  2. I have a lot of history using a Sovereign and can honestly say that it is one of the best and most productive metal detectors that I have ever used. I am getting older now and also have some health issues so I have reluctantly moved on to a very lightweight metal detector. I am quite happy with it but I do miss the audio and some other features of the Sovereign. How I wish that Minelab would have repackaged the original Sovereign making it lighter in weight and more ergonomic without changing its audio and operational characteristics too much. I will probably be selling my trusty Sovereign soon as it is now more difficult for me to swing and use all day. Age catches up to you. 🙂
  3. Hello everyone. i am facing a choice which is better. Fischer f 75 LTD or black, and is there a difference between them, I heard that there is a new firmware, or minelab x terra pro as an option or the same equinox 600. all the time I went with garrett, but it seems to me that they are shallow. budget 600-700 dollars. I looked at the nocta simplex, but still fisher and minelab is a well-known brand with a name. advise what will be better. my soils are heavy, European, namely Germany, Bavaria. in some places clay. stones. sand. thanks in advance for the tip. sincerely Taras
  4. I used a Vanquish 540 for about a year... I have six detectors. I did well with it and liked most of what it provided except of course for the red color and high battery drain. I solved the battery drain buy purchasing an RNB battery pack and I "solved" the red color with a black rain cover. My detecting buddy also used a 540 at that time and did extremely well with it. In fact he now owns a detector at twice its price and often states that he would oftentimes prefer using the 540 instead.
  5. I agree that the Apex design and control housing size and style are extremely well done. I hope that Garrett sticks with it. I too would prefer black or camo color and an infinitely adjustable pole length. For its price, you get a lot. I can't wait to see their new "Storm" detector.
  6. Today
  7. Congrats nice finds ... Concerning the tendonitis it might come from a too heavy detector . I say this because me and my cousin have had this issue a few years ago . My cousin was close to stop the hobby because of the elbow pain . We have both solved the pb after changing to a lighter detector.
  8. I takes me all of 2 minutes to use a fine grit foam sanding block to custom fit the washers for this situation. Just saying.
  9. I started splitting and rearranging the pdf as a viewer file and got 3/4 done and accidently erased it. Not starting over. But yeah, I put the funky formatted reader version in the downloads area which also prints fine as single pages as I could not find anything better at the time. The pdf set up for double page priinting looks better but is a hard read on a device. I might go back and split and rearrange someday but am too irritated at having accidently deleted 20 minutes work to start over right now. It's pretty simple as far as washers are concerned. The lower rod was obviously designed to be used with two washers. Somewhere along the way somebody screwed up, and it became that using two washers would stress the ears depending on the coil used. So the bug became a feature - "oh no, we designed it that way, just use one washer!" Uh huh. Ignore the manuals and pay attention to the lower rod and coil fit. You want it snug but not enough to be forcing the ears apart and stressing them. If you need two washers use them, if two washers are too much use one washer. It might depend on the coil used and if you have multiple coils you might need two washers with some and one washer with others. That's it. When using one washer you are getting a plastic to plastic fit on one side against a thin raised edge where the washer was supposed to go if this had been done right. Those thin edges may wear excessively for people that flip the coil a lot for some reason, so the "use one washer" solution is obviously not ideal and I refuse it was supposed to be that way. But it is what it is. Maybe find or make some thinner washers. I promise complaining about it will fall on deaf ears so just do what you have to do so you can go detecting.
  10. September 28 Gambling Gold For Gold We worked all morning and afternoon setting pumps and running water line the long distance needed. Of all things the weather decided to turn sunny and hot. The forecast on the radio says it may last a few days. We are caught between a rock and a hard place. If there is no more rain for the next week or so we will quickly use up what water is in the pond. There is not near enough water in the seasonal creek up here to help us at all. So now we are hoping for more rain. The haul road is a mess and not worth the effort of fixing again this late in the season. Jacob came up with an idea today and we talked it over and agreed. He suggested not processing any more upper gravels in the cut even though they contain decent gold. The water supply is limited and his idea is to wait until we get the bedrock gravels and use the water to wash them. Those gravels are what we are after right now. All of us have the fever to see what’s down there. We will stockpile the upper gravels and either run them if we have the time and water or leave them to start our next season. It’s a bit of a gamble but we are all willing to take it. TO BE CONTINUED ............
  11. You can also take a look at some YouTube channels that teach you how to recognize stones. It won't be as good as an expert, but at least you'll be able to get an idea.
  12. Steve, many thanks for all the hard work you put in behind the scenes to keep the forum going,i rarely post on forums these days but this one is the best for sure.....many thanks.
  13. Damn, over a hundred rings for the year...very impressive. Keep on swinging...congrats!
  14. That's the 'printer' version which is not so easy to read on a display. I do notice the 'rev.5 050420' (4 May 2020) document tag. So according to the F19 manual we're not supposed to use any rubber washer/gasket when attaching the coil to the shaft?? I wonder if that's something specific to the 5"x10" coil given the conflicting instructions for other coils (5" and 7"x11") in the Gold Bug Pro manuals. I'm sticking with Carl's recommendation and my own experience.
  15. Many of you know the reaction (likes) and reputation system crashed. In database terms these were files I have allowed to build for 11 years without touching them. The main benefit as far as I was concerned was seeing what posts were the most popular over the years, helping point people to high quality content. However, this post popularity thing was also tied to a member reputation system. As non-active members and spammers were purged from the system, the lack of reindexing eventually caused problems. The forums have had periodic meltdowns the last couple years, and I suspect now it was tied to this. The data was unrecoverable without going to extremes not worth the time and effort I would have to invest with doubtful results. In a bid to get the sytem back to a higher level of stability I dropped the member reputation system and leaderboard entirely, and reset/reindexed the post reactions/likes system. In general I have been paring the system back deleting less used areas in favor of focusing on the main activity here, the forums themselves. So far the result seems to be a more stable and snappier responding forum. That was the goal and hopefully this remains the case going forward. Thanks for your patience and understanding.

  17. Now in Paeroa! The trip is coming to a close. I'm back with relatives and will have dinner in Auckland on Saturday. Other than landing at the airport, I haven't been there. Everything has been country and mountain roads. I've passed through lots of places I don't know anything about so I'll look at my pictures and a bit of Wikipedia later and then know more about what happened there. We've hit a couple of really nice playgrounds for the kids. The one today was in Hamilton. When leaving we had a great choice of takeaways to choose from. Pretty good stuff really. The exchange rate makes the food here about the same that I'd pay in California (when I left) but I've read about the bump ups in both food and gas. Most gas here is between $2.75-$2.91 NZ per liter for 91. I'm using a Toyota that gets better mileage than my cars in California. We went one stretch where there was no gas for over 100 miles. I was glad to pay $3.14 when I got to that station! Lots of things seen and many things to consider. If I ever made another trip to NZ I won't have to drive everywhere, that is for sure.
  18. Wow....rough conditions indeed but the pay off was there. You had to work for it! I can only imagine 110 rings for the year in my dreams. Great hunting skills, great locations you have. Thanks for posting.

  20. Yes, a database glitch caused Steve to have to reset reactions, nothing wrong on your end.
  21. Hi all. Just want to put it out there, I've just made my first youtube video. I'll aim for somewhat regular uploads as I have hours of footage saved up. This is a video where I found 5 gold rings, a silver bar, a watch and some gold pendants. Probably in my top 10 favourite hunts. You don't have to subscribe, but it would definitely help 🙂 I'm fully open to criticism no matter how harsh. if you think the video is crap let me know what I can change. if you want it shorter or longer, or more talking? This took me forever to edit as I'm fairly new to it all. Otherwise I hope you enjoy the video. cheers.
  22. I've been lazy with uploading lately. I'm either flat out with work or detecting and finding more than I can document! I've just hit 110 rings for the year (39 gold, yay)! Went out a few days ago with a mate and hit a spot we've been doing all year. After a few hours, he had a couple of rings and I had a couple of silver and a 18ct. I was pretty happy with that, but the tide started to come up and it was getting a bit cold and not much else was turning up. The beach has been good to us lately, I did the spot a few days prior just wading and scored 2 gold rings, and he went as well the next day and got another. We pondered doing another beach we both know well, where there's always tons of stuff but the conditions are extremely hard to do. Wow oh wow was it rough!! I said to him, I'll have a look and if its crap I'm gonna get a coffee and call it a day, I think he was a bit more keen than me. I took the long way around (got distracted by a garage sale lol) and we both met in the middle along the shore. Still equip with our snorkelling gear, we decided to go in anyway, as it was rough but the water was somewhat clear. For reference, I've found close to 600 rings scattered in this area over the last 5 years. They always get thrown up in to the shallow areas after rough seas, but we've never really gone in the water as the rips are so strong and the conditions never line up. Anyhow, within 24 minutes I had 2 bangles as well as 2 rings and he found 2 rings coming from the opposite direction. It was sooo hard to dig anything because as soon as you got the target, you'd be pushed off by a wave and would have to find it again. It was exhausting, especially with 11kg of dive weights. The rip was also extremely strong. I've never seen so many rocks in this spot, because again, it's near impossible to access. There were sooo many targets, almost 1 ever 1.5 meters. When I last got close to this spot I pulled over 70 rings but it was as they'd been thrown closer to shore by strong tides. Great day out. I went back 2 days later and while my partner was doing the shallows with her new manticore, I decided to wade in. my first target was a kayak anchor..lol, I wouldn't have dug it if it wasn't on the surface as it was a massive ferrous signal. This was equally as annoying as it was great, because I didn't have my dive weights so it gave me lots of weight to stay down, as my wetsuit is too buoyant. I was about chest deep the entire time (i'm 6t5) and it was a real struggle, the waves were hitting about 1.5-1.8 meters every 13 seconds. Again, soo many targets but after an hour I ended up with another 6 rings, 2 watches, a bangle and a brass bracelet chain. Including a nice 18ct band. As fun as it was, I think the 15 degree C water (59 fahren) was a bit too much and I'm now in bed with a cold, LOL. Totally worth it though. I'm so so so excited to go back there when we have a low swell, I just know there's going to be so much more there. I've never considered that all these rings washing up must be getting pushed from out in the deeper end. I was optimistic about the Seiko as I didn't see the water bubble at first.. it's a $600 watch. Sadly it's full of water. Here's a quick video just to show the conditions we were dealing with
  23. Ah ha, Mn you came downunder to get an Algo.... love it. Keen to hear how you go with it, I hope you relocated Phrunts 12"X GPX coil into your bag.😉
  24. Out of curiosity, is it just my device, or does it seem like the reactions to multiple post threads have been reset? I am certain I thanked or liked multiple responses to some threads, but those posts now show either no reactions, or only 1-2 very recent reactions.
