  1. Now, wouldn't it be nice to find something like this! https://www.thevintagenews.com/2021/02/17/medieval-3/
  2. They've had a bit of time to consider this roll out. Better to trust rather than distrust.
  3. This is a really great paper describing how you can use the latest technology (AI) and algorithms to locate meteorites. Now just imagine what else you can find if you have the time and knowledge. There are a few here on this forum who will be enlightened by this article but certainly not surprised. It is just a matter of time that we process massive amounts of data quickly. https://arxiv.org/pdf/2009.13852.pdf
  4. Thank you Gerry. My first gold detector was a 5000. My first trip to the desert to look for gold with it was in 2010 and it took me about a year to connect with anyone that helped me find my first nugget. Since that time I've bought several of the Minelabs Gerry mentioned and I still have them. I've also found some gold with the CTX 3030 based upon Gold Hound's settings. Then there is the 800 that has also found me some gold. The only detector I've 'skipped' was the GM. I would have to say in Gerry's description he is more concerned with a timeline than he is with a model number line and I think for good reason. New models are standing on the shoulders of previous detectors that Minelab (and others) have made. As Norvic said, "they are the "Microsoft" of Metal Detectors." If I had the time to detect right now I'd be on a pre-order list. Mitchel
  5. Norm said it best. WTG What coil were you using? What was your total? Mitchel
  6. My local jeweler closed and I haven't been taking it with me anywhere to get it checked.
  7. I tire of the mental gymnastics required to stay on this thread. Who wants to have Windows 3.0 again? Maybe 3.1 or 3.2? (You won't be able to watch videos.) You can go onto eBay and buy a lot of old detectors now cheap. You may even pay a little bit more for one that will still find gold like a Gold Bug. Whatever floats your boat. Now I understand where Steve is coming from on this new release. Just enjoy it.
  8. Who would make the tests? Many didn't believe the GPZ depth and still don't. What if it isn't 'better' but just as good. Could Minelab make money for the shareholders on such a product? I think in this case as in many others where Minelab has come out with a new product the Early Adopters will get the easy worms. Those of us who don't bite will still be getting our gold but some with the new technology will be getting more. Put any of us out with JP and we have a 6000 and he has 'old technology' and he is still going to find more gold than us I'd say.
  9. Confidence and skills are wonderful things. Add just a bit of luck and you have some fun! Thanks JP.
  10. Look folks, JP has already told us that each of these machines is different technology. I think they could have named the 6000 the XYZ to avoid any confusion. All detectors have 'blind spots' and we know that from all the detectors we already use. Now that we've taken most of the gold out of well known patches out comes a single machine designed to find what was still unseen. If you were the head of Minelab wouldn't you do the same thing? You are largely competing against yourself in this market. Mitchel
  11. That is a good reminder. I used it as a kid on my nose against the sun ... we have lots of it in use with the 3 month old!
  12. So, your dad hears the problem after the switching? I have a 5000 that I use rarely any more. I know the plane noise and get it less often with my 7000. An intermittent problem on the other hand is hard for a technician to fix. You can't get it to 'act up' on demand. The next time you or your dad get a target you should go over and see if you can find it also. You don't want there to be associated problems with your board or circuits that keep you from gold. A final observation if I might is that you might try to find a new 'box' by itself. I've heard there are going to be many coming back from Africa because of the 6000. A box without a coil or anything else is easy to send and would be cheaper than a fix. As an aside, I just bought a new desk top computer so that I didn't have to buy a new video board to look at Google Earth! That video board upgrade is just not worth the price as I'm also getting Windows 10/1T ... etc. Mitchel
  13. Modded detectors can perform as well as new technology if you are willing to take the risk. Sometimes that 'risk' only needs to buy an aftermarket coil such as the ones for the SDC. How do those 'numbers' stack up against the ratings for the Minelab only products? Location is more important to me now than technology. That being said ... the 6000 may allow for better locations to be detected than the other detectors thus the redundancy is reduced.
  14. Swegin, I'm thinking this is not your first GPX. Did you buy it to fix it and sell it? What do you have now? As Jason said, what gold do you target? Mitchel
  15. How do you sell a redundant product? That is my thought.
  16. This is the title of a book about producing gold in WA. I've just read a review of the book and think the book would be a good read. It appears now because a company is about to begin production. I don't own any Australian gold stocks but maybe I should. https://www.investorideas.com/news/2021/mining/02125Aussie-Gold-Production.asp
  17. Money moves. Just don't get caught in the wrong position in a MLM, Ponzi or market run by manipulation!
  18. Thank you Joe. I hadn't been reading this thread. I'm glad now to see the post and understand what happened. There will still be a few rings waiting for you I suspect. I like your new 'rules' and perhaps you can run a lottery for partners! Any partner of yours should pay the daily expenses and perhaps a training fee. Mitchel
  19. Well done. Detectors only find dust in a closet as Jim Straight would say. Mitchel
