  1. The V3i can set an individual tone to each VDI # or to blocks of numbers. I open the discrimination and accept everything on the V3i. I use the tones to set my discrimination, in other words I give the range I want to discriminate a 0 tone. I can do the same with the visual discrimination as well. There are advantages to this in that the machine doesn't have to do as much recalculating a target when it simply accepts it compared to the algos of discriminating it out. Here is a post by Rob on findmall ... Zero tones for discrimination.
  2. Aw.... Now your just showing off.......... That's a beauty.... congrats.
  3. You could also go around mumbling about "My Precious" in your best golum impression.....
  4. I love my MXT... even though I seldom get to use it anymore.... The wife has pretty well taken it over... So I just use my V3i..... love it too by the way.
  5. Maybe things are looking up.... Just a slow start to the new year..
  6. I like that.... They buy the cheap detectors and get soon discouraged.... However the only problem I see is this.... These rank amateurs are lacking the digging ethics we have adopted and are probably leaveing unfilled holes.....
  7. Was the ST Chris gold? I found one a couple years ago that was 14k and weighed 7.5 dwt.
  8. The wife and I got out for a little detecting today..... Pretty bleak. She found a dime and a quarter, both clad and I got skunked. So I console myself in that I did my good deed for the day in helping to clean up the little park we detected.....
  9. We had a pretty good start for the year as far as finds quantity but no jewelry or silver coinage. Found a pendant that had me going there for a minute but turned out to be junk. Of course where I live isn't exactly a beach hot spot buy any means and the parks and schools are pretty much what I got.
  10. I always enjoy following the guy on the left in you illustration...... The golfer......
  11. "Turning beginners into experts"..... That's a pretty tall claim and a bit of a stretch don't ya think?...
  12. I can save you a lot of trouble if you just go ahead and send me a TRX........
  13. Here's a site I like for the metal values of coins .... They also have a phone app. And scrap gold and silver prices on the phone app.. Coinflation.com
  14. I personally am quite happy with my V3i. I know a lot of you don't have a high opinion of it but mine has paid for itself several times over with the coins and jewelry I have found with it.... And I don't get out all that much.. and certainly not as much as I would like to, but location and the fact I do still have to work for a living kinda puts a damper on my free time. I have used MMS (mixed mode stereo) now for a while and have gotten to really like that program plus I have added my own tweek's to the program to suit me... As to the foreign machines entering the market...... well I'm kind of a keep my money at home as much as I can kind of guy..... nuff said. Is the V3i perfect?... Nope... But I am pretty comfortable with it now and I think I am getting as good a performance as I need with more if I need it. I also make it a point to go to White's Sweet Home headquarters occasionally so I can snoop..... I think they are a great company and I think they have some stuff on the horizon that will impress. I would love to be able to get out and nugget hunt but there just isn't anyplace I am aware of near me. So I do what I can when I can and that is coin and jewelry in schools, parks, and an occasional private area... I do envy you guys and gals that are near the nugget fields. Happy hunting to all.
  15. The little woman and I decided to get n a little detecting since it was such a nice day .... So, we loaded up the rig and hit the road... found a little park that yeilded up some clad... No silver or jewelry but it was a great day anyway. The little rectangular pendant had me going there for a second because I have found 14k gold that had the same coppery look.... But it was just copper. Her finds on the left, mine on the right. She has adopted my MXT and I use the V3i. and yes there was trash too. I think I dug 3 pull tabs and a little foil. The wife did a few more pull tabs.
  16. Keep the lead and any other metals you might find, separate them and sell them later to a scraper.... helps add a little to the purse for detecting.... Oh.... all you got to do is be there and keep that coil swinging.... The gold will come... and silver too.
  17. That is SO cool. What a great experience. Nice that you will get a piece of it too.
