  1. "Look for gold where gold has been found before." That is the number one key to someone starting out in their search for gold. Takes out a lot of guess work with a higher chance of finding something. Research is definitely required for places to go. Gary "two toes" has to be one of the best on you tube. Very down to earth, no ego or over inflated BS & explains it all so simply & with great tips & hints. Shares many home made methods of making equipment & gear he users. I have followed him for years. Nice to revisit this video. Thanks Gold Catcher. D4G
  2. I don't think it is a matter of how small it needs to be but just what is left out there to be found at all. D4G
  3. Effort & reward. You have to put in the hard yards & go the extra mile. No other way around it. D4G
  4. Most people, if not all, hate flies. If they are going to be a problem to you & you can't deal with them then I don't think it is going to matter what your choice of travel/accommodation would be. This possibly isn't going to be for you. There are one or two flies out there. But to answer your question I would say a caravan towed by a real 4X4, as you can park it up, detach & use it as a base. There are some great off road type set ups in Aussie. If you had a ute type 4x4 or flat deck you could also pack in a quad bike to get even more remote in difficult terrain. Depends how serious you are. D4G
  5. MMMmm, talking of JP. I wonder if he got an E1500, & if so what his thoughts are on it. Does any one know? D4G
  6. As per the video link Jin put up. 👍 Exactly as I do it. D4G
  7. As deathly quiet as it is Simon hasn't inundated us with gold finds. So while this detector has all these cool functions the gold isn't flooding in like it has been with the GPX 6000 & the amounts of small gold it has been rewarding people with. Despite the E1500 being about a third of the price, at the end of the day it is the gold count that matters to a lot of people. It is actually a sad state of affairs that we are now gloating over detectors that find the smallest most tiniest bits of gold. D4G
  8. You could also get your 4500 modified by Woody of Detector Mods. Redz has mentioned Woody's EMI filter. D4G
  9. Hi guys. I came across this on you tube. This could be a game changer for those deeper big slugs. D4G
  10. Yes, sad news to hear of Toby Keith's passing. He had been dealing with stomach cancer for a while. RIP Toby. D4G
  11. Yes, true that. It is interesting following the info he is giving on the E1500 & it is giving me a good handle on it for gold here in NZ. Do I get one, or not? We are both on the same land mass so it is very good info for me. Thank you Phrunt. D4G
  12. I am guessing that you found no gold as you haven't posted about it, & I am sure you would have had you found some. Obviously you had a long day looking but came up empty handed on the gold. If you were hunting old past producing grounds then this detector is no miracle machine despite its cool features. How was your shotgun pellet count? If getting pellets then there is every possibility that each one of those signals could have been a piece of gold. D4G
  13. Thank you schoolofhardNox. There in lies the truth. Life threatening chemicals & not as much gold on electronics as people may think. D4G
  14. Or just silicon on the velcro straps & they will always be there & wont move & will fit any cable thickness & most people have these as they often come with a detector or coil. D4G
  15. I couldn't agree more Steve but that is the difference between doing this for money or doing it as a hobby. I would have at a guess that most hobbies don't make money but are done because the people doing it see it as an escape from their usual daily grind. Food for the soul. Be it fishing, hunting, hiking, skiing etc. A lot of those activities come at quite a high cost. Fishing involves having a boat with all the expenses that go with owning & running a boat. Would be cheaper just to buy the fish from a shop, but it isn't always about just catching a fish. It is the whole journey with some mates & the places you go to. Same with gold detecting. Depends how you look at it why you are really doing it. Gold detecting involves hiking, gets you out doors, you experience the 4 seasons in all its glory & what nature offers in those 4 seasons. The Autumn colours , the spring time blooming of wild flowers, the critters you see etc. Ok, the gold has a value but so to do the other things out there. Like I said, food for the soul. Not everything is about money for everybody But I get your point. D4G
  16. Another good reason to test a 2nd hand coil before buying is that it may be getting sold because it has developed issues. I have been down that track. D4G
  17. No, but it will with its newer technology find gold missed by other detectors on old patches. Look at the success of the 6000. Most new release gold detectors/coils have that ability to bring old patches back to coughing up a few more bits. Maybe not as big but often lots of smaller stuff. It all adds up. D4G
  18. That's a very good point. Re the cable ties. I think people are really over thinking this but I will add what I have used. Quick & simple but don't tell my wife. I have used her hair ties, but without the metal bit that is in the photo.
  19. Phrunt, I am very disappointed. You have left out a very important fact in this first outing review. Where is the photo of all the shotgun pellets you found & what was the gold to pellet ratio? Sorry, that makes it two important facts. 😂 D4G
