  1. Morning all, I have been looking for something that will essentially work like a WM08 (the Equinox wireless receiver) but on the GPX 6000. Something that can then simply have any type of earphone, earbud, on ear or over ear headphones attached to it. I specifically wish to plug some Philips Sports earbuds into a Receiver. They sit out of the ear to allow some ambient sound in so you are aware of surroundings. And don't sit inside your ear like a proper ear bud that can get all sweaty and yuck. I've used the Philips before and they are perfect for me. The supplied Minelab GPX 6000 headphones work great - but I'm not keen on headphones as they are hot and they make it difficult to wear a broad brimmed hat. I do recognise there are other hat options. The non Bluetooth options: The Quest kit is great ( http://phasetechnical.com.au/product/quest-wirefree-mate-kit/ ) and although I know they work really well, they definitely only pair with each other and I do not want to attach a Transmit unit to the GPX 6000 - possibility of EMI, an extra thing to get knocked off, an extra thing to charge and the functionality of a Bluetooth LL Transmitter is already in the GPX so why not use it!! 🤪 The Minelab Pro Sonic is too expensive and would need a Transmitter attached to the detector. The Garrett Z-Link - would also need a Transmitter attached to the detector. Bluetooth APTX Low Latency options: I have ordered the Avantree AS70 as it said they were due for release at the start of June. But since ordering (4 days ago) that has been changed to the end of July 😤 https://avantree.com/au/as70-bluetooth-adapter-for-headphones They are the latest version of the Clipper Pro previously mentioned on DP as having worked well. The Clipper Pro seems completely unavailable now. I like the look of the AS70 and Clipper Pro as they have a good clip that will attach to a shirt, collar, harness or whatever. There are these https://avantree.com/au/lock-bluetooth-transmitter-receiver-set but they are a pair and I wonder if the Receive unit will work directly with the GPX or will it only pair with the Transmit unit (it does say auto pairing with each other in the write up). Chase Goldman had previously mentioned these as working well: TaoTronics 65ft Bluetooth Transmitter/Receive https://www.amazon.com/dp/B076BMT9BY TROND Bluetooth V5.0 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01B4W40VC/ Newer version here https://www.amazon.com/TROND-Bluetooth-Transmitter-Indicator-Simultaneously-dp-B01K8ANDCI/dp/B01K8ANDCI/ref=dp_ob_title_ce I notice the TaoTronics is currently unavailable on Amazon. At this stage I may get one of the newer Trond units as that will at least be a back up for my upcoming big trip and may end up being my main unit if the Avantree does not turn up in time. There are a few others mentioned on this site http://www.aptx.com/ but some look el-cheapo, some are no longer made (the site is not kept up to date in that regard), none of them have a clip to attach to clothing and I am unsure if any of them actually pair with a Vanguish/Equinox/GPX6. Anything that pairs and works well in Low Latency with the Equinox/Vanquish should work well with the GPX 6000. Would be even happier if my Equinox WM08 just hooked up (shame on you Minelab 😜) So my questions, finally! What other brands have worked for people? Is the audio quality good? Manufacturing quality good? Somewhat weatherproof? Is the Low Latency good? Have they paired easily with no issues? What sort of time frame are the batteries lasting for most people? Hoping you good people can share some 1st hand experiences - good or bad - and this can be a one stop resource for others searching for a similar device. Cheers, N.E. 👍
  2. Has anyone tried one of these to waterproof their WM08 module?
  3. Question: Does anyone else have a problem with the ws5 headphones battery going dead while they're turned off? They are updated to 5.21...twice !! Could it be the headphones have a problem or is it the battery? It's certainly not normal. Thanks!
  4. As a new member of the forum I suspect this question has been dealt with many times in the past .I am having a problem linking my WM 08 to my Nox 600 .It just does not happen ,full charge on both and 2 ft apart .I have tried at least a dozen times .(headphones not turned on or involved .Can anyone help ?
  5. I have asked some and received their ideas and suggestions if you are running wireless which transmitter and headphones are you using. What kind of run time are you getting out of the ones you chose ? Sound Quality? I can get the Z-Link or the Minelab sets up but thought someone might have a really good setup they have ran across Thanks Jim
  6. Got em today and am blown away so far with music...... Sounds like Dave Matthews voice is in the middle of my head..... WOW.....
  7. E-mailed Centerville Electronics about Whites replaceable covers for ear muffs. No reply. Does any one know where i can get covers from .I am in Australia. Regards.
  8. Has anyone tried them with a metal detector? I came across an article which displayed some Bose audio sunglasses. The concept was not something I had really considered but when you read about them they are built for athletes that need to be aware of their surroundings to avoid accidents. We detect in areas where we need to avoid accidents and critters also so hearing outside of headphones is beneficial. This would also have the potential of eliminating hot and or uncomfortable headphones for me in the desert. I don't think they could work well at the beach with crashing waves. Maybe we can begin a review of these Bose and other audio sunglasses here. Of course there would need to be some with LL and other technical specifications to work with our equipment but it could also be a new product idea for one of these companies. https://www.bose.com/en_us/products/frames/bose-frames-tempo.html#D61A74D4CFE947DB6685D4D8CE1982FC

  10. Last week, I attempted to power on the ML 80 headphones I use with the Equinox 800. I purchased these new in March 2019. They would not power on. I charged them: the 3 red LEDs flash for about 10 minutes and then turn off, as if headphones were charged. But, the headphones still will not power on. I attempted to contact my dealer and ML, but neither have yet responded. Does anybody have any novel ideas to try, or troubleshooting, remedies? I would greatly appreciate the help! Thanks,
  11. Over the years we've touched on the difference between High Impedance vs. Low Impedance headphones. Historically, the headphones designed for detecting have been High Impedance, and all were equipped with 1/4 inch headphone plug. Everyone developed a preference for their brand because of the way they fit and sound. These days more detectors are set up for the 1/8 inch headphone plugs and a few detecting headphones have offered that choice. The technology is clearly moving away from all wired headphones in favor of wireless. The market is really directed at music and communication devices, not detecting. I'm just curious how the impedance issue affects the newer technology. The latency of wireless is a completely separate discussion, but may be necessary to understand the importance of Impedance. I have always used in ear monitors rather than over the ear headphones. It's just more practical in the desert environment of sunny Yuma. The majority of "ear buds" for lack of a better term are low impedance designed for listening to music on low powered handheld players. The high impedance ear monitors are available but quite expensive. The GPZ tends to overpower el cheapo ear buds and produces a really unpleasant sound. My question is twofold: what was our understanding of the importance of Impedance in the old days with wired headphones and how/if that has changed with wireless.
  12. We detectorists are accustomed to dealing with nature (wind noise) and human nature (traffic noise) while detecting. In a significant section of the USA, some of us get an added bonus (err, annoyance?) a few times in our lives. I assume most of you aren't aware of this 17 year occurrence of cicadas known as Brood X. Here from Wikipedia are the states most impacted: The brood's next major emergence will take place during 2021 in these 15 states: Delaware, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, North Carolina, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia, and Washington, D.C.[5][3][6] I don't remember 1970's emergence and in 1987 I was in California and Saskatchewan the entire time they were performing. But I experienced the 2004 emergence. It's pretty impressive. Cicadas are present at least in the Eastern USA every year. They typically compete with crickets in terms of volume and audio frequency (to my untrained ears, anyway). However, the Brood X is like sitting in the front rows of a rock concert compared to the comfort or your living room listening to music. Unlike crickets, they don't reserve their singing to merely the evening hours, either. Here's an excerpt from NYTimes regarding their audio volume: Sounds up to 90 decibels could be measured standing directly under a tree filled with cicadas. A motorcycle, by comparison, can put out sounds up to 95 decibels, which can damage hearing after about 50 minutes of continuous exposure, according to the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. You don't need to be under a tree to experience the impact, either. BTW, the 17 year emergence cycle is an example of nature understanding mathematics. 17 is a prime number (divisible by only 1 and itself if restricting to whole numbers). The reason, though, with two competing hypotheses, is still being investigated.
  13. I was one of the first to get an 800 in the United States. I got on Bill's waiting list several months before the release. Since then I've had to replace the control unit because of a broken switch. Everything has worked well and I've found lots of good targets. Along the way I bought a pair of Avantree headphones and they work fine but I prefer the Minelabs. Today I put them on the USB charger. I've had to fiddle with several different power cords the last few months but eventually I get the red charging lights to come on and that was the same today. When I picked them and the charged 800 up the charging lights were out per normal. When I got to the beach to connect I couldn't get the 'on' tones for the headphones. They were completely dead. I've since fiddled with them and tried multiple cables that had charged them before but I can't get the 3 little red charging lights to come on. I've cleaned the mini leads with alcohol and jiggled everything but no go. Is it dead? haha I'll use the Avantree until I can get another pair of the originals. They don't need to be new.
  14. I plan on using my nox 600 in the water as well as on land. I also plan on ordering some Tony Eisenhower waterproof headphones. Do those of you who have those headphones use them as general use for both land and water, or just in the water? I ask because I’m not thrilled with the cheepo headphones that came with my Equinox 600 and would like to have one pair of good general use headphones.
  15. Hello to all i decided to upgrade a bit my case for the wireless transmitter on my Tarsacci it was previously store at the back of the control box stuck with some velcro, inside a tiny pouch/zip bag So this is what i did. I took a 18650 case holder, melted with a solder the edge to pass the cable. I found a piece of rubber with some sticky tape on it and sculpted it with a knife.I think a chair sticky slider could but i didnt have any. This to be able to switch on and off in the box Managed to squeeze the excess of wire behind in the box. Tested all working It is dust proof and probably splash proof, not 100% shower proof but working on it Enjoy RR
  16. Hi. Just received the mdt 8000. Would love to hook up the garret z link. Which adapter do you all use if you use the wireless with the tarsacci? And, any suggestions for the settings in red dirt?? Thanks in advance!
  17. I'm repairing a pair of SunRay Pro gold headphones & discovered a bad speaker. Does anyone know of a source of parts or where I can get a derelict or throw-away set of phones for the parts?
  18. Hi all, My husband and I like to go metal detecting together, but with the one detector - 1 finds the spot the other digs. We would like to be able to connect 2 headphones to the Equinox 600. I see I could get a WM08 to pair one set of headphones to the device. And if we wanted two bluetooth devices, I believe we would have to have two modules. But in addition to the paired wireless set can we plug a second set in to the same module, so the person with the detector has a wired connection and the second person has a wireless one , only needing one module? Thanks in advance. Michelle
  19. If it comes with waterproof headphones, why would I want those? I'll probably want to go wireless. Even if I did decide to go in the water, why can't I use what I have or choose what I want?
  20. Minelab has come out with a new more robust aptx ll headphones designed for their new gpx 6000 gold detector. I contacted them to see if these will work with the equinox and they will.
  21. Are the green wireless headphones that come with the simplex worth getting or should I use my Bluetooth ? What are you guys using?
  22. I am trying to put a new connection onto my ls pelso headphones, the original connector was only chrome plated, it rusted and somehow got bent. The connector I want to use is a 90deg gold plated one that I have from another crappy pair of earbuds I got on ebay. I thought they'd have the same wires but after cutting them open they are different. The Lspelsos have a red wire and a white wire. Thr Earbud connector has a red white and yellow wire. After connecting the reds to the whites and plugging it in to the equinox there was no sound Can anyone offer any advice? Much appreciated and hh
  23. Has anyone found a pair of headphones that are just like the ones furnished with the 800 (bluetooth, aptx-LL, over ear, not earbuds) but are waterproof/resistant and have a higher quality audio for metal detectors? I am not super happy with the stock ones because I can't wear in the rain and audio is pretty sub-par in my opinion.
  24. The GPX 6000 comes with a new Minelab ML 100 wireless headphone. Like the older ML 80 that comes with Equinox, these can also be plugged into the detector directly if the charge runs out, or if you want no lag at all - go wired! The big difference appears to be a more robust metal yoke design, along with a much larger padded ear muff. It also appears to have the same waterproof 1/8" adapter as is used with Equinox, but this time supplied with the detector. 👍🏼 New Minelab wireless headphones for GPX 6000 (and Equinox?) 25. I’ve been reading up on Equinox waterproof headphones as I will finally have the opportunity to try it at the beach in the next few months. I plan to wade with it for the most part but the unit might get dunked some as I’m still within warranty and want to make sure I don’t have a leaky one... I’ll have a Seahunter as backup or if I ever want to snorkel with it for extended periods. Probably will only do this a couple times a year in the near future. I’ve read good things about the Pelsos as a waterproof above water with the occasional dunk, $50 bucks less new. I’ve read the Yellow Minelabs are not very loud. Different tech, speakers vs piezo. On the Pelsos I’ve read they come with a long cord that a good thing? Hopefully not too annoyingly long? Thoughts?
