Perfect day for a trip out back to the hill over the river about 200 yards behind my house. It's unusual to have a day in July that the temperature doesn't get over 80 in Virginia, but today was just that. Strong north breeze. The river was full of boaters and jet skis, so that was out. I swear the Coiltek 10x5 is awesome, I've been over this area before. Lots of junk today, some really big metal I didn't photograph, but this was what remained, the ratio of junk to finds was kinda high. None of this was masking anything however. Nice old hatchet head, is there a market for these? So far I've dug 3 axe heads and this one from this hill. Of course the obligatory mason jar lids. Finds were kinda cool, worth a post anyway: First thing I dug was the pendant, it's cast metal of some kind but not precious, The more I cleaned it the more black it got. It was a 22. .32 ACP live round again, the second I've dug here. Maybe I'll find the pistol 😀 Brass buckle of some kind, stamped, late 1800s to mid 1900s. Maybe a purse decoration/clasp or something. Brass cap, not sure what for, and a small adjustment wheel I found with some watch parts. Think I found some of the watch a while back. One piece said "made in USA". The most interesting to me was the thimble, it says "Coolidge And Dawes". It was a political campaign thimble given out in 1924. It was a 20/21 so I think it's copper with plating. It was right near the edge of the cliff. This is what it looked like new. The are a lot of nails and iron bits at this site, as well as it being a dump, there was a house here long ago. The 10x5 seems to really be able to sniff out the small stuff. Its ability to "sort" in high trash is an asset.

Great find! They get really fancy, some have a Knight's head on top. Templars... 😀 Any other stuff aside from the silver Rosie or all clad? That's a heckuva place you have there. 4th of July will keep me out of the river, too many boats.

I've only ever found 2 mercs and a 1857 Trime. Oldest was 1917, and it has a big black stain on it. Found it with the Trime. The other is a 1943. Put the '17 on a snake chain with a bezel, I often wear it for good luck. Hope I find a Barber. They're some pretty coins. Congrats. 👍

Finally got around to investigating this odd piece of iron I dug a couple days ago. At first I thought it was a leaf spring, then "Lensed" it, and some sword crossguards came up. Couldn't find an iron one, and this one has a slight curve in its length as well as its width. This morning I took a wire brush to it, and lettering appeared: It reads "iron age". Looked that up, and found this: In the early 1900s there was a company that made farm and garden tools called Iron Age. This must be a part of one of these tools/machines. Usually I don't investigate iron I dig, but I'm glad I did this time. 😀

Had one of those days myself in the river. Unless I go deeper there isn't much going on. Tried beach 1 underwater today, the 10x5 sees things a bit differently.

Heh, an ominous precursor of the current state of confusion, or does it make sense? An "unsexed" ID means the animal was spayed or neutered, thus making it possible for it to serve wine at orgies. It also saves ya 5 bucks. 🤣

Thanks! Been looking into it, and you're probably right. It only weighs 1.6g or 1/2 ounce. Kinda light for it to be pure. It could also be an earring, there are two small flaws, one on each side, where something may have been attached. You can see the dark spot in the closeup. The irregular pattern on the outside stops there. I have older dog tags but no year on them. I can probably get info on the numbers at the county records office. We're in a really small town, with history back to the 1600s.

Here's the trash. It was a dig it all day. 😀 Another Virginia Axe head, other odd bits and car parts. Of course a Mason jar lid.

I'm thinking 10k. It would be mixed up to 50% with copper, nickel, and silver. That would explain the tarnish with silver cleaner. Guess I'll have to make a trip to the jeweler again, they said bring finds anytime.

Thus far no silver here. I have dug IHPs and wheats. The trash was all big iron, I'll add a pic later. Wicked hot and humid today. Looks like the mower did the ticks in, but I did have to move some old 3" thick poison ivy vine that fell from a tree. 🤬

Mowed the top of The hill over the river I call Mason Jar Hill because of all the Mason jars I have dug there. I beat the heck out of this area with my 11" standard Equinox coil. Today I went back to see if the 10x5 would make a fool of me. It sure did 😀 1932 female dog tag, lucky watch fob from GRIT Family Newspaper in the 1930s, thimble made of aluminum, B&O railroad button, I think a grommet ring, .32 ACP live round, harmonica reed fragment, belt buckle lock. The ring was a solid 13 and pretty much right on top of the ground. It was gold colored when I picked it up, and cleaning it just made it more and more gold. It's probably not pure (10k) as a bit of tarnish came off when I tried silver polish, but it just got even brighter. The inside is highly polished and smooth and the outside appears to have a casting seam surrounding it. I thought it might be a pipe cutoff but it is smooth and waxy feeling. No purity marks, the story of my life so far. 😵 It is small, according to my wife about a size 5. Welcome Metal Detecto! "Chase Goldman" is the stand-in admin while Steve Herschbach, the forum owner, is on walkabout in Alaska. Poke around to see what they post. "Chase" mentored me a bit, we live fairly close. You seem to be a bright young man, great to see someone starting so early. Lots of great stuff going on here, usually on the weekends because most of us work. There are retirees like me who are out a lot. Happy Hunting to you. Hope to see some posts of what you discover out there! It would be fascinating to see finds from Korea.

Hi GP, and welcome. 🙂 A short bio/intro is appreciated in the Meet and Greet for first time posters. There may not be an all- encompassing solution for you. You didn't say what pinpointer you have, some pinpointers use streaming WiFi, others Bluetooth, and are generally sold as sets with the headphones and detector. Had you browsed the forum you would have seen many posts on just this subject. I'll offer what I do, It's too hot this time of year to wear over ear headphones so I wear on ear headphones (SoundBlaster Jam V2 - $39 Amazon) and I can hear my pinpointer just fine. Others just switch their Garrett Carrot or whatever to vibrate only and go with that. Seems to me I have never had a problem hearing the Carrot over my on ear headphones, so there's that. 🤔 Used it all winter. A detector so noisy that it interrupts your pinpointing is a sign of heavy EMI, or improper Ground Balance and noise cancelling.
