  1. I have a site that's another example of EMI reduction by moving from 5kHz to 4kHz. Electric dog fence around the perimeter of a yard. Neither Impact or Equinox can run at 5kHz. Completely unusable. Regardless of frequency shift, noise cancel, or coil size. I can run the Equinox at 4 though if I noise cancel.
  2. Thanks for bringing this up Steve. I enjoy my Equinox and Atrex but it's one reason I keep my Nokta Impact. 4 different REAL all-metal modes, both motion and non-motion.
  3. Phrunt, I also use the Atrex EMI screen before firing up my Equinox 600 or the Impact and indeed watch for a few min before deciding on frequency choice on those machines. Correct Dig. Lowest = 4.4kHz Highest = 18.4kHz
  4. Dig, Yes. It looks like a graphic equalizer. Whatever your current selection is, it shows that in the middle and you can see lower and higher to the left and right. Then, you can scroll through them all using the + and - keys to move left and right. Here's a video Tony did...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UtgvjZyuGYM&ab_channel=tcDetects Yes SMF is almost always noisier than single, but I like being able to shift the SMF while staying in the mode I want when possible. If EMI is too much on all SMF modes then I go single. This shows interference even when you can't audibly hear it.
  5. EMI aside, I always choose SMF because I'm never just hunting for one specific type of target. Same example house in my last post, I can run the Atrex in M2, M3, but mainly M4 next to that house. The other SMF modes have noise. Much better ID at depth and significantly less falsing than single freqs. (Post for another day would be me grousing that all these new detectors can't run concentric coils. I have a 5" cc sniper for the Rutus Atrex and a 7" cc for my Nokta Impact. They can also be a nice advantage in certain situations.)
  6. Auto noise cancel wouldn't let you know whether you should be using one of 10 SMF modes, or whether a single freq. would be best. It would simply freq shift after you made your choice. ie. When detecting next to an old home that has beat up aerial electrical service, I can scroll through EMI preview on all the single freqs as well as the SMF modes, then make the best choice at that moment. There's also silent EMI that shows up. Most guys ignore it but it has more of a negative impact than they realize. Using my Equinox at this location I can only run it at 15kHz with the sensitivity turned waaaay down. It's neutered. The Atrex detector is at another level when dealing with EMI. I just wish it was waterproof and that the color screen didn't wash out so badly in direct sunlight.
  7. The Rutus Atrex EMI preview screen is a game changer. I use it for both the single frequencies (71 of them) as well as which of the 10 different SMF modes to use.
  8. Kruzer was a souped up Racer 2 and the Anfibio was a souped up Impact if I remember correctly.
  9. I like the question/thought process Digalicious. His statement doesn't make sense to me. With my limited knowledge it seems like driving in the fog with your high beams on. There are different types of mineralization though....I guess that could be a factor. Whether mineralized or not, if he can properly ground balance (or even go a pinch negative) to effectively mitigate the dirt, then adjust sensitivity, frequency, and/or coil size to mitigate EMI he should be able to maximize depth. I had a permission with an electric dog fence. The only machine I could run within 10ft of it was my Impact, running at 20kHz (and adjusting the freq offset about every 20ft), using the tiny 5" coil. I was able to pull a couple largies, an 1881 silver candian qtr, and the belt plate in my avatar. Most sites aren't that demanding but environmental issues cause SOME need to tweak. What he's saying defies logic.
  10. Simplex won't do great on salt beaches, or while nugget hunting. I'd agree with Matt and have you look at the Legend.
  11. I have a similar, yet opposite problem. I can hear low tones but not high tones. Adjust the tones and slide the scale up on your machine so you can hear all of the bins. I use DetectorPro Black Widow headphones that were designed for folks with hearing issues. They are fantastic and worth the money.
  12. I still like my Equinox too. These new machines didn't make it obsolete, nor did the Equinox make my other VLF detectors obsolete when it arrived. So many fanboys were wrong about that.
  13. Rutus Atrex is now my main. Still pretty new with it. Minelab Equinox and Nokta Impact are the backups.
  14. A Manticore has the head of a man, body of a lion, and the tail of a scorpion. My bet is they chose this name because the detector blends3 technologies. Multi IQ, FBS, and another tech. Maybe BBS.
  15. I've had a similar model from the same company for about 4yrs. I've got the Nisaku Miyamatou with a wooden handle. It's a fantastic product. I like it more then a lesche.
  16. My new Rutus Atrex is on the way from the UK. I ordered the white 11" DD and the 5" concentric coils. Just need to find a good set of aptx LL bluetooth headphones to use with it.
  17. Nokta (before the Makro merger) without a doubt. The Makro Racer 2 with the 4.5"x5" coil was great in trash, but the Nokta Impact running at 20kHz with the 7.5"x4" coil is a laser in the thickest junk.
  18. Thanks EL NINO77. I'm looking now for an available one at a good price.
  19. Does anyone here have 1st hand information or experience with the Rutus Atrex? I watched some videos on them. No resellers in the US but there are in UK.
  20. Yes. Essentially the pin pointer becomes a tiny coil and uses the detector settings.
  21. Dilek, If NM is able to come out with an inline pin pointer that uses the discrimination settings setup in the control until of the detector I will immediately buy 2 complete detector+pin pointer setups, as will many others. Sunray used to produce that type of unit and was popular with Explorers and ETracs.
  22. I was swinging fast in high grass and smacked a small hidden stump. I was more than a year out of warranty and it was my fault so I didn't contact Nokta.
  23. I still have an Impact and almost exclusively use the 7" concentric and their 7.5"x4" little football coils. I broke the stock coil and replaced it with a 13" Mars Discovery. The concentric is my general use coil for it.
