That appears to be fairly solid bedrock, how does that impact hammer do taking it apart? What brand and what price? How long does the battery last per charge? fred

Damn, Paul if you go to Oz for a whole year, no one on this side will have a clue what you are saying... but I know... it'll be right, Mate! fred

Yeah, that is so sad....haha I remember several years ago Jonathan was complaining that he had to dig an hour or so for a one-plus oz nugget... You can do that in OZ. fred

True Value Of A Coin. Whats Your Take?
fredmason replied to Gerry in Idaho's topic in Metal Detecting For Coins & Relics
What a great story. Some one lost it, you found it, shared it with your dad and others and finally returned it to Mrs. Wiltz. You simply cannot get greater value than that for one dollar... fred -

Golden Grams Of Goodness: Nugget Shooting Stories
fredmason replied to Lanny's topic in Detector Prospector Forum
Thanks Lanny!!! That is beautiful country for sure...so is the gold! I went over to Bill's forum to make sure there weren't two Lannys...Excellent resume in the Nubbie section. I thought I had the link but no so...sorry fred -
Oh, I did forget to mention those giant roachs!!! I really, really hate those the most! fred

Whenever God decides, especially if it is dry and the trees are stressed. Now don't be worrying about falling limbs...as Doug constantly told me; it will be right, Mate...no worries Mate! Don't camp under the big trees. Most of the areas I visited with Doug did not have huge trees, especially the Whip Stick area.... fred

Golden Grams Of Goodness: Nugget Shooting Stories
fredmason replied to Lanny's topic in Detector Prospector Forum
Where are the Pictures??? Cost versus benefit , that is the question. When I occasionally watch one of the gold shows I have to wonder...how much did it cost to get that gold? Would they be using that equipment and moving all that dirt if there was no tv show? I really would love to know... Anyway, it appears you are doing very well, Lanny! fred -
Mitchel; take some good safety-glasses or sun-glasses with you...the scrub there can poke you in the eye...even the plants are after you in OZ! fred

To be fair, nugget hunting is WAY different than coin or relic hunting...best of luck RR. fred

D'artagnon Jackson Scores Minelab Find Of The Month Win

Did the best you could with the info you had... BTW Doc, the check is in the mail and thanks! fred -
VERY NICE, Steelphase...there are plenty of brains on this forum! OH, if I only had a brain... Phrunt, comparison is exactly how you prove to yourself if an item is helpful, hindering or neutral... fred

I think that was an excellent analogy, Northeast! fred

Yes, DD has been there but I don't think he travels with the GPZ...maybe he will check in... Mitchel you may want to contact Bughunter and chat...he has been down to Oz more recently than me. fred

Well, that is a hard question, Phrunt! I actually hard the BZ BOOSTER before JP bought the rights to it...nonetheless, Jonathan uses it and definitely understands how to wring the stuffing from his detectors. When I grow up I want to be just like him, but, not quite that big-haha. I like the volume control...when following his direction I can increase the volume without getting raspy, harsh noises. I am very sensitive to noise that does not belong so I do what I can to control it...so far, the answer has been the BZ Booster. I don't know as I have very few brain cells and don't waste them on techno-stuff...I think it just turns the volume up or down like a radio knob... I am not knocking any other enhancer, have not seen or tried the sp01-I am sure it works. I have enough detecting stuff...so, until they make a really awesome detector that walks, talks and digs; I have enough! freddy

This should probably be a separate post... I think the equinox would be an excellent do-anything-detector... I meant down river from jamison creek....there is a bridge to a camp, in the bedrock on the highway 70 side... I also sniped some gold in the river there using a facemask....the sand bar should be good for detecting too. thanks for the invite...I don't get that way much... Antiquities act- read the law and then talk your local FS person. fred

I have always used boosters, starting with Depthmaster headphones....I have had several and like Jonathan Porter's the very best! I have switched to the wm, the Booster and my Sony over the ear-buds...that way I don't broadcast my every target. Of course, I still have the speakers in case I get back to Australia... Thanks for the memo, Jonathan---a little reminder is always good. fred

Mitchel; You might consider renting a 2300 or GPZ and take the 800 for backup and the beach... I always take the control box in my carry-on and put the rest in my suitcase....I also take the owner's manual in my carry-on and put a copy on top of my stuff in the stowed baggage...the regs always say to carry-on any "Sensitive Electronics"... On the other hand you might ask Paul- but- I think he left that part home last year... since you are only flying to Sydney or Melbourne it should be simple... fred

Flowdog... Klunker and others got all the gold...just teasing. If you want to learn to pan very fine gold, go down to Jamison Creek-on the Highway 70 side and get all you want. You won't get rich but it is excellent practice. I never found any nuggets detecting back in 1980-83....but, there were plenty of coins and relics...watch out for the forest serve-less... Best wishes fred

about 200 miles and four hours... You are so right Klunker, I loved living in Portola, had tons of fun but the work was thin to none...still, living there was the best place I ever was... fred
