID" either positive/neutral/negative as suits you. Somewhat like the h/s screen on the Deus (XP call it "ground mineralization index") and I believe some other detectors have this feature also.
  4. Crikey, MN if I was near I`d have you stoned............nah only joking. Good one, but I`m a wee concerned about you folks.
  5. Perhaps of interest, a "story" told from the early gold field days in NQ OZ, 4 Chinese men were seen carrying a hessian covered heavy object overland to the Port of Cooktown ( took them weeks apparently) to send off to China, rumor has it when they come across someone they`d put it down and sit on it. Myth, reality or what, we`ll never know, but how big was it...............
  6. Steve please send your EQ to RR, PM me the date & time he`ll receive it.
  7. Why buy a equinox?.....I guess it boils down to, in my earning life I bought something because I needed it to earn but in my hobby life it is because I want it to enjoy.
  8. Simply put as BB said the 5000 was the best until the GPZ7000 came along, and BBs TIP to start in factory settings is the go, don`t fiddle with settings until your happy and scoring in default. It is an easy machine to use and is a killer in our NQ AU ground, I too am a NQer.
  9. That`s it BB, I`m mounting a culler on the drone............ But seriously you`ve nailed it just a matter of learning the ropes and giving it a go, I see Boeing has got in the act and have a payload drone. https://www.theverge.com/2018/1/10/16875382/boeing-drone-evtol-cav-500-pounds
  10. I`ve a Phantom 3 but same here gotta be able to see it to control for me, maybe tis just a matter of getting some "flying" hours under the belt. Time will tell.
  11. I want one that I can hop on and fly the Z, dog & me in anywhere then follow me around like the dog to take me home again at end of the day ........safely
  12. Must be the day for it, was emailed the below link just today. http://www.allconfs.org/img1/2013117164230635.pdf Remember years ago sort of shrugged off a theory that some nuggets are formed by bacteria doing their thing, nature at work.
  13. Oh, no............... GHs hide...... get out go elsewhere...... this is my hidey hole............. SS pack the lads Z and book its own flight........just book it to Virgin, ML, me whoever pleaseeeeeeeeeeeee
  14. Nah, had it with an agent for a bit, waste of time only "tyre kickers" looking for a bargain. Into the dolly pot and smelted ended up yielding 42.314 ozs gold, 4.442 ozs silver. Was just solid with a bit of quartz smeared on outside. IDd, was a big unbelievable Wow, in fringe country that historically has no alluvials and only microscopic gold in quartz, I had only just started the day and was going to camp out a few days, rushed home pronto to show the Missus.
  15. Back 20 years plus found this beauty. Was detecting a small dry gully, had got a few small pieces up at head of, when the detector signaled a "horseshoe", "biscuit tin" no way could it be gold as I swung at top of a small about 1m high dry waterfall. On looking over the side I could see this piece of smooth quartz-gold jammed in amongst the other rocks. I posted this and few others back a few years here but as this is my biggest sunbaker here it is again.
  16. Have been charging MDs with solar panels since the 80s whilst camped out, have fixed mounted solar panels on vehicle that through a solar regulator charge a dedicated deep cycle battery which in turn runs a low voltage refrigerator, night lights and chargers for MDs, boosters, UHF radios, GPSs etc etc. Not cheap to setup but hassle free power in camp, one con is vehicle must be parked out in the sun rather then under a shady tree.
  17. Yep got it, had to look for a bit, but clear as once the eyes had found it.
  18. Thank you Steve, I was either selling the SDC and getting a QED or changing it to what I believe is what most of us wanted. Especially with the hopeful release of the NF SDC coil. No doubt the Z is my main gold detector, now I also have a lightweight & easy to swing PI for those areas the Z just can`t get at, although a bit agricultural in looks it is very functional. I suspect I will use it a lot more now, well until ML make that smaller coil we seek for the Z. It was a very easy mod., the basic guts of the SDC have not been changed at all, so to put it back in its original form would take probably 2 hours max. No wires were cut, no soldering or alterations of the CBs, just so easy to do for anyone that is handy with their hands.
  19. Modded SDC has been field tested and proved itself AOK after these few refinements, have replaced original made up armrest with a GM1000 Monster armrest, much more comfy, also because it was operating with bugger all range have removed the Pro-sonic tranii from inside and placed externally. I suspect internally it was being influenced by the SDCs electronics. As per the photo below it now has, as its power supply the flat pack 2700Mah on the left, rather than the 2x18650s on the right, this allows the simple USB charger (in the fore) to be used and further cuts the weight. With this battery pack a days run time is no drama whereas the 18650s give near 2 days run time and can be easily used should they be needed. I am very happy with this mod, the SDC is much lighter, more stable in operation, more powerful and no longer a beast to swing, if the NF coil that is currently being trialed is a success this will be purchased and fitted, I feel the center mounted coil over the SDCs original will further enhance this mod.
  20. I`d suspect a faulty battery firstly if not related to your charger. Have you tried plugging into an usb charge port other then the ML charger?
  21. Seems to be there is a fair bit of money going into hearing advances. "Smart" headphones such as this Kickstarter company now produce, they were well oversubscribed when they sought startup capital. Money talks, suspect we will see some serious hearing advancements in the future, perhaps help us folk hear that elusive nugget https://www.wired.com/story/nura-nuraphones-headphones/ Although the freedom of not using headphones has got me trialing this pretty neat speaker/booster combo. Being rechargeable via USB and compact they appealed to me and so far are spot on. http://www.vkteksolutions.com/
  22. Unusual piece from Marble Bar WA, looks a bit like a burger that has been pressed a bit.
  23. Your not alone Steve, buggered if I know what the lads on about but the ZEQ............ that is priceless and I suspect will stick. Fred, from my travels of OZ, Marble Bar, lovely surrounding country, sweet gold and a town with character.
