  1. What a great adventure, Steve!!! I love your description of the traffic "laws"...reminds me of being in Oz. I never got accustomed to being on the wrong side and looking the wrong way first... even walking was a trial for my simple brain. Your advice to "do It" is spot on...you never know when you will wake up too sick or broken to climb that next hill. Wonderful pictures as usual... fred
  2. stop teasing me, Norm...I can't take anymore...VERY PRETTY! fred
  3. read through Steve's detector list and the various posts for what he wants to hunt...plenty of truth and very little BS... fred
  4. great video....sure beats the heck out of my less than a gram bit I found in the whip-stick area.... very nice fred
  5. Well...if you have not found any nuggets you can't know what they sound like. They probably are not the big, loud signals...but, you can't be certain unless you dig them.... If I get in a lot of trash, I walk away unless I have the energy to dig every signal. I certainly do not want to clean out the trash for someone else-dig it all or leave it for another day. I thought this was a large caliber bullet-I could have walked away...one oz nuggie
  6. very nice! Watching tv is usually a waste, but, on Pawn Stars they explained that a US penny is not. Rather it is a cent based on the decimal system...one percent of a dollar...sounds good to me. fred
  7. That is weird, WYO; did you try other tailing piles? There is a possibility that some big iron was buried in that pile... fred
  8. Mitchel...probably what is going on between your ears...not the hearing teasing again! fred
  9. Yes, I am sure an iron of that size would be detected... I should have been more clear-any nugget-hunting machine should find ordinary chrondrites. Irons and stoney-irons should be even easier to detect. fred
  10. I would love to work the east coast after a Hurricane...I often wonder how many emeralds and diamonds are laying around for someone with a sharp eye.... fred
  11. Simon, most or all of the world stopped making coins with silver around 1964....prior to that time 10c,25c, 50 c and dollars were silver ( about 90%). Now they are all junk coins and some are even iron. In the USA the Gov still wastes money making Zinc pennys that cost 1 and 1/2 cents to make...very stupid. All other coins are a copper alloy of some kind. So, when you are detecting silver coins are good...but, your 1 and 2 dollar coins are very nice too- I wish we had them here.
  12. I FOUND A 1/2 DIME IN El Cajon, California several years a go.... fred
  13. Very Nice, Lucky! Your advise is always excellent, on point and too true. I wish I had been there...next time! fred
  14. Most people don't remember wringers/washers, Reg. I got my arm caught is one when I was about 7...thought I was going through before I got it in reverse... it was Not fun fred
  15. Zimbabwe; just the name brings visions to my eyes... Some one alluded to this fact but I will just say it; you can't find it if it isn't there. And; no on ever gets it all. As to your settings, I would start slightly over medium sensitivity and follow Mcclendon's set-up. I would dig every positive signal until I knew what the detector is saying...even questionable signals! Finally, practice, practice, practice and read and reread the directions...carry them with you. fred
  16. Hunting gold is not for the faint of heart...nor for folks that cannot get up and down a 1000 times a day... dig it all fred
  17. Yes, be afraid, very afraid....just teasing! Snakes may not be in their dens in Oct or Nov; most Western Rattlesnakes are very small and very difficult to see. Scorpions are common but mostly semi-harmless, unless you are allergic... Tarantulas are big, harry and harmless...unless you handle them in a wrong manner... Good luck and have fun fred
  18. Thanks for the trip, Steve...I love the photos and the appreciation of the animals and the history. Enjoying all facets of the journey is the way I go when in Australia; And the one and only trip to Moore Creek... very nice gold too fred
  19. Good Job, Mitchel! Gold in Gold Basin has never been easy for me or you. I love the country so I keep going back. Besides I have about given all my GB meteorites away...I need to replenish them. Was Roger there yet? Did you see Shep and crew? fred
  20. no drama...no show for most people. I want to see the balance sheet for all these subsidized mines....minus the free equipment and salaries …. How much would they make or lose? fred
  21. Yes, you could get haunted for years...people can have weird ideas.... fred
  22. Hi Doc; my plans did not work out, so, I have not been prospecting with my GPZ or 800 yet. I have put the new Bungee on the 800 and swung it for a while at the beach and in the Park. I think your new design is super! The clip is much easier to use and the loop at the end is a great idea... If I get out Monday I will get some pic's....otherwise it will be late October or November... I send you a check... thanks fred
  23. Freak...I have vol 7...if that helps... Perhaps you could email or private message JIM and ask what the differences are...he is very friendly and helpful. fred
  24. any dedicated nugget hunting machine should work... Coin hunting machine MIGHT work on larger pieces. fred
  25. oh well, the vesticles probably eliminate it as a meteorite. When you get a chance have someone familiar with meteorites look at it... fred
