  1. Since I am new here, I wanted my first post(other that the meet and greet post) to hopefully be a contribution and perhaps help a few folks. One of the most annoying things when using a corded set of headphones is catching the cord on brush and whatever else it might be attracted to. Well, I recently discovered there was such a thing as wireless headphones but could not find any that I thought I would be satisfied with, so with some research, this is what I came up with. I bought a Taotronics blue tooth transmitter $29.95, a set of Cowen noise canceling low latency blue tooth headphones $59.99 and a Moborest 1/4" male to 1/8" female stereo adapter $9.98(2 to a pkg). Plugged adapter into my MXT, plugged transmitter into adapter, turned everything on including MXT, followed simple directions for pairing trans. to headphones and low and behold I now have wireless headphones for my detector. I put a small square of sticky back velcro on the transmitter(which is very small) and the another on the side of the machine and just stuck them together, to hold the trans. in place. The trans. can always be unplugged and remover if warranted. I found everything on Amazon. This may be old knowledge to some but I maybe there are a few folks this info. will help. Anyway, glad to be here and hope this will help someone. Su Amigo, Canoe
  2. Morning all, I have been looking for something that will essentially work like a WM08 (the Equinox wireless receiver) but on the GPX 6000. Something that can then simply have any type of earphone, earbud, on ear or over ear headphones attached to it. I specifically wish to plug some Philips Sports earbuds into a Receiver. They sit out of the ear to allow some ambient sound in so you are aware of surroundings. And don't sit inside your ear like a proper ear bud that can get all sweaty and yuck. I've used the Philips before and they are perfect for me. The supplied Minelab GPX 6000 headphones work great - but I'm not keen on headphones as they are hot and they make it difficult to wear a broad brimmed hat. I do recognise there are other hat options. The non Bluetooth options: The Quest kit is great ( http://phasetechnical.com.au/product/quest-wirefree-mate-kit/ ) and although I know they work really well, they definitely only pair with each other and I do not want to attach a Transmit unit to the GPX 6000 - possibility of EMI, an extra thing to get knocked off, an extra thing to charge and the functionality of a Bluetooth LL Transmitter is already in the GPX so why not use it!! 🤪 The Minelab Pro Sonic is too expensive and would need a Transmitter attached to the detector. The Garrett Z-Link - would also need a Transmitter attached to the detector. Bluetooth APTX Low Latency options: I have ordered the Avantree AS70 as it said they were due for release at the start of June. But since ordering (4 days ago) that has been changed to the end of July 😤 https://avantree.com/au/as70-bluetooth-adapter-for-headphones They are the latest version of the Clipper Pro previously mentioned on DP as having worked well. The Clipper Pro seems completely unavailable now. I like the look of the AS70 and Clipper Pro as they have a good clip that will attach to a shirt, collar, harness or whatever. There are these https://avantree.com/au/lock-bluetooth-transmitter-receiver-set but they are a pair and I wonder if the Receive unit will work directly with the GPX or will it only pair with the Transmit unit (it does say auto pairing with each other in the write up). Chase Goldman had previously mentioned these as working well: TaoTronics 65ft Bluetooth Transmitter/Receive https://www.amazon.com/dp/B076BMT9BY TROND Bluetooth V5.0 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01B4W40VC/ Newer version here https://www.amazon.com/TROND-Bluetooth-Transmitter-Indicator-Simultaneously-dp-B01K8ANDCI/dp/B01K8ANDCI/ref=dp_ob_title_ce I notice the TaoTronics is currently unavailable on Amazon. At this stage I may get one of the newer Trond units as that will at least be a back up for my upcoming big trip and may end up being my main unit if the Avantree does not turn up in time. There are a few others mentioned on this site http://www.aptx.com/ but some look el-cheapo, some are no longer made (the site is not kept up to date in that regard), none of them have a clip to attach to clothing and I am unsure if any of them actually pair with a Vanguish/Equinox/GPX6. Anything that pairs and works well in Low Latency with the Equinox/Vanquish should work well with the GPX 6000. Would be even happier if my Equinox WM08 just hooked up (shame on you Minelab 😜) So my questions, finally! What other brands have worked for people? Is the audio quality good? Manufacturing quality good? Somewhat weatherproof? Is the Low Latency good? Have they paired easily with no issues? What sort of time frame are the batteries lasting for most people? Hoping you good people can share some 1st hand experiences - good or bad - and this can be a one stop resource for others searching for a similar device. Cheers, N.E. 👍
  3. Ive trialed 5 different sets of APTX LL transmitters and headphone combos (2x M-Pow, 2x Avantree and one that looks very similar to the Taotronics one shown earlier in this thread) and ALL are crap. Every single one had lag that was waaay too noticeable for my liking. I want something that acts as quick as a standard set of headphones, with no perceptible lag. After spending over $400 searching for kit THAT WORKS, I gave up. Incredibly, I found an Ebay seller that specializes in recycling old electronics and I bought 2x pairs of 1980's era Hanimex dynamic 600ohm headphones. I remember them from my days using the Garrett Deepseeker and Groundhog A2B. Tried them on my 4500M and my 24K.....blown away, best set of headphones I've ever owned. Wish I could buy more lol. I just hope I can run them on my upcoming GPX6000
  4. I just bought a “TROND” brand aptx low latency receiver/transmitter for my Vanquish 540 and it seems to work really well. I got it on Amazon. Before I got the TROND, I ordered a TAOTRONICS brand and it was worthless. The coil would be a foot off the target before it would sound off. I sent it back to Amazon.
  5. Ok, so these turned up on Thursday - actually early - excellent! These things are much smaller and lighter than I was expecting which is nice. They easily sit in a top pocket or could be velcroed to a harness or something. Played with them Thursday night and they both connected but at home the GPX6 was going crazy with EMI so got out this arvo for a couple of hours to really see if they work properly. The SoundPeats - connect easy, very good sound quality, bring up the Bluetooth + sign on the GPX6. Used them for about 2 hours and they did not drop out a single time. Very happy with them. Obviously no comment re: battery time as yet. Not that it this is a downside for me, as I only brought these for detecting, but I cannot get them to Transmit from either the TV or the GPX6. If I wanted them for that I would be returning them but like I said, I have no intention for using them for anything except detecting. Maybe I need to clear device history or something but I won't bother. Another thing to note is that the audio coming through is just perfect using the Philips Sports 'sitting just out the ear' ear buds. Even a tiny bit louder and they would be too loud and this is with the GPX6 audio turned right down. Someone using in-ear ear buds might actually benefit from using a booster to turn the volume down a little. Most of you would know but these are purely a Transmitter/Receiver - there is no Volume control. The TaoTronics - I connected these at the end of the detecting session just to see if they work. One thing I have found is that I have to Factory Reset the GPX6 before trying to connect a different Bluetooth device otherwise it just keeps searching for ages. After a Factory Reset it connects quite quickly. The TaoTronics did connect and the audio was clear and a little louder than through the SoundPeats device (a little too loud). But, it would not connect with the Bluetooth + sign. After getting home and checking the Amazon write up I found this: LOW DELAY: Low Latency for High-fidelity Stereo Sound, lag-free content streaming in transmitter mode. Low Latency supported Bluetooth receiver is required. So, they are Low Latency but only in Transmitter Mode - missed that one. Incidentally, they do work perfectly well in Transmitter Mode and will therefore be used for TV so someone can watch the footy or a movie and not have the TV distracting someone else. So, a big YES vote for the SoundPeats being used as a Receiver for the GPX6. A big NO vote for the Tao Tronics due to no Low Latency when used in Receive mode. A medium YES vote for the little bits of yella found for the evening 😀 0.64 grams.
  6. Just ordered this https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B08ZMPD4N1/ref=ppx_od_dt_b_asin_title_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and this https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B01EHSX28M/ref=ppx_od_dt_b_asin_title_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 The TaoTronics and Soundpeats versions of a Low Latency Receiver - both about $35 Australian dollars. Apparently going to be here by this Friday but I'll believe it when I see it. If all goes well though, will be able to test on the weekend. I was keen on the Trond but at $66 I figure I'll get 2 for just over that price and have a back-up unit and a stand-in device if one runs out of battery. I'm still letting the Avantree unit AS70 be delivered (late July) and as long as it works will be the main unit due to the clip that it has. Exciting times 😉
  7. I can't seem to find a short (i.e. 3-6 inch) high quality 3.5 mm male to 3.5 mm male audio cable (or 3.5 mm male to angular 6.25 mm male). The ones I found are all > 1 feet. I like the SP01/Rx set up that you have, nice and compact. I ordered the same TaoTronics Rx/Tx. Just the short cable is hard to find, for whatever reason. I found one for a couple of bucks, but that looks poor quality. Anybody has a suggestion?
  8. Hi 1515. I did see this on the other thread. From memory it is to be used on a GPX6 when you can get your hands on one? Have you ever tried to pair it to an Equinox or Vanquish? The Receiver/SPO1 is certainly neat and tidy 👍 Actually just checked Australia Amazon and the TaoTronics is available here (currently unavailable in the US). I might be asking for a refund on the Avantree I've ordered that is delayed and get a Trond and a TaoTronics to take on the trip. Always good to have a back-up.
  9. I think I may not have had the coil wire wrapped as tightly as I should have. I was doing big long wraps and I tried short tight wraps and I dont seem to have the issue and I do not want this awesome detector to get blamed. I am hooking up bluetooth to it this week with amazon taotronics just to see. Man those headphone cords can drive you up the wall, especially when youre used to bose wireless headphones lol. Hoping to head up to the sierras in the next week or two and bust out the gmx and new/used tdi sl special edition we just got, I hope the old man finds the nugget with the new tdi 😉
  10. Hi Norm, I haven't used the Trond system but assume it's Bluetooth? I have tried 2 x different Bluetooth tx/rx systems (Avantree & TaoTronics) on the GPZ, a while ago now, to see if they could be used as backups to the WM12 in case of failure or failure of me to recharge it 😆 From memory both were usable if required from the headphone jack but they did have noticeably more background interference type noise & the WM12 was preferable for that reason. The Avantree Bluetooth system did work well on the SDC2300 for me though? I'm no wireless tech but had assumed it was either something to do with the channel/s Bluetooth inherently selects on the 2.4ghz band or that the Bluetooth units not being made specifically for metal detectors aren't as well shielded as other purpose made devices. I could be wrong on both counts? I didn't experiment with placement of the tx either. May need to move it around & see if it improves at all?
  11. And I’ve got the TaoTronics low latency Bluetooth for my White’s. Any matched set of transmitters and receivers will work on almost any device. That’s kind of the entire point of using a transmitter box.
  12. Click or double click any photos in this article for high resolution versions. I bought this 4 x 26650 battery holder on eBay after quite a bit of Google work. They are a surprisingly rare item. It comes with sleeves that can use 4 x 18650 batteries also. It ran me $29.65 delivered including shipping and tax. I ordered it on June 25th and it arrived from China on July 14th. The holder delivers 16.8V via a DC adapter plug or 5V via a USB outlet. It has a thin oring on the lid for an IP67 seal. I also ordered an IP67 M8 4 pole 16.4 foot female to pigtail cable from Automation Direct for $10.50 plus shipping and tax. I ordered several different cables so lets add $5.00 for s&h for this one cable. They delivered next day! And finally 4ea EBL 26650 batteries from Walmart for $20.99 free shipping, delivered in a few days. Total parts cost about $70. I have a 26650 charger already that came with my Tarsacci so you'd have to figure that. Some sets of the batteries come with a charger. By the way, the EBL seem in short supply lately. I shortened the power cable to 5 feet, more than enough to set the detector on ground if need be. The DC adapter that comes with this battery box is great. Blue wire to negative post and brown wire to positive. Warning - I am not vouching for the polarity. I used a multimeter to check my AQ battery and matched that. You should do the same. I take no responsibility for anyone doing this mod and blowing their AQ! The black and white are headphone wires. I hooked up a 1/4" female jack to those. I am using the AQ mostly as a wader unit employing some true chest high waders that have a big pocket on the inside front. I'll drop this battery in that pocket and plug my Sun Ray Pro Gold headphones in. I could use my TaoTronics to go wireless, but that seems pointless the way the battery is mounted near my head. I need to determine run time with four 26650 batteries - should be way better than the current 3 (all metal) to 3.5 (tones/mute) hours running time I get with the Fisher battery. Enough that I probably will not need to do a battery change at all and perhaps enough for a long day. I also need to determine how the detector handles without a battery under the elbow. Lighter of course, but too nose heavy? Should be fine in the water as the coil is neutral. Maybe too nose heavy for some people for dry beach use. We will see. This would be a great belt hip mount battery for dry beach use. I suppose it could also be mounted under the elbow, perhaps with the included strap, so I'll consider that also. It would balance well like that. It is IP67 rated and with proper headphone / power cables might be good enough to use under arm for wading / shallow dunking use at least. Operating sequence. Power up battery pack (it has its own power switch) then power up detector. Power off detector, power off battery pack. Doing otherwise may trip the circuit protector on the battery pack, necessitating removing and reinstalling the lid to reset. The pack has its own built in battery level indicator. And it may be used to charge a phone or other USB device! I was warned this USB capability might create interference in the AQ, but that has not proved to be an issue so far. The two circuits, 16.8V and 5V, appear to be isolated. Powered up - and no smoke! I really like this. Very easy for a not super skilled person like me to do, less than third the cost of a spare AQ battery, and should get well over twice the run time. If I had another complete set of batteries ready, it would be an easy swap for even more running time. It leaves only one cable to the rear end of the detector, and that is my only concern at all - I will try and beef that up and protect it better. I'm thinking a rubber boot that clamps completely over the end of the detector rod. I ordered a couple like like the one pictured below to see if it will stretch enough to work. Long story short is there is a very good chance this will replace my Fisher batteries for most of my use. This is why I had no problem getting the Limited "wader version" of the AQ as I find chest waders to be a good option at Tahoe and it's cold water for all but a couple months of the season when the water gets reasonably warm for mask and snorkel work. I used to do a lot of ice diving with drysuits while gold dredging, but am not looking to get quite that serious any more. 13. I will be using my Impulse with the battery end well out of the water while shallow wading or on the beach, etc. I wanted to get away from wired phones and save the waterproof phones for when I actually need to submerge the machine. No sense putting any more wear and tear on the cable than I need to. So I found a source of relatively inexpensive M8 pigtails and cables, AutomationDirect. Never ordered from them before, but it was easy and cables arrived in two days. I got two pigtails for the headphone 5-pin connector, one straight, and one 90 degree. And I ordered a couple longer 4-pin cables for the power connection, to work with a high capacity power pack I have on order. More on that later when it arrives. I decided to use the 90 degree cable to make an adapter for my new TaoTronics transmitter/receiver box so I can use my Minelab phones, which I like, with all my detectors. There is also a less expensive transmitter only version. M8 5 pin 90 degree pigtail I dug through my pile of adapters and found a spare mono 1/8" extension cable and cut it off, saving the female end for this project. The TaoTronics comes with a RCA to 1/8” female cable that would also probably work for this. I hooked up the 90 degree cable and powered up the Impulse. I randomly hooked up the two wires from the 1/8" socket to the five while having some stereo earbuds plugged in, and found that the brown and gray wires gave me audio in both ears. According to the chart below brown is #1 and gray is #5. I wanted to make very sure there was audio in both ears using the mono socket but with stereo phones plugged in, so good to go there. I cut the cable down short, spliced and covered with shrink tube, and wrapped a little electrical tape on to add some beef. Not pretty but it will work - a typical Herschbach job. I bent the cable under the armrest, and added a stick on square of Velcro to back of the TaoTronics transmitter and the leg stand. I'll add more squares to my other detectors so I can move this transmitter around to whatever I am using. A little tie wrap secures things. Fired it up, paired easily with my Equinox 800 headphones, better audio than the Fisher phones, and frankly the Equinox phones are not the best in that regard. Cheap, super easy... I'm quite pleased with this. I can of course use 1/8" type wired phones or ear buds if I want. I'll make another adapter with the straight connector but go to 1/4" with it, so I can use my Sun Ray Pro Gold headphones without an extra adapter. I'll probably make that cable a little longer than this one, which I wanted as short as possible. If you got the TaoTronics transmitter only box for $20 and this cable for $8.50... well, this is pretty cheap and easy, and will work with a huge number of headphone options. Ironically my new Tarsacci MDT 8000 comes with am M8 to 1/8" adapter with one little problem. Fisher uses a 4-pin connector for the power/headphone combo cable, but then for some reason they use a 5-pin M8 for the headphone only connector. The MDT 8000 headphone adapter is of course 4-pin. I swear they must all have secret meetings to make sure nothing from one detector ever works with another. Click or double click photo for high res version. AutomationDirect M8 Cable Specs pdf
  14. Equinox wireless phones will pair to nearly any Bluetooth audio device, including cell phones and most Bluetooth transmitter adapter devices. I personally just got the TaoTronics transmitter/receiver box so I can use my Minelab phones, which I like, with all my other detectors. There is also a less expensive transmitter only version.
  15. All the talk about how the MDT 8000 does extracting non-ferrous from highly mineralized ground littered with ferrous trash made me decide I needed to try one out for gold nugget detecting. The detector arrived and I have to say it is a nice piece of work. The all carbon rod design adds a real touch of both quality and class. Very good looking, sturdy detector, that feels real good in my hand and on my arm. The machine ships packed inside a real nice custom rucksack. Another nice touch is including two rechargeable batteries, one for use, one for backup. However, the battery can be inserted either way, and there in nothing on the detector to indicate which way to go. I assumed it was polarity protected, but I've made that mistake in the past and did not want to risk it. The is no manual included, so I checked the online manual, and not a peep there at all about batteries. So I fired off an email and got a prompt reply - positive down, and yes, polarity protected. I plan on getting this out for a first nugget hunt in about ten days, so will see how it goes. I have several locations that I want to try in the desert and mountains so it my be a bit however before I come to any conclusions. Final note - kudos to Tarsacci for including the a waterproof to 1/8” headphone adapter. Headphone adapter dongle should be mandatory for anyone selling an underwater headphone with removable headphones. This will make it a snap for me to adapt the machine for wireless headphone use by employing my TaoTronics Bluetooth low-latency transmitter box.
  16. I just received the latest version of the TaoTronics yesterday as a matter of fact. I was surprised how tiny it is, half what I imagined looking at the pictures. I plan on using a Velcro tab to stick it on my Goldmaster 24K, Time Ranger Pro, DFX, and when I get it, the Impulse. I assume it will work with my Equinox phones, which I am just fine with. Anyway, I wanted one solution that would work for everything. I’ll report back when I get a chance to try it on all my machines.
  17. My wireless setup arrived today.A tiny Taotronics TX and Cowan 7 noise canceling headphones, easy setup and seems to work well. The TX is supposed to have 10 hr battery time, headphones 20hr. I will try to post pics tomorrow. I struggle with headphone, they just hurt after a while but these are comfy. No clue as to durability, they seem ok and I generally don't slam my gear around.Gotta get a wired set for back up.Oh, both units are Bluetooth 5.0 low latency. A short hunt today in a super trashy campground. So much stuff that one swing can sound like Morse code! A few times I would chase a nice high tone but pinpoint would be way off center and come through as a low tone, I assume this is trash making a deeper target? I had to resort to a 3 tone Coin profile, too much sound was a distraction and fatigued me.Maybe the reaction and masking setting could help? I am unfamiliar with using those. From reading the manual those are very interactive and might need subtle adjustments. Does the VCO only affect the threshold ?
  18. Im adding Bluetooth to my E-trac I found these earbuds. I want some that had volume control https://avantree.com/dual-driver-bluetooth-earbuds-avantree-as20l What do you think? And Yes I picked out the this TX https://www.taotronics.com/products/tt-ba07-bluetooth-transmitter-receiver
  19. Canoe, Can you, canoe, Canoe? Sorry, I just had to get that out of my system. Welcome to the forum. Anyway, great tip. I see from your intro you use a Whites MXT. Great detector, I still have mine and am not giving it up even though it just sits there now. But it is a classic. I keep a couple of those around for sentimental reasons like some folks keep their old guitars. Anyway, the Minelab Equinox uses built in APTX Low Latency BT wireless as well, which also gave me the idea to use the Taotronics transmitter on my other detectors without wireless. That way I can use the same BT APTX LL headphones for all my detectors. Great, inexpensive system with the low latency needed for metal detecting and you are not locked into proprietary wireless headphones that may or may not be personally suitable from an audio standpoint. If you are looking for a worthy successor to the MXT, the Equinox is worth consideration. Head on over to the Equinox forum to check out the info and how people are doing with it.
  20. I was wondering if someone has a 5.0 bluetooth transmitter that they've paired with the Nox to see if it is actually APTX LL or not. I have 3 models of the Taotronics TT-Ba07, 08 and 09, none give the + sign when paired to the machine. I'm not trying to use it with the Nox, but another machine. My Q-12 earbuds when paired have the + sign. I need a transmitter to use with the Q-12's for minimum lag. Any input or suggestions would be bigly appreciated.
  21. Getting one myself, since the product description says dual TX/RX compatibility in the 5.0 version writeup I assume that it may not have been present in the 4.1 design. I notice that TaoTronics did not make this claim in their similar device writeup.
  22. The BT 4 2 version of both these APTX LL transmitters pair up with my BT APTX LL headphones and I have used both of them successfully in LL mode with my GPX. I use the same headphones (Miccus SR-71's) with my Equinox and GPX. I have not tried to verify by pairing with my Equinox, but I pretty much know by ear whether I am LL or not. Definitely LL with these. I see they are now BT 5.0 but still designated APTX LL so they should show check mark when paired as a receiver to the EQX. Dunno why they don't. FWIW. 24. OMG! How funny is that. I will say one thing, the price for the SR-71, are a lot cheaper, than buying the ML-80 rebranded at a cost of over $100+, and a better savings. Now I am just waiting for my Taotronics 5.0 transmitter to show up for my use of the SR-71 headphones for my entertainment TV/System. Glad to hear they have been holding up for you. I do have some waterproof headphones, in the event of wet weather, I'll use.
  25. https://www.amazon.com/TaoTronics-Bluetooth-Transmitter-Receiver-Simultaneously/ (From the ad:) APTx LL, 10 hour run-time. Looks like you could pair 2 of these together for a build-your-own (Garrett) Z-link. What am I missing?
