  1. Gerry: VERY nice specimen. If it were mine I would NOT crush it. And if I were to slab it, I would use a very thin kerf saw blade to minimize rock loss. By the way, did you find that beauty with a PI or VLF machine?
  2. Thanks for doing this work and I am looking forward to the next installment.
  3. Here are a few additional references on ancient Tertiary river channels that provide a little additional insight. 4. Even though I do frequent multiple sub-forums and also use the search function, from a research perspective I do appreciate the cross-link feature. Thank you Steve for your efforts.
  5. Steve: Thank you for your input, information, link and perspective. Based on this information I will simply use what I have and continue the nugget hunt. I just wanted to be certain that I had a reasonable selection of coils while they were still available. Steven
  6. I am interested to learn more about the 7.5-inch mono versus the 7.5-inch Aussie coils that are available for the TDI series. Is there an advantage of one coil design over the other when hunting for nuggets? I have the standard 12-inch dual field and also a Super Pulse 150 coil and am curious whether I should add either or both of these coils to my collection? Or should I purchase one of the new Nugget Finder 8x6 Sadie mono coils? Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated.
  7. VERY nice find! Thanks for sharing and congratulations on your success. 🙂
  8. Geof: Interesting question and interesting first article. I personally have never read of anyone making a 4-D coil so I am curious if such a configuration has been investigated and if so what were the results? I was unable to access the second link. Thanks for posting an intellectually stimulating question.
  9. As I peruse this thread I just wanted to say thanks to all of the contributors for the good advice. 🙂
  10. Congratulations on your find of a very unique specimen. If it were my find I think I would leave it as-is and not remove the nugget. It may be worth more as a unique specimen. Just food for thought. In any case best wishes for continued success in the area.
  11. Thanks for sharing your experiences and I'm glad that there were no ill effects on your detector.
  12. Because no one has yet replied to your question, I thought I'd give it a try. I do not have a handle, but in a prior life I custom manufactured antique car parts. If you can find a picture of the handle, especially if you can get dimensions, it may be possible to have one custom made. Even without dimensions, it is possible to make a reasonable reproduction. Just food for thought. Best Wishes on your search and use of the equipment.
  13. Congratulations on your nice finds, especially the silver and finding a new untouched area. It is always a thrill to be the first into an area. Best wishes for additional finds.
  14. Geof and Steve: Thank you very much for your help. Much appreciated.
  15. In addition to nugget hunting I am also a history buff and I would like to learn more about metal detector technology, its history and sequence of development. I understand that the BFO (Beat Frequency Oscillator) technology was used in the very early metal detectors. Right now I would like to learn what is the difference between TR (transmitter receiver), induction balance, and VLF technologies and when was each one introduced to the market. Is there anywhere where I can find a list of manufacturers, the models (technology) they offered and date range they were offered? I have searched the forum without success. Is there a link to a thread or article that I have missed? Thanks in advance for your help.
  16. GoldSeeker5000 and Aureous: thanks for your input and recommendations.
  17. Goldseeker 5000: I have the 4x6 oval, the 6" round, the 6x10 oval and the 14" oval coils.
  18. I am looking for some guidance on what coil size to use when I go into an area for the first time. I am using a White's Goldmaster 24k and have a complete set of coil sizes. I would be working in either Nevada or Arizona. When I enter an area for the first time I do not know if it has been worked previously or is virgin ground. Does this information affect my coil size choice? Should I plan to make just one pass over an area or two passes using a large coil first and then a smaller coil? I don't want to miss a larger deep target and I would also like to find the smaller near surface targets. I am assuming that if I see signs of dry washer activity that a smaller coil would be a good first pass choice, am I correct? Thanks in advance for your advice.
  19. Thanks for sharing and congratulations on the find. Yes, Two Toes crevice tools are really nice and well made.
