  1. I would ask some of our British members. The UK seems to have figured out a way to make a law that benefits the government, archaeologists, and detectorists. They all seem pretty happy with it.
  2. That's what I love about this forum. Here we can express our ideas and opinions and have differences of opinions without bashing each other or calling each other names like they do on some other forums. When people discuss ideas openly and respectfully to each other, minds can remain open and listen to each other. Sometimes this can change open minds or we can agree to disagree, and that's okay too. Civility has a home here. It's a rare space... cherish it.
  3. Excellent rig, you can't go wrong with army gear! I love the harness. I might have to add one to my belt so it doesn't fall down all the time. Great idea!
  4. Awesome looking tool, Tom! I made something crude but similar (but near as good) out of a weed puller.
  5. I like that one too. I really like the size for park use, but my wife appropriated it. Mine, uh, I mean hers, is on the top left in my photo. I've got that one too (second from top left in my photo) in camo. I use it beach detecting. I punched a couple of rivets in the top back to clip a shoulder strap on to. It is very sturdy. It works great for me. I did order the new Garret one today that KAC showed us... I told you I had a problem... 🙄
  6. For my detecting, I usually don't use over the ear phones in warm weather, just during the colder months (which can be 5 months in Colorado) so they also double as earmuffs. But while experimenting with the WM08, I thought they might also be useful for searching for deeper targets as well anytime of year. Thanks for all the responses and suggestions.
  7. I love the look of this one, KAC, thanks for sharing! I'm pretty sure I need a new water/beach hunting pouch. 🙂
  8. KAC started a thread to show a new and awesome looking pouch from Garrett. It quickly got hijacked by folks showing their pouches and F350Platinum suggested someone start a new Pouch Comparison thread... well I'm your Huckleberry! Let's see what you got. Pouch preferences preferred. 😎 Here are some of mine... I know... I have a problem... 😆
  9. I like my F-Pulse for depth and my ProFind 35 for nailing tiny targets that the F-Pulse misses, but I'm real curious about the Xpointer Max, so I put it on my Christmas list. If Santa takes pity on me, I'll let you all know my impressions of it and do some comparisons between the three pinpointers I have.
  10. I am also curious if it will have a smaller eliptical like a 10x5" or a 9x4". That could be a match made in detecting heaven.
  11. Half of detecting is the machine. The other half is using your senses. Of course it counts. Nice find! 😎
  12. Congrats on your new detector! Andy's book is great and so are Clive James Clynick's books. One that helped me alot was "Minelab The Equinox Series from Beginner to Advanced". Amazon Link The key to doing well with any detector is to read the manual thoroughly and get out with it as much as you can. The more you use it, the more you will learn how it works and learn to hear what it is telling you. Happy Hunting!
  13. That is much nicer sounding. I'd like to hear the 60 tone mode.
  14. For the water hunters, the IP rating of the Deus 2 and Legend are IP68, however the Legend is only rated at 10 feet (the same as the Equinox) and the Deus 2 is rated at 60 feet. To get an IP68 rating, a device only has to be dustproof and be able to keep water out to a depth of 4.92 feet for 30 minutes. An IP68 ratng does not guarantee a device to be dive worthy. That might be the problem with some Noxes flooding and possibly the Legend following suit as well. An IP68 rated device might be good to 10 feet, but for how long? Is it possible many detectorists stay in water longer than 30 minutes? How long and how deep do detector companies test their machines in fresh water and salt water? The Deus 2, on the other hand, far exceeds the 10 foot rating and directly addresses the pressure problem as well. The Deus 2 is a much higher end machine, IMHO, than the Legend and probably even the Equinox in many respects, and that may be reflected in the substantial price differential. Still, as I look at the Deus 2 as a real contender, I will keep my Nox since I feel real comfortable with it after a few years. Learning a new machine is not a priority for me, so I'll bide my time, saving up all my Zincolns, while waiting for the first round to play out and see what else is coming into the ring. 😎
  15. I think it's safe to say that all of the detector companies that make SMF machines will do well, but none of them are going to take all the sales because people, including detectorists, have different tastes. Some like sweet, some like sour, some like salty, but no one likes kale. 😝 No company, regardless of product hype, product features, or even product performance, will satisfy everyone. Humans are diverse critters and we don't all want the same things, otherwise we'd all drive Jeeps. 😎
  16. We are living in interesting times. While two or three companies have made press releases of their new flagship model detectors, they are in fact playing catch-up to another company's three year old mid-line detector and there have been no direct impartial real world tests comparing their performances in real scenarios yet. The real race has not even started yet as all of the players are not at the gate. Post your bets, folks! 😎
  17. Great find. From the inscription on the back, I'm guessing that Cody had passed away and that was someone's Memorial pendant for him. Cody may have been a pet or a person. Best of luck on your hunt for the owner.
  18. Excellent job on all the cool finds! Thanks for sharing such an awesome place and hunt. 😎
  19. I have to agree, that is the immediate feeling I got with this new release and the feeling I had about the Simplex. I feel they try too hard to get a market share by looking like their competition while only offering minimal perceived benefits. I don't begrudge Nokta their place in the market at all and I hope they come up with a truely innovative detector again like their imaging detector, and I certainly think there is a place for all of their products. But as someone eluded to in a previous thread, there is a reason the H in Hundai looks like the H in Honda. But there are also reasons one is more expensive than the other, many of which are unnoticed on the surface. Once we see the Legend's actual performance in the real world, I may have to eat crow, but with a little ketchup, it's not so bad. 😎
