  1. I agree, Jeff pretty much nailed it IMO as well. The the strongest signal area of the blade narrows dramatically past a given depth. Minelab does state "strongest signal area" of the coil but only shows the end view which implies along the entire "blade" length. Taken as a side view Jeff's depiction is spot on.
  2. Dave Johnson on search coil field shape http://www.fisherlab.com/hobby/davejohnson/SearchcoilfieldshapeApril2012.pdf note point 2 in his "fictions" re DD coils
  3. Steve I wish ML would stop with the depiction of a blade shape detection pattern. While it works to a given depth we all know on the deepest targets it behaves exactly like a concentric, having a definite sweep spot. It's false hope thinking you have covered an area thoroughly unless you are using a Concentric coil type overlap with a DD coil.
  4. The original Omega 800 fell victim to large silver laying FLAT!. Silver halfs and Dollars had less depth laying flat than tilted in air test. FTP claimed to have lessened this with later models. Did dig a Franklin half at 8" with no problem once and sounded like it was 2" deep. So it all depends. Gold rings on edge are my main concern and the Nox does well on those according to user tests getting up to 2/3 of the distance vs laying flat which is a very good figure for any detector. Tom
  5. Bryan Your report and many others like that have me itching for spring in No. Michigan. Hopefully I have mine by then! Tom
  6. Sparky: slightly unstable but useable, due to reacting to every little bit of metal and minerals in the ground.
  7. She looks thankful that you rescued here from the ground George.
  8. The DD's are nice and there are some great aftermarket coils available, but for fresh water the concentrics have never failed me in the waterproof department and are a bit sharper on small gold. Once you learn to dig the iron foil bounces you are in like Flynn.
  9. Although I have several USB chargers including a dual 2.4 amp I'm running out of space outlet wise both on the surge protector for the computer ect and the spare outlet a few feet away. This looks lie a good option to replace the spare outlet and allow more hookups for USB use. Got a good review stat wise on the wire cutter site USB outlet Note however that it is rated for 15 amp circuits only
  10. The X-Terra 705 will never leave the fold here. For one it is deep in my ground with the proper coil and I have soo many coils for it including a fresh water setup using a coil tek cable extension. Oh yeah and concentric coils! Did ya hear that Minelab?
  11. Nice chunk of silver. That would make any ones day for sure. Speaking of large shallow aluminum being loud, the only silver dollar I have found was at about 3" and on the CZ-5 sounded like a crushed pop can. Gotta dig it to find it! Tom
  12. Neat stuff George. What period/war would those be from? Thanks Tom
  13. Congrats on the IH and thanks for the tip on Field 2 as I have a couple old Depots in the area that have given up coins in the past including a Shield Nickel..
  14. Those could be good settings for an open non polluted field. Recovery 2 will give a nice long smooth tone, bump it up around iron if necessary. I'm basically guessing here since I have not used one yet just offering tips based on what I have seen and read.
  15. How about drilling a vertical hole thru the center of the yoke at the bottom of the rod where the coil attaches.
  16. Blendy bleedy in a heavily polluted site never really worked for me. What you guys are saying has me giddy like a young school girl. LOL
  17. Thanks Skate, will definitely be keying on those chirps in the trash. Tom
  18. Daniel I'm sure you are itching to take her right out to the bullet field to see if there is any advantage in that dirt compared to single Freq.
  19. Nicely written Steve. Even though I decided to go with the 800 the bargain price for the performance you get with the 600 is a big draw. Tom
  20. Beautiful contrast, Love it! I see a dog with a white eye patch "knapping" on his owners bed. Tom
  21. Based on George's observation of them hitting at 19 I'll definitely be dropping the bottom end of T4 down to 18 so IH's come in at the higher pitch. In the end I'll more than likely set up the tone regions to resemble a 3 tone mode which is my preference for old site hunting. Or you could make T4 an old coins region by adjusting it to signal on say 17-24 only,
