Prospecting New Areas On Magnetic Island
geof_junk replied to Erik Oostra's topic in Detector Prospector Forum
It will not be long before you can not even walk into a National Park to see the trees and that will include Greenies too etc. Some have history. My Great Aunty back in the 1901 onwards use to collect the mail for the family group at Sheffield Tas for the village in the sticks. -
Challenge Completed And Missed Nuggets Found

The old rule you need 64 times the power to double the depth so a little power reductions will not reduce the depth much at all, but will get rid of the noise. -

Jason I found on the initial EMI tune I make sure all electronic devices a switch on. That includes GPS, Radios, CB and most all my companion Metal Detector. This procedure has solved a lot of interference from other devices for both my self and others. -

Quartz Reef At Old Gold Diggings On Magnetic Island
geof_junk replied to Erik Oostra's topic in Detector Prospector Forum
That saddle reminds me of a reef in Vic. that crossed a saddle like that. My mate found a number of bits of gold heading down the slope. While he was working down hill I went up hill to have a look of the area for more reefs running parallel to it. I only walked a few feet and hit a multi gram bit. We found out that the incline of the reef was against the slope and found a few more bits on each side of the visible reef quartz up hill of it where it was eroded away. So if you are looking for reefs it pays to see the direction and incline of it on the map first. -
Equinox Price Increase ????????
geof_junk replied to Jeff McClendon's topic in Minelab Equinox Forum
I can see that in US$ due to the AUD$ rise against it, but that should drop the price in AUD$ due to it's value gain. But I guess profit is the only name in the game for investors.😭 -

Solar Charger For GPX 5000.. Will It Work?
geof_junk replied to Erik Oostra's topic in Minelab Metal Detectors
I would set up a solar system to the Car/4WD battery and use the cigarette plug to charge you detector battery with the regulated ML charger. This will not work if you are going on foot for a few days, a second battery or two is require and if a light weight ones are used they can be used for half day trips. -
Garrett Metal Detectors For Prospecting?
geof_junk replied to Dances With Doves's topic in Detector Prospector Forum
Kevin found that 1980. The million dollar nugget. I think most prospector dream of. I was sitting around the camp fire with a few full timer in Leonora 25 years later. Kevin turn-up and joined us. He got his $1,000,000 house on millionaire hill in Perth but here he was roughing it out in the desert with his wife just to go detecting for enjoyment. At this stage he was using a ML detector. -
This photo was taken in the early stages of development. It looks very light and robust. The face has been distorted to protect tester the grey hair does not match JP but it was taken in Leonora Caravan park way back. 😉

Garrett Metal Detectors For Prospecting?

I ended up with a new Garretts DeepSeeker because she was more at home with the Whites 6000d. I had one problem with it and went and saw Arnold Muller the victorian dealer (The Aust importer was WA based). As I needed it for a prospecting holiday he said mail it or drop in at Kilmore over a 100 miles away, which I did. He looked at it as soon as I got there and said it major problem. The next thing he did was got a new mother board and replace it within minute. What a difference that made, I found gold and coins every where I went. The DeepSeeker was a big success in Vic and WA and followed up with the 15000Hz A2B that cleaned up Beggary Hills (considered very hot ground) till the PI came out and was very successful in WA. -
One of the first places in West Aust. were gold was found is Marble Bar. I saw some Jasper it is a beautiful rock but was to big to take home.😀

Prospecting New Areas On Magnetic Island

Most snakes are defensive but try to avoid people. However the ones we have to avoid is the Brown and Tiger Snake it will attack you at certain times mainly the Brown. My kids used to scare people with the legless lizards that mimic the Young Brown Snakes on the Vic gold fields as they could tell the difference and catch them. -
The rings I got that were broken, were due to the cutting and re-sizing for smaller fingers. Most were 9 karat and were gold soldered together. However I maybe wrong.

That green book of Patches' ("DW. de Havelland) was the last one that he published that I know of. It even mention the con\fake mine at Cunningham Gap. All four of his books are well worth a read and they still sit in my book case. -

Minelab GPX 6000 Controls & Setup
geof_junk replied to Steve Herschbach's topic in Detector Prospector Forum
The trouble with auto controls/setting is that they can make a good guess for the ground but don't know the size , type and depth of the gold to get the best setting. My working life was spent in control room and had to take over when the auto controls could not cope because situation do exist that designer don't know. Boeing 737 MAX 8 airplanes spent million on auto controls and failed, but it took a human to save one incident that they had.
