  1. He wants tracking GB though. Don’t think you can get to the advanced GB settings using the WS6.
  2. Freakin’ awesome update, thanks XP! Thanks for the Vid, Gary! Update: Well…except for the visual TID tone-based weirdness glitch (read on, below). Will wait until that is sorted/addressed. 😑
  3. Ditto everything that JCR recommended. Also, reconfirm there are no bugs in the updater files. Seems many are having an issue getting their computers to recognize the Legend during the ver 1.06 update when it was a non-issue during 1.05
  4. Understandable. But I will note that so far things have generally been resolved with downloadable updates that mitigate the risk of having to send hardware back and forth. This isn't a Whites MX Sport or Fisher F75 DST, or even a Nox leaky head unit or wobbly shaft situation requiring returning HW back to the factory for hardware mods, firmware updates, or wholesale replacement at least not yet... But these new detectors also don't suddenly render your go to detector obsolete, so waiting until the dust settles is prudent. Or not... Agreed. A deep dive into the thread linked by Dave put this one to bed pretty quickly. Appears to be an across the board cosmetic issue with the molding process and a non-issue from a structural integrity standpoint. This is backed up by TNSS verifying that both Calabash's RC's show the same cosmetic "flaw" (as does mine) and that hasn't affected watertight integrity on the unit he's racked up 40+ hours in depths greater than 10 feet and up to 28 feet.
  5. Bill - DSMITH followed up with some great specific information on what people, including himself, were seeing during the update and afterwords which shed some light on the possible issues being reported.
  6. Manual can be downloaded here: https://www.questmetaldetectors.com/file-share/86739c69-694b-4e48-8fd4-8683a129982d Hit the "gear" touchpad (touhpad "F" above) to get into the settings adjustment menus, each press of the gear touchpad cycles you to each of the settings adjustment icons. Just keep pressing it until the appropriate settings icon is highlighted as shown below. GL From the manual:
  7. Moon also has no atmosphere to impede/burn up the impactors so that's probably a big factor as well.
  8. Thanks. Couple questions on your test. What was soil mineralization as indicated on the mineralization bargraph? If moderate to high, the TX power setting of 3 on the D1 could be counterproductive to depth performance. Hearing a lot of EMI on the D1, was the D2 on and operating nearby? It probably would have been advisable to lower sensitivity on the D1 to just quell the noise and then lower the D2 sensitivity to match the D1. I missed whether you provided any information related to the metallic composition, mass, and diameter of the test target coins for context. Note that if the test targets were high conductors, 4 khz on the D1 could have possibly punched deeper than the default program 6 setting of 8 khz. On the other hand, 8 khz corresponded better to the D2 Deep HC (Program 6) FMF profile that has a purported max frequency of 14 khz and perhaps a midpoint frequency of perhaps ~9khz (the mid point between 4khz and 14khz).
  9. Thanks, but to be honest it was all of 5 minutes of effort. I simply zoomed in on your pics, read that it was a GM Corp coin, and that clued me in to recognizing "Pontiac" and the "Chief of the Sixes" slogan and then Google did the rest. I like doing the research on the whatzit finds and potential detecting locations. Part of the fun encompassed in the hobby, especially relic detecting.
  10. First of all, buying a coil that costs nearly as much as the Simplex itself is just throwing good money after bad, to be brutally honest. So don't let your affinity for accessory coils warp your decision making (not a dig at you, as I have a weakness for them too 😉). As good as the Ultimate coil series is, it will likely not improve anything you are complaining about, such as target ID, because that's primarily limited by the nature of it being a single frequency (SF) detector vs. Legend being Simultaneous Multifrequency (SMF). Simply making Simplex a multiple/variable SF would significantly increase its utility at very little increased cost but that would gore Nokta's other mid range offerings such as Impact and Anfibio but that's a discussion for a different thread. Simon, you say you struggle to consider the Legend based on some of the issues you encountered with Simplex. But as far as I'm concerned, the only DNA they share is the Nokta Brand and similarities in form factor. Setting SMF aside for a moment, even the Legend navigation, button layout, and UI is improved vastly over Simplex to be more accessible to making changes quickly on the fly while in the field and I think it is actually set up in a more intuitive fashion for the detecting newbie/veteran than Simplex. Legend addresses the issues you have with the Simplex by the very nature of it being SMF. SMF vastly improves the target ID stability issue at depth and SMF creates a true salt beach machine for Nokta. The various SMF profiles and variable single frequency features make it a truly versatile multi-situational machine at a cost delta that would likely be eclipsed by your Simplex accessory coil purchase (and appears to be a much better value than the Equinox 800). My advice is to forgo the Ultimate coil purchase for Simplex. Sell, trade, or donate Simplex to someone who is budding to get into the hobby and get yourself a Legend. Simplex+Ultimate vs. Legend US cost analysis: Simplex w/ Green Wireless Phones: $340 + Ultimate Coil: $250 = $590 invested (I don't consider you to have two usable coils if you are getting the Ultimate coil just to get the Legend to operate the way you want it to FWIW). Legend Base Pack: $635*. Conclusion: Cut Simplex loose and invest in the Impact instead if you want a Nokta in your lineup. Why bother if you already own Equinox? It's a great value backup (or even primary to Equinox) has much better ergonomics and UI it's really a pleasure to swing vs. Equinox, has similar performance, and in some unique cases may actually outperform the Nox. In this way you are getting something that might actually cover a performance/capability gap in your arsenal rather than trying to get Simplex to just keep up with what your other detectors already do. (*Note: Not seeing the value in the Legend $765 Pro pack as the extended battery pack is of limited value since it will just add weight and preclude use of hard wired headphones in water hunting situations, besides, the Legend built-in battery appears to have plenty of capacity. Personally, not a fan of the 6" round coil form factor - so getting a great bundle savings on two accessories I'll likely never put into useful service is not really saving anything. I would rather save the wasted (IMO) Pro Pack $ and get Nokta's forthcoming 5x9.5 DD for Legend which should cost about $130 ballpark based on Nokta's accessory coil cost benchmarks (the Legend 6" round is $120). That's just me, of course. Others obviously may find utility in the Pro Pack accessories that I don't as it is a popular option).
  11. The token/coin is cool and actually from the mid-50's most likely and fetches a few bucks from collectors. Here's the story behind it: 1950's Pontiac "Chief of The Sixes" Coin (motorcitymusclecars.com)
  12. Not so sure that is a buckle. Almost looks like a wall mounted bottle opener or wall mounted thingamajig based on the countersunk screw hole and rusted screw hardware.
  13. Great additional info thanks. I get what you are talking about with the bluetooth headsets. It now works like the Equinox. I guess the downside to the wild, wild west pairing with any headset it sees first was that users must have been experiencing issues with it connecting to bluetooth headsets they did not want it to pair with or old headsets they had previously paired it with. Funny, I couldn't get it to see anything other than the headset it was supplied with.
  14. Great info, thanks. Sounds like the update is glitchy (the Field "0" thing) or there was some problem with how his machine loaded the update. If I were that guy, I'd simply start over and attempt to reload the update. Let us know if he responds to your inquiry. Also, if we experience the Field 0 thing when updating could be a warning flag.
  15. First of all, no one is accusing anyone of anything so calm down, I even mentioned how it was appreciated you posted mention of the issue. Just asking that folks provide as much detail as possible about the source and the circumstances of the reported depth loss - you didn't mention Tnet in your OP so no one had any way of knowing where your got your info. Also, no details related to the circumstances of the depth loss you read about were provided. The update supposedly targeted Wet Beach mode. With no mention of modes affected, whether the people reporting it were beach hunting or land hunting, etc. we have no idea what to look out for with respect the potential issues nor can we evaluate the reliability of whoever posted that information. Like I said, posting as much info, facts, data, as possible just helps everyone figure out if the issue has merit. People use this information to decide whether they want to be experimental guinea pigs on a new update or whether they want to sit back and see how it shakes out. If the posts you read had no facts, then that is useful info as well to help people decide how reliable the information is in the posts where you originally got the info. We're all in the same boat, just trying to gather as much factual information as possible, simple as that. When someone just mentions an update is causing loss of depth or sensitivity (or any other signficant performance decrement), it gets folks pretty excited (and not in a good way), so the more info the better. It's not a gotcha or integrity thing.
  16. Appreciate you putting this out there, but since these are serious issues, if true, it would be helpful if you gave a little more detail (or ideally links) as to the origin or nature of these "posts" otherwise this just really results in spreading rumors and hearsay without objective evidence and that just creates confusion and angst amongst Legend users. Saw a similar situation take place with a recent Deus 2 update and the confusion was caused by XP not exercising version control discipline (there were no less than three different update files with different date stamps but they all referred to the same update file version number). Eventually traced the issue to an update that was released and then quickly pulled back by XP without fanfare or comms to the community so users had to do the detective work with screen shots of the installed firmware. Bottom line, the more facts you can provide, especially on the sources of these claims, the less guesswork for everyone else involved. Thanks.
  17. I think a whole horseshoe beats that...just guessing though. 🤔 Glad you're having fun in your introduction to the hobby. Keep digging and honing your skills and you'll ultimately up your treasure to trash ratio. Though many experienced detectorists find common iron items to be somewhat of a nuisance, sometimes you get surprised like the time I dug two horseshoes that were linked together like someone buried them that way on purpose, or the old piece of iron that turned out to be an actual "iron" used by a CW officer in a CW camp. The Legend appears to be a fantastic value, very versatile and capable, and IMO easier to operate and navigate than even the Simplex. Anyway the key to enjoyment of this hobby is having fun. The detector is a tool and Legend should have you covered for awhile. It will be a very difficult detector to outgrow as you progress in the hobby. Now all you need is to accumulate swing hours, dig it all now (treasure and trash) so you learn the "language" of your detector, have a great attitude that includes finding the interesting aspects of even your seemingly junk finds (you seem to have that covered), doing research, and most importantly, getting out there and getting access to promising sites. Move on from Miss "I'm keeping all your finds" and Find the reasonable landowner who will give you access. It's all about location, location, location. Go get those treasures. Believe me, you can definitely beat half a horseshoe and Legend will help you do so.
  18. FWIW - I already linked that thread in my post above...
  19. Different problem on D2…that remedy doesn’t work in the cases I’ve seen or heard about.
  20. That will make two of us. I already have a 280. It’s my detecting go bag, you know, when you just have to “go detecting” at a moment’s notice. 😜
  21. Actually, that’s the 280 backpack, Bob. Cipher posted the 240 rucksack which is smaller and appears to be about $100 less than the 280. PS. The 240 also appears to be unobtainium, at least in the US.
  22. We’ll they probably didn’t originate from XP. Not trying to be a Debbie Downer here because I really want a sniper-like elliptical coil for my D2, but despite suggestions from their customers, XP seems to be reluctant to even provide a D2 compatible variant of the 5x10 HF elliptical coil that already exists for the D1, citing real estate constraints that preclude incorporating a battery and the D2 coil electronics in a coil of that size to keep it Dive rated like the two existing stock coils. Therefore, I find it hard to believe they would consider a smaller 6” round footprint coil and a coil form factor that doesn’t already exist in their combined Deus/ORX/Deus 2 lineup (namely: 11x13”, 11” round, 9” round, and 5x10”). Furthermore, since standalone coils are not yet available for purchase and no one has even seen the already announced D2 variant of the 11x13 coil for purchase even as part of a complete Deus 2 detector package, don’t hold your breath on a sniper-like coil being available any time soon. Again, not trying to rain on the parade, just injecting some unfortunate “XP sourced reality” into these small coil rumor mills. Anyway, glad you are having a smashing success with the D2. The 9” coil, as suggested earlier is a great addition to be considered when they become available for standalone purchase as a compliment to the 11”. Separates well and, though not as ideal as a small elliptical or hockey puck, can still get you into a lot of restricted swing situations that the 11” coil can’t deal with. HH
  23. Dan, Ugh, not good. Sorry you experienced that. Did you attempt to contact XP America’s support service at: Detector Electronics Corp. 23 Turnpike Road Southboro, MA 01772 508-460-6244 They might be able to render assistance over the phone or at least advise on whether cracking the case to disconnect the battery would impact warranty. Since the user manual describes how to disassemble the remote and headphones to access the batteries for DIY replacement and provides an exploded parts assembly diagram, as well (pp. 39 and 45, respectively), I doubt disassembly to facilitate physically disconnecting and reconnecting the battery would necessarily impact the warranty unless the case was improperly reassessembled leaving the electronics vulnerable to water intrusion. But I would ask XP America’s support the question to be on the safe side. XP needs to fix the remote freeze up vulnerability in any event as I have anecdotally heard of at least 4 or 5 occurrences of this issue.
  24. Problem is when this happens, the remote is completely unresponsive, including the power off push button, so you can’t just “power it down”. You have to either let the battery run down with time or physically disconnect the battery. See this post;
  25. No need, necessarily, to hold off. Experiment with it to see what it brings to the table by putting it near your "go to" search program to see how it makes iffy, "dig me", "move on it's definitely junk" target signals in your "go to" program sound. You might then discover the circumstances where it might turn an iffy signal in your "go to" into a definitive "dig me" or "junk" signal. I'm not exactly sure what to do with Relic mode at the moment other than as a possible "anti falsing" program in thick nails.
