10 Million Acre Mineral Withdrawal
mn90403 replied to Clay Diggins's topic in Detector Prospector Forum
Is there a map of the area? -
JR The big coils from an earlier time, the old Datsuns you might even say a generation ago but some of you are still out there finding the big chunks. When do you think Reg first started finding gold? Who was his mentor? When did you find your first nugget? Mitchel

JR Thank you for the posting. Mitchel

Norvic, You and Paul need to give all of us an update on your Bogene's and the 19. JW might like it. I know I will. Mitchel

Kudos To Minelab Customer Service - Australia / USA
mn90403 replied to vanursepaul's topic in Minelab Metal Detectors
Paul, We all have fun with your stories because everything is going to be alright. You do good things for other people. Sometimes you don't think about yourself first and 'bad' things happen but then you and others do good things for you and the adventure ends up GOOD. I think you are a believer in the 'dark cloud has a silver lining' and we've seen some of those silver linings turn into gold! There's not much adventure in showing up to a spot, the tent is already up, the coffee is made and after 4 hours you are on to the next set. You make good lemonade. Everything is going to be ok. Thanks Paul. Mitchel -
Ben Nicoloson Using His New Gold Monster For The First Time

That doesn't look like a good place for a 19! Mitchel -
Gosh, if I dug a nugget and it was that dirty I'd throw it back! haha Thanks for more pics. Mitchel

Yes, I asked John B for one a couple of years ago and I'm still waiting. It would be a "good idea" if ICMJ or Steve would create a certificate we could put on our walls! hint, hint Mitchel

I just bought my second pair of these! This time they are the desert color but they have black. NO METAL and it keeps out the twigs and cactus. Magnum Men's Stealth Force 8.0 Boot

That is quite an accomplishment. Well done and just another half day hunt. Just think what you could have done with a full day hunt! When you do a half day is it morning or afternoon? I'm glad to report I'm a member of that club as well with a couple of finds but they are rare over here. They are getting more rare. Mitchel

Antics aside (if possible) his videos will take you to more places than you'll ever go. He is prolific! His knowledge is not hidden but coated with a humor that can be somewhat tasteless or even a sour taste but it is nourishing and quenches a certain thirst. It's not cool spring water on a hot day. Nugget Detecting Training November 3 At Rye Patch
mn90403 replied to Steve Herschbach's topic in Detector Prospector Forum
I've taken training from Lunk at Rye Patch. There were 3 of us and we all got a little gold but we got some great experience and Lunk's famous settings! We had a range of detectors (not just Zeds) so if you have a 2300, Monster or other brand, they can probably train you on it. Mitchel -
One way to make the UR-30s fit a little better is to wear them over some kind of hat or cap. I do that often and will take my WM12 or 10 and hang that from the cap as well. You can roll up the cord and attach or not to headphones. This lets you have a 'headset' with or without headphones. The distance to the coils is greatest this way. Mitchel

Quality of equipment does matter but how much? The other day a friend of mine said he had just listened to a $150,000 stereo system installed at a house somewhere here is Los Angeles. I said that is great, I only have $10,000 ears! How much 'quality' do we need vs 'quantity' when it comes to a metal detector's audio response?

What are the two speakers you use Fred?

Phones are the electronics I see with more and more bang for your buck. Before that it was a laptop computer and before that were the desktops! Mitchel

I can hear the UR-30s when the wire is not broken. It is also comfortable and yes sometimes a little loose. These will be good backups but Lu likes hers. I have the Gray Ghosts and they are simply too tight. They also don't work and I don't think they can be exchanged like the Koss's. My main headphones right now are a Superlux HD 668B. These work well with the 3030 and Zed because the volume controls are good. I have not used them yet with JP's booster. (I don't know why I bought it actually. What did you say? haha) Mitchel

I don't see anything about logging on to websites. I had problems with some Apple apps a few months back when they went to 'two level' security for identity purposes. Something similar was asked of me for using my Google Chrome browser. My only message lately is from Microsoft when they tell me Edge is faster than Chrome. Mitchel

Over the years I have bought several new and used Minelabs. They have all come with Koss UR30 headphones. Many of these have broken and I have replaced them sometimes from Minelab and sometimes directly from Koss. Today I sent off 2 pairs to Koss. They charge $9 for each pair and they will send you new replacements. You have to send them your old headphones. Minelab had sent me a pair in the past just because I told them one pair was not working. They didn't want to have the old ones. You can call Koss at 800-872-5677 and their website is https://www.koss.com/ Don't detect this season without your headphones working properly. Mitchel

Chris, You took the protection supplied by Minelab off? What is there ... glass? Could you put an anti-glare scratch saver on that? I've noticed when I use polarized sunglasses that it is not always as visible as I would like. It is worse when a layer of dust obscures the view. Mitchel

Has anyone tried the 'fix' of going back to the old software to do the xchange and then going to the new software for the settings? When I upgraded I was surprised to see all of my previous find and waypoints there. They were not erased. Since that time I have had the screen replaced by Minelab because of the pixel problem so all of my points were gone. As to the screen problem, most of my problem was solved by placing a non-glare, phone-type screen protector on and I can see it most of the day with a little bit of an angle tilt but how often do you need to look? This isn't a 3030 screen where you can see the target. I guess you look a lot if you are using the GPS and doing an electronic grid. This is a hear it machine. If you can't hear it you are not going to find it. Mitchel

Great gold Chris. Very pretty on the scale ... I guess that was after cleaning? Well to add to the 19 sensitivity stories, I had some new shoes and used the 14 with no problem. Later in the day I switched to the 19 and found a tiny nugget with it but I also noticed it was 'falsing' on my swing. I couldn't understand it and then I swung my foot with the metal free shoes over the coil and ... voila ... signal. It turns out the new model added a metal loop at the top of the shoe (the old shoe did not have metal) and I had to take those shoes back. It is big and sensitive. I need to swing it more often but ONLY with a hip stick. Mitchel
