  1. I just gave them an ear full by email! I got an immediate email back saying that management would be made aware. We'll see.
  2. What I 'meant' was is this my opportunity to outline to Fisher the problems I had with mine and the reason why it cost me money? Should I tell them about their customer service and ... I'm quite an unhappy, unsold former customer and I feel they never heard or addressed my complaints. It is obvious that the new AQ team at Fisher has not read this forum. They should.
  3. I got an email today from Fisher. They said they have AQs available for me to purchase! Now ... how should I reply? haha
  4. This is close to what I saw but I was much closer and it came directly at me and then passed by me on a clear night and you could see pieces tumbling! It had separated by the time it reached me like the end of this video but it was low and getting near the end of visibility except for the lead piece which must have been more dense as it just cruised on into the darkness.
  5. Well done and displayed. Specimens to nuggets and enhanced value in the process. Have you had offers?
  6. I applaud Dan for making his choice. If I would have done the same thing back in November I would have saved myself some grief and $$. When I got my AQ I went straight out to the beach the same day I got it. I used all the presets and just went out and found junk on my local beaches in wet sand. Two days later my wife gave birth and I had to wait a couple of weeks before I could use it again. I got similar results on my damp sand beaches. I tried some different settings and tried to get used to the wired headphones getting in the way of my digging targets. A couple of days later I went out again and noticed that I could not hear a threshold. I never had one. On my 4th try I took 5 rings to the beach that had moderate black sand but had not been a problem for my EQ800 and I did some testing. I was very surprised at the results which were poor in my estimation. I have pictures of each of these trips and of the tests I did. I still didn't get a threshold. I did find one Ruth Bader Ginsberg gold plated charm that was only about 2 inches below the surface. I could have bought it for less than the $300 loss cost me. It was time to call Rick who had me call Fisher. A couple of days later after some phone tag I was told to send the unit back to El Paso. At the end of the week I got it off and I was told that Christmas and New Year were coming and there were too many in front of me to expect anything before January. Like I said I have other detectors so I wasn't in a hurry but I was also reading and Steve puts his up for sale. I'm reading more and other people have problems with their pots and things and I've become a 'don't wanter' now. I'm not going to be a water hunter any time soon and I'm thinking when this gets fixed why not just move this detector on to someone else. Maybe they could offer the warrant to another user. So I make a tentative deal with Rick and we wait. We wait and hear nothing. He's talking with them and hears nothing and its now over 2 months. I'm not calling or saying much other than to a couple of guys here on the forum and I wait. I hear more problems. Then to my surprise one day in early March I have a package. It is the detector. We don't know why it was sent to me as it was to be sent to Rick. I didn't get any calls and I have no idea what has been done. Rick tells me to look at the packing slip. The only thing is says is 'Replaced PCB Board.' Well, as far as I know there is only one board on this detector so they replaced the board. It said it was tested. I DON'T WANT IT. What else could go wrong? I have no way to talk to Fisher. They explained nothing to me and as far as I know Rick. I also don't want to publicize my misgivings about a prototype and detail my test results. I didn't advertise it for sale but I sold it. I didn't even try it when I got it back. I hope the user finds it more usable than I did. We still have a Fisher Gold Bug Pro. As far as I know Steve still has it on one of his recommended lists. As far as this detector goes I'd now have to concur again with Steve. It needs to be better than it is for me to keep it.
  7. I don't know what it is (Chase gave you a better idea than I can) but it is not like any meteorite that I have found. Here is a search of meteorites found: 21 records found for meteorites from Canada with places that are exactly "Ontario" (click on a name for more information; click in header to sort) Blithfield Official 1910 Ontario, Canada EL6 1830 g Brent ** Crater >453 Ma Ontario, Canada Impact Crater From EIDB De Cewsville Official Y 1887 Ontario, Canada H6 340 g Dresden (Ontario) Official Y 1939 Ontario, Canada H6 47.7 kg Grimsby ** Official Y 2009 Ontario, Canada H5 215 g 97 Hagersville ** Official 1999 Ontario, Canada Iron, IAB complex 30 kg 86 Holleford ** Crater 550 ± 100 Ma Ontario, Canada Impact Crater From EIDB Kitchener ** Official Y 1998 Ontario, Canada L6 203 g 84 Madoc Official 1854 Ontario, Canada Iron, IIIAB 168 kg Manitouwabing ** Official 1962 Ontario, Canada Iron, IIIAB 39 kg 26 Midland ** Official 1960 Ontario, Canada Iron 34 g 50 Osseo Official 1931 Ontario, Canada Iron, IAB complex 46.3 kg Rainy River ** Official 2000 Ontario, Canada Iron, IAB complex 3.26 kg 104 Shelburne Official Y 1904 Ontario, Canada L5 18.6 kg Slate Islands ** Crater ~450 Ma Ontario, Canada Impact Crater From EIDB Southampton ** Official 2001 Ontario, Canada Pallasite 3.58 kg 87 Sudbury ** Crater 1850 ± 3 Ma Ontario, Canada Impact Crater From EIDB Thurlow Official 1888 Ontario, Canada Iron, IIIAB 5.5 kg Wanapitei ** Crater 37.2 ± 1.2 Ma Ontario, Canada Impact Crater From EIDB Welland Official 1888 Ontario, Canada Iron, IIIAB 8.2 kg Wood Lake Official 2003 Ontario, Canada H4 350 g 97 Observed falls documented prior to 2015 have a Y in the fall column. ** Click on the meteorite's name to see the full initial description. There are no meteorites with London and Canada in their name. New meteorites are found all the time but one way to first check if you have a meteorite or not is to see if you have a piece of an already identified meteorite. You can also look at Google Earth and find that location for a meteorite and if it is on searchable land recover a piece for yourself. Are any of the falls near London?
  8. Thank klunk. Er ... should I say thanks for what ... those dang birds haven't been in Southern California in many, many years. I think I'm going to look for them one day up in your area but I don't know when. I'm sure Paul will be up there looking for the nests soon.
  9. That was going to be the title of my post ... FIND OF THE YEAR! haha
  10. Over on the 6000 threads they are showing a few pictures of attractive detectorists. (You don't need to know how to use a detector in order to be a detectorist.) One picture I saw had been significantly photo-shopped. There is a bit of grumbling about the use of models rather than REAL detectorists. Here is a REAL detectorist. I showed her how to hold the detector and the scoop! What a FIND! I had just a junk chain at this point but I hunted my way back to finish my 2 hour hunt and I got a small little hit. Sometimes you just have to go slow. It turned out to be a 10K .78g (.5 pw) earring at about 6 inches. This is my first gold in a couple of years with the Avantree headphones. They are quite a bit different sounding for me. It affects all the targets I hear and it also affects the pinpointing. I don't know if they are 'better or worse' than the Minelab headphones but they are different. As I was leaving the beach I got an odd signal which became more familiar but you just have to dig them once in a while. It got deeper and deeper so I suspected what it was and I confirmed it. A can at 20 inches or so. This was my haul for the 2 hours. There were a couple of steel earrings about 10 feet apart and a rusty chain which I scooped in half with the big scoop. That is a problem with the tank scoop. It will go through most everything. Be careful out there and never photo shop. Mitchel
  11. I don't know what to tell you other than markets and technology move on. I think the people at Minelab which have been there from the beginning and the new people that have been added make for a mix now that still produces quality detectors from a marketing and technological standpoint. There are not too many people who would 'trade back' the latest detector for an old one if they have had a chance to use the new ones. I still have all my old ones that I don't use any more ... or at least not much. You enjoy a 'sweet spot' of using a powerful detector (the 5000) and most admit the number of adjustment on it are daunting. I have one too. (I also had one of the AQs like you have but sold it. So I'm not only stuck on Minelab.) When the 7000 came out (it was not a continuation number) I stopped using my 5000 but I'm also aware that the 7000 does not make a good relic detector. I can't use it at the beach either. Maybe this 6000 should have been named something else like Gold Demon then there would be 'less' expected of it as a continuation of a line of detectors. I'm certain that the 6000 will find its fans and its gold or Minelab would not put out such a high end detector. Their 'new' market has to be younger people than us with a few extra thousands to just take a couple of weekends a year and go out and find several ounces of gold. It may happen. Look at all the new finds in England this past year with the lockdowns. The 'proof' in the 6000 will be its ability to ignore bad ground conditions. If you can 'turn it on and go' as a high end machine like a Vanquish then they are one step closer to the holy grail. This means it will ignore salt, mineralization, hot rocks and other impediments to gold prospectors. I hope there is someone like you who will make it work for relics too and it can be made to ignore iron but I haven't read much about that. Maybe with fewer adjustments it will just be a better detector for more than just gold.
  12. Has anyone done any work or sluicing with the 'swirl capture' design?
  13. Victoria still has some gold. I didn't find much of it but maybe I needed these new maps! https://www.miragenews.com/new-prospecting-guide-could-be-worth-its-weight-538393/
  14. There might be a 'play' of getting permission in exchange for information. I know the properties around Rye Patch that are claimed by some of the larger mining companies are surface open without consequence. A smaller mining company might care more than the large ones.
  15. I am not affiliated with this company nor am I an investor. I do like a map they have put together. It shows gold 'finds' all over norther Nevada with the center in Winnemucca. They want investors and I liked reading some of the discovery info. What do you think? I took a 'day trip' one Sunday north of Winnemucca leaving from Rye Patch. It is a long distance up there. Getting back I drove on the longest dirt road I've ever been on. I know they are much longer in Australia but this road was a 'short cut' with 80 miles of nothing. I should not have done it alone. It wasn't in the summer but I still wouldn't do it again. https://investingnews.com/company-profiles/bald-eagle-gold-tsxv-big/
  16. I'm not 'reacting' until I see a picture ... real not preferred.
  17. Now this is a somewhat subjective category but maybe we can make our own and add others. What do you think is a famous meteorite? I would say Meteor Crater in Arizona. The meteorites in question are actually called Canyon Diablos. Here is a list from LiveScience and it doesn't include Canyon Diablos. https://www.livescience.com/15445-fallen-stars-gallery-famous-meteorites.html
  18. So what caused it to break away? Here is more on that theory. https://www.sciencemag.org/news/2021/03/remains-impact-created-moon-may-lie-deep-within-earth
  19. Thanks Steve. When I went to use them they would not turn on or respond with long or short term holding of the on/off button.
  20. I have several charging cables and chargers and it will not charge/light up on any of them.
  21. This has been my feeling for years. It is the worst product Minelab makes. (At least of the ones I've tried.) You need to use the spelling Pro-Find in searching this subject also.
  22. This comes from good target results. It is how you use your detector to interrogate your targets. There are simply beaches without good targets. It may take you 5 times to a big beach to find that out and move on to another beach that does have good targets. How patient are you? What is your time worth?
  23. It is always difficult to leave a good spot and look for new but it has to happen when results lessen. This spot was certainly a good go but maybe it gives you ideas about other places with more or less targets. It's been fun watching you get these goodies. Mitchel
